06lgtsti
Thank you for visiting the Subaru of America Web site and for your message. Subaru of America does not recommend Amsoil Automatic Transmission Fluid. Our recommendations would be in the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID section of your owner's manual, such as page 11-24 in the 2008 Legacy owner's manual. The recommended fluids are: Genuine Subaru Automatic Transmission Fluid Type-HP, Idemitsu ATF HP, Castrol Transmax J, and Pennzoil ATF-J. Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance. Happy 4th of July! Sincerely, John J. Mergen Subaru of America, Inc. Customer/Dealer Services Department ----------------------------------------------------------- YOUR ORIGINAL MAIL: SOA, I was wondering you opinion on amsoils new formulation for the Legacy GT/5EAT Automatic transmission. I have been in a heated battle with a few friends about the whole subaru atf vs the amsoil atf. Any help on this subject would be greatful. SWP-LegacyGT
Well seriously, this thread is damn near useless. I'll be sticking with Subaru's oil when I get my tranny flushed @ 30k. good god this is a confusing mess.
wukindada
06.... Seriously.....this thread wasn't enough so you had to start a new one????? This is a NEW formula, not even a year old yet. Subaru is still talking about formulas from 2 years ago:rolleyes: Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!
ClimberDHexMods
I don't know where best to post this, but I compared: Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Other_Products/Mobil_1_Synthetic_ATF.aspx# vs Amsoil ATF http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atf.aspx They are almost the same with regards to viscosity and other properties on their respected spec sheets. Mobil 1 is a hair less viscous, which is not a problem since Amsoil ATF runs a hair thick. But you can get Mobil 1 Syn ATF in some local auto parts stores!!! DO NOT CONFUSE MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC ATF WITH MOBIL 1's 3309 ATF!!! One of my clients went ahead and had 8 quarts of Mobil 1 Syn ATF put into his high performance 5EAT with F1, and no problems. I don't see why it would be a problem. If you're curious about whether a different fluid would work, just compare it with the specs of Amsoil ATF and Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. These are far more viscous than most ATFs, which is why most ATFs don't work as a substitute for Subaru HP ATF. AZP Installs
While the initial specs for M1 and the Amsoil may be the same, the long term effects may not be. We have been using the Amsoil ATF in all of our 30k/60k/90k/120k etc services along with replacing the atf filter with a subaru atf filter and have not experienced any bad effects. With that said, when i raced my automatic impreza in both road race sprints and enduros, we used Redline High Temp ATF and it held up w/o issue, even putting almost 50k track miles on it. Later we removed it from the race car and put it in a legacy L where it went another 50k for a total of 200k w/o issue before it was sold. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg Call directly as We carry almost every manufacturer now, so before you buy parts call us.
