Car & Driver 6/07, Demon Tweaks - '06 Forester 2.5XT Limited

My wife's got a 5spd 04 FXT and I've got the advertisement up on the wall in the garage. The FXT used to spank my 02 WRX off the line, in fact, before I got the STi, the wifey called the Forester "The fast car in the garage".

We test drove an 07GT a few days ago and drove our FXT immediately after. The FXT does feel quicker off the line but once rolling the GT was just as fast. The driving experience in the GT was much more refined and MUCH quieter and I think we'll dig the GT just fine. The 4.44 gearing in the 04/05 FXT (and current Sports model) is why it is so fast. I attached the ad for your amusement.

You know what's sad about these specs? The original Forester XT as tested by Car and Driver was reported to have a faster 0-60 (5.3) , better acceleration 0-100 and 0-120, and higher trap speed at 1/4 mile (99). Why SoA detuned this sleeper I'll never understand

Hope this isn't a repost and an acceptable forum. I will scan the article in on monday at work.

Summary:

Car & Driver took a black Forester XT Limited and gave it Toyo T1-R's 225/55-16's, Cobb F&R rsb's, and a V.2 AP.

I went from an 04 FXT to my current 05 OBXT - I miss the quickness of the Forester, but the OBXT is a lot more refined. At the time I was driving about 30k a year (my FXT had 70k on it in a bit over 2 years when I traded it), so I was looking for something more highway friendly. Now that I'm driving about 1/4 of that sometimes I wish I'd kept the FXT :)
