gianspi
Wow. The difference in the skidpad and braking figures are amazing. 12ft better braking and 0.08g skidpad increase. enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.
gianspi
That shows how bad the oem suspension and tires are for performance figures. enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.

vincedog3
Car and Driver is in the habit of doing the 0 to 60 and the rolling start 5 to 60 so maybe the figures get worse a bit. Underdog
The $30,265 was the "modified base price" so this forester must have had some options from the factory. Edited first post with correct price. The Crimson Dynamo
The B4
Subaru dialed back the performance and revised the gearing on the XT in 2006 to improve driveability and fuel economy. Who really needs a 5.3s mini SUV anway? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
VTGT
Subaru dialed back the performance and revised the gearing on the XT in 2006 to improve driveability and fuel economy. Who really needs a 5.3s mini SUV anway? Me I would love to own and 04 or 05 forestor with an sti conversion.
DrCloud
We switched from a first-gen Forester XT ('04) to an 07 OBXTL in March, and the difference is quite remarkable. Despite more power (the nominal 243HP in the OB compared to the 215HP in the 04 FXT), the Forester seemed much faster and it definitely was far quicker, both in terms of power as well as handling. On the other hand, we bought the Outback for long road trips, and it's a much better vehicle for that purpose -- the longer wheelbase has a better ride on the road for long periods, and the seats are more comfortable. But anyone who asks "who needs..." ought to drive an FXT just to see what fun they are. Talk about a sleeper. HPH
sirsimon
A co-worker worked as a Subaru salesperson as recently as a year ago, and he swears the Forester XT was the most fun Subaru to drive.
jalterio
we have a 2004 fxt 5 speed and it is almost too fast:redface: My wife and I are short, but we have no problems getting our 19mo twins into it.. I agree about the refinement and ride though.....
godwhomismike
Subaru dialed back the performance and revised the gearing on the XT in 2006 to improve driveability and fuel economy. I wonder if they brought that performance back with the XT Sports model. Who really needs a 5.3s mini SUV anway? I would be very happy with that. Thank you very much. ./

deimos
It was the 04s (and 05s?) that were the really quick ones, they pulled back on the perf after that. I guess this would be a stage 1 tune they added?
Underdog
Yup... AP/Sways/Tires only... so I guess going by the Cobb lingo this would be "stage 1" The Crimson Dynamo

Underdog
The point of the article (which I forgot again ) is to spend a small amount of money to drastically improve the car. Their goal was to see what gains they could get from spending <$2k on power and handling mods. The Crimson Dynamo
KartRacerBoy
I ran into a guy this past Sunday at an SCCA autox event. Rocky from Chicago who was competing in his wife's Forester XT. He had it lowered with coilovers and Cobb sways and RT615s for tires. No power mods becz its his wife's car and she demanded the 100,000 mile extended warranty. He won his class.
