So I did the front badge with absolutely no problems at all.

I sanded it with 150 (makes taking the paint off easy) then 800 (for a while to mellow the harsh 150) then 2000. I did 2 coats of Black Metallic Paint and it looked beautiful (Pics coming soon)

The back was a different story.

Getting the actual badge off the car was a piece of cake. I used dental floss to cut in as much as a could. I then used a very small flat head screw driver (DO NOT rub against the car) to sneak under and peel the emblem off.

NOW the biggest problem was separating the emblem from the chrome enclosure. After trial and error and basically destroying my badge I found the best was of doing it.

1. Let you badge sit in the sun for about an hour

2. Drill a hole near a side (NOT OVER ANY STARS)

3. Put badge back in the sun for about 20 minutes

4. Get a hair dryer or heat gun (I used hair dryer) and heat that bad boy up until it is almost hot to touch. Keep the dryer moving and flip the badge on occasion.

5. Now with a small screw driver, or key or something push through the hole you drilled slowly but but with force.

6. As soon as the badge pops up stop pushing from the drill hole and either pull the badge off from the front or use floss to peel it out.

I tried drilling through the center and pushing and it failed miserably. The sun alone couldn't heat the badge up enough (80 degree day) and when I trying prying the badge out by using the "cavern" open area where the big star is I wound up ruining the chrome in the star by scratching it.

I had to sand the big star out and it now looks funny all painted black except for the little stars. I think I am going to paint the front all black as well and make a custom chrome vinyl to sit on top. (pics of mistake soon)

EDIT: I tried to dremel the star to not only get all the chrome out but also make it easier to sand...well the dremel basically chipped away the plastic and made it look look like hell. So now I am going to paint the front as stated before. Below are a couple pics of my failure.

Hope that helps people who are novice and lack experience and prevent people from ruining the badge like I did.

Recommendation for all custom badge makers.

What I did to the front of the badge that made it look AMAZING was I sanded the front of the badge with 2000 grit sand paper. This will make the badge look clean but a little cloudy. I then used PlastX Polish which is normally used for headlights on the badge. It cleaned it up real nice. No scratches or anything. It's a nice "final touch" if you will.

+1

if you do it well enough, it's completely transparent. Unfortunately mine is still a little fuzzy around some areas... even though I sanded it as well as I could.

I am going to put a CF background on it and see how that looks...

Does anyone know if you HAVE to use the epoxy resin and sand down to make the CF look good?

Here's a pic of my newly re-modified badge, painted flat black to match the headlights, fog covers, and grill. Dark - If you want silver carbon fiber I would recommend using what I did for the second pic, I got some C/F vinyl at autozone, the part that's sticky is silver instead of black so I just sanded the OEM badge and stuck the vinyl to it, looked pretty good imo (sorry for the sh*tty cell quality on both)

Not bad Doc.

I'm kinda doing a test project... Jason sent me over some CF so I think I'm actually going to take my time and epoxy resin and the whole nine yards.

Will put up pics when done, but probably won't have time to do it for another few weeks.

Hey there guys! I saw that someone had done red badges in the past, but I couldn't see the pics. So I just did mine yesterday, and here is the pics for it. I'm really poor now, as I just bought this car, and I don't really want to do much else to it on the outside except maybe dde's, but do you have any ideas of what I can do to either the inside or the engine? I saw the intercooler mesh cover and the airbox mesh cover that I might try as it looks relatively inexpensive, but other than that I dunno. btw I have a 5EAT. I have already hooked up the backup camera and dvd player to the Nav, and just haven't found anything else. Thanks for the input! :)

Hmmm...installing CS3 right now so I can resize...when I tried to upload it said invalid security token...

Nah, I just used paint. I think the difference in looking at them is a) the back is in the sunlight whereas the front is not, and b) even if the front was in the light it has lips all around it from the hood, bumper and wings keeping light from hitting it at an angle.

Painted mine yesterday, sanded the back with 320 grit then 800 then 2000 to make it nice and smooth. Painted it a Gunmetal I had left over from a RC body I painted a few years ago.

I might redo it with a color that is close to DGM my buddy is getting me for when I paint the inside of my trunk.
