All right, this thread will document the install of my suspension. I will update it as parts come in and are installed. I hope to have everything installed by the end of March. I will be putting on KW Variant 2s, DMS Camber Plates, and SpecB Aluminum Control Arms w/ SuperPro LCA bushings. These will be paired w/ the JDM rear 20mm bar at first, and then I will try out the front and rear WORX Tuning Adjustable Sway Bars w/ MSi Endlinks. I already have the rear sway bar reinforcment kit from WORX installed...

I will also be trying this set-up on R-Compunds at the track on June 2nd and will post more impressions after that. :D

This first post will have the pretty pictures be fore install

First the KWs from Paul, a.k.a. Boostjunkie

Rear Suspension Installation

I haven't seen any good pictures of what is removed to do the rear, so here is one showing everything removed, and one showing where the top of the rear suspension is...

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Suspension/InstallRearSuspensionLocation.jpg

Here is what the rear coil-over looks like with the stock top hat on, and set-up to near max ride height, 1.5" of thread at the bottom, dampening set to 10 from full hard...

And here it is installed :)

Front Suspension Installation

With the DMS Camber Plates, I decided on only modifying Camber for now. There are two setting though, Camber only, or Camber and Caster. The first and second shot are of the actual plate mounted to the car...

Next is a picture of the front coil-over ready to install with the carrier for the DMS Camber Plate on top. It is set to near max height w/ 1.75" of thread at the bottom and dampening set to 8 from full hard...

A picture of the DMS plate installed, set at it's neutral (stock) setting...

And lastly, two shots of the front coil-over installed, one w/o the tire, and one with...

what happend about "building the fastest stock turbo'ed wagon in the country"?

It should feel like "home" for me to drive your car in June.. I'll throw in my 2 cents as well on your review. Do you have for a corner balance and alignment prior to the event? I think you have plenty of time to do the alignment at least (run zero toe after you set your camber to what you want.. Hoosiers like to run with at least -2.5^.. see if you can get as much as you can out of the rear.

We'll have to dial in the shocks and air pressures in the morning and leave it for the rest of the afternoon.I wont have my pyrometer with me, but since I have the same hoosiers as you, I should be able to get the numbers for you to use when that time comes.

ORRRRR,

Since I wasn't able to go to the slopes to day, maybe I sould install everything but the control arms today :D

How hard are they to install? Or do you need to get the bushing pressed in as well.

I am really interested in any NVH issues with the DMS plates. I think I will wait for a track to finally get built next to my house, and the poly inserts.

then you could give us a subjective opinion on whether the control arms are worth the $$$

I was very bummed out because my skiing trip today got cancelled :(

BUT, that meant I had nothing to do. Which means there are new installation pics up top...

I'll post up the before and after pics tomorrow as I want to let it settle :D

My test drive was very short, but overall I am happy. I actually think these deal with small bumps better than the stock set-up. There is a little NVH increase due to the camber plates. The good news is that MSi is sending me urethane rings as soon as they are ready that should cure that. They install between the Camber Plate and the car. I am suprised at how LITTLE NVH was added though. I was expecting worse.

I haven't hit enought corners to describe the handling yet, but body roll is reduced yet the ride is still compliant. Overall, this is an AWESOME set-up that will be great for the daily driver, but still capable at the track :D

Told ya!

Can't wait to hear more impressions about the camber plates and what the increased caster from the bushing does.

increase in caster will make it harder to transitision the car from side to side as lesser caster allows the steering to return to zero easier..

most of the time, you can dial out the camber as you increase the caster since caster actually effects the dynamic camber range as you turn more and more of the wheel.. as you straighten out fo the car, the tire will have a better contact patch.

Right now, I have the camber plates set up for Cmaber only, not camber and caster. I did this for the reason Keefe mentions above. I will be installing the control arms tonight with the superpro bushings. I got the normal ones, not the increased caster versions...

I am going to lower the front about 1/4" more. The camber plates add some height. I (with Pauls help :D) tried to account for that, but I apparently misjudged. The rear is exactly 2 fingers gap right now, and the font is about 2.5-3 fingers. I am simply going to drop it to even the front and rear...

Then I will get pics

I am headed to get my alignment tomorrow. My question is, what should I set the camber to for everyday driving. I will do 0 toe all around. On my other car I run about -1.6 front -1 rear. What do you all think for the LGT? I will also have them measure the different setting on the Camber plate so I know after the "Daily Driver" setting, how much Camber and Toe change as I change positions. This is in preparation for the track day :D

Further Driving comments: I think this setup is truly better than the stock set-up on all bumps. Especially the rear over large bumps. It is stiffer, but not as jarring. Overall it is more planted and is even more fun in the twisties :)

Dive and squat are VERY much reduced. I re-bedded my brake pads and I am tempted to find a parking lot for braking tests. My wife and I had bruises from the seat belts :D

The camber plates do add a little noise, but not the creaking popping type I was worried about. The biggest thing is that I notice the tire noise a little more now. That is good, because the urethane isolators will do a GREAT job of minimizing that, as will sound dampening in the doors and on the firewall :D

Awesome Ted. Glad to hear that the whole setup is working so well for you. Sorry I didn't guess at the front height better. I've never installed the KW with the DMS top hats, so it was only a semi-educated guess on my part. As for the alignment, 1.5* front and 1* rear is just about perfect IMO. Run zero toe up front, and either zero toe or a tiny smidge of toe-in on the rears.
