Subaru needed to continue with the un-limited wagon to keep the costing under the psychological price point of $40k.

Mine was $38.5K back in the day and the $42k Limited was out of the question. Too much more for leather and sunroof, two features I can do without.

His lengthy complaining of the gas mileage is unfortunate as well. He must have a brand new model still breaking in... I beat on my 5MT wagon and still usually stay in the 12's.

The GT's gas mileage comes in right aloing side 6 cylinder 3-Series and also Nissans and Infinitis with 250hp++ V6's as well.

Does he think that because it is a 4-cylinder, he should be getting closer to Civic-like mileage?

interesting, that steering wheel is missing the Mode and Mute buttons yet its clearly an 07 LGT limited based on the SI drive knob.

And how much of that 37K comes from import duties and taxes courtesy of the Canadian Socialist Government?:lol::lol:

Believe it or not 100% of that amount goes to SOC. We have the pleasure of paying 14% tax (at least here in Ontario) on top of that. :icon_roll

I have had some people at SoC admit to me that they are trying to lower the price as they realize how relatively overpriced the cars are now due to the appreciation of the Canadian dollar the last few years, however it is not as easy it one would think.

As for pricing differences, most people conveniently forget that when the Canadian dollar was at it lowest in 99-00, the manufacturers were all subsidizing us. If they had priced their cars equivalent to US prices then, the average car in Canada would have cost at least 3-4K more, Subarus more than that. I don't recall anyone in Canada ranting back then that they wanted to pay the equivalent of US prices. When you multiply that kind of difference per vehicle times the number of vehicles sold, is anyone surprised that SoC is trying to make some of that money back now that times are good? As has been pointed out here as well as elsewhere, frequently there are content differences between US and Canadian models as well. Large corporations which sell complex products such as automobiles which require a significant investment in support through the provision of services and inventory plan revenues and costs over long periods of time or cycles in the market. They don't price based on what the exchange rate is today, they have to take into account what it may be in 5 years time as revenues today will still have to support costs to be incurred in the future in supporting our vehicles.

I am not an employee for SoC but I have been involved in big business for over 25 years and the fact of the matter is, it does cost a lot more to operate in Canada because of higher taxes (and the cost of universal health care) labour costs, lack of economies of scale, etc. Plus, the old axiom rings true, companies will price things at what the market will bear and enough people right now seem to be willing to pay SoC's prices.

^ The cost of healthcare in Canada is carried primarily by individual taxpayers not corporations and is a competitive advantage over US producers who carry the burdon of healthcare on their own.

Seems to me that SoC failed to currency hedge properly. A proper hedging strategy wouldn't have entirely precented this exchange rate problem they're encountering but it would have taken the sting out.

All taxpayers including corporations contribute to cost of carrying the system. Payroll taxes here are not insignificant.

Healthcare is one thing Canada does very, VERY right. I grew up in Buffalo, NY and spent lots of time in the great white north growing up... thought about "jumping ship" once or twice too... couldn't handle GST

HI,

I was over at Otto's today looking at the colours for an upcoming purchase. While I was in their back lot, a Newport Blue LGT was driven in and parked. It had a big "Subaru" banner across the windshield which seemed odd. I talked to the salesman, he didn't know where it came from but eventually suggested it may be a Press car. That's when it dawned on me that I'd seen it before. Same car as from this set of articles.

Here's a pic taken today.

There is no drivers arm rest on the right side between the seats. On a long journey this could become an issue; it certainly makes cruising in the Legacy a little less comfortable.

Arm Rest Extension FTW!

Maybe this is being a little too critical, but no trunk lighting? I’ve driven much less expensive vehicles with at least some type of lighting in the trunk area. As a bonus, the interior light switch is on the center dome and not on the front reading lamps which means you need to climb into the rear seat to change the setting - unless you have really long arms.

There's another dome light in the rear. How did he miss this?

It could be mis-leading. To drivers in front of you it would be a URABUS.

You-Are-A-Bus. Hmm.

wow...I really like that interior with the rosewood accents. I wouldn't have thought I would, but it looks sharp and brightens up the black interior quite well. Add some matching trim to the steering wheel and it's pass for a Lexus.

Is that all of the wood that there is? My car has more than that...if you can call it wood.

There are accents on the door pulls also. The LLB OB's have the wood steering wheel and it most certainly could pass for any luxo. The leather is much nicer this year and the seats are much more comfy too :icon_mrgr

Ok, I see the door now. Nice.

I think that with the black interior a darker wood trim would look nicer, or a marble pattern.

That wood would look better on the lighter interior. I do think that it would be easy to make those parts a dealer installed option.

There are 2 shades of the wood, with the taupe interior getting a lighter version. I've driven a 07 GT with the dark interior and the wood actually looks pretty sharp. Perhaps if it was caught in the the Sun it might be a bit too bright of a red. Looks good most of the time though.

I agree 100%... much better than the flat finish of MY 05/06.
