Sponge
I had an 05 Hemi Grand until I bought the Legacy and it was a great engine...but for off road DCX will need to put a Dana 60 or something similar in the rear because that Hemi offroad would twist those Dana 44 axles like pipe cleaners. Not to mention it would also need a different tranny, front axle, and I am not sure what that transfer case would do? The four door will be in my driveway after the first year of production...I have had many Jeeps purchased in the first year and have learned my lesson. Its wise to wait for the good ol'American made bugs to be worked out.... I have already gotten permission from the President! But then she asked does that mean we can get rid of the CJ-7? legacy_y_tu
Well, here's the response I got from Chrysler regarding the diesel engine. Kind of a cryptic answer and it can be intrepreted in a couple different ways. Dear Brian: Thank you for your email regarding the Jeep Wrangler. We are pleased to read about your interest in the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. At this time, DaimlerChrysler has not released any official information regarding the production of this vehicle with a diesel engine option available for sale in the United States. However, with constantly shifting market trends I would hesitate to discount the possibility of new products on the horizon, specifically designed to suit your needs. Please feel free to check back with us and your local dealership periodically for future updates. These vehicles are not expected to become available until fall of 2006. Therefore, not all production information is available at this time. Please feel free to check back with us periodically for future updates. A new 3.8-liter overhead valve V-6 engine is featured on all 2007 Jeep Wrangler models, replacing the 4.0-liter Power-Tech in-line six engine. With 205 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. of torque, Jeep Wrangler comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission or an available four-speed automatic transmission. The 3.8-liter V-6 engine produces more horsepower and torque than its predecessor. Compared to the 4.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, the 3.8-liter is lighter and shorter, and maintains higher torque at speeds above 3400 rpm, allowing for an expanded operating range. For information specifically on the 2007 Jeep Wrangler, please follow the link provided below: http://www.jeep.com/07wrangler/ To find out more on the 2006 Jeep Wrangler, as well as pricing, incentives, dealer locations, brochure requests, and many more shopping tools, please follow the link below: http://www.jeep.com/wrangler/index.html To match your specific towing needs with the correct Jeep vehicle or to obtain basic towing information, access the Jeep Towing Guide by following the link below: http://www-5.jeep.com/vehsuite/TowingGuide.jsp If you would like me to provide you with the contact information for a dealer, or if you have further questions, please feel free to use the reply link below. legacy_y_tu
Bringing this thread back from the dead. The JK's are starting to hit the streets now. Man, I' m really digging the 4 door . The only big negative I've heard so far is that the new 3.8 seems a bit underpowered. I'm not liking the fact that they put so much plastic in it. I'm not complaiing about the plastic inside either, that's a given these days. But on the outside; the grill is plastic, the forward skid/undertray is plastic, and a shield over the power steering pump is plastic:icon_roll. All this plastic really sucks especially since the price of these rigs is getting up there. Ayway still liking the overall package a lot. Now for some new pics. PGT
I saw a four door hardtop Sahara yesterday. Very nice.
Sponge
Pick up the new JP magazine! http://www.jpmagazine.com/ The editors went with DCX to Africa (those pics from above post) and put the new JK through the paces. Nice looking and appears to be very capable and worth the Jeep badge. The lack of power for the 4door seems to be a legit problem...the four door is the one I am most intrested in too...so I'll wait until a better option comes. HEMI?!? or Diesel. I can't wait to take one out on the trail...I see a four door in my driveway in the not so distant future! My vB Gallery
godwhomismike
What's the deal with the Hemi engine option? I can't find any details off of the Jeep website.
Sponge
They are only offering the V6 currently...which should be plenty for the 2 door It is heavily rumored they will be offering the CRD Diesel that they had in the Liberty this year in it for next year. The new emissions standards for diesels has held it up...everyone is hoping for a HEMI or at least a beefed up 6 cylinder. A Hemi in that light of a truck would be nuts...they may have to beef up the axles and driveshaft more too because a fully locked rig with 330hp would rip a CV driveshaft or 30 spline axles apart. My Hemi Grand Cherokee had a the same basic Dana 44 rear end as this but it had a IFS front suspension so I am not sure if the front end of the JK could handle it... But Jeep's history with the Wrangler the only real thing that changes in the middel of every decade refresh is color options. Only time will tell... legacy_y_tu
Here's another article on the new JK being tested in Africa. http://www.channel4.com/4car/ft/feature/zambia+off-roading/4134/1 On another note the 3.8 sounds like it's going to be dumped in 2010 for a 4.0 L V6. Also there's a rumor that a diesel option will be available in 2008 in the US. I don't believe it's going to be the 2.8 CRD in the Liberty. Sponge
^ Yup it sounds like they won't get the 2.8 past emmissions in about a dozen states... My vB Gallery
godwhomismike
A Hemi in the Rubicon would be extremely tempting - that's for sure.
IwannaSportSedan
The four door sans roof looks kinda like a Land Rover Defender. Not bad. (imagine it geared up like Lara Croft's landie in the 1st Tomb Raider movie...) With folding rear seats, it could actually be somewhat practical. with a good V6, Diesel, or V8 power, even better. Something with some cargo space sometimes, or four seats, other times, and can go *anywhere*. Not that I need an SUV anytime soon, but maybe in 10-15 years, when they are old, a cheap one for utilitarian purposes, it could be cool.
