With the new Toyota FJ on the way, Jeep had to 'bring it' - looks good from where I am (as a former '02 TJ owner). They'll get my money unless the Toyota aftermarket matures quickly.

CN: three motor choices (I-4, V6, Hemi), 2dr, 4dr, and truck bodies planned. 6sp manual, 4 sp auto, electronically operated swaybars, 3pc hardtop, 4 inches wider, 2 inches longer, NAV option, integrated 2" hitch and power windows (doors still removable). Looks like a weener to me. :disco:

they have been puttin 8cyl in wranglers for years (transplants)!! I have seen a million old CJ's with them!!

I wouldnt call it overkill. sometimes you need the extra low range power in a jeep

Thanks PGT for posting this. Oh man this looks sweet. I don't know about the hardtop though. I'm not really diggin' it; look's like there's gonna be lot's of blind spots with it on. Oh well...just one more reason to take it off and leave it off. The interior is getting much more civilized too ( don't know if I like that or not). Part of the appeal of the Wrangler to me is the simplicity of it and lack of dodad's to break.

Former CJ-7 owner here.

Any word on if they're increasing the interior space much? Driving a Wrangler was never very comfortable and the FJ cruiser felt much roomier when sitting in the driver's seat.

yes, I even posted pics and cliff notes for you to that effect.

Note - the TK has a real armrest!! That means shoulder room, thank god.

I love it. The whole thing. I'm actually happy about the hardtop - I had dual tops on mine and it sucked to get a nice day over the winter. With this one, you can choose to remove the forward section for a sunroof and the sides pop off too. Almost like full droptop. I think if I had it to do over again I would order with just the hardtop - the soft top was a PITA and not very useful with dogs (I took my back seat out and had a big cushion back there for them). The hardtop has swing up glass....nice big area for the dogs to get in and out, instead of having to undo the bottom of the plastic rear window on the softop. I'd get the hardtop and get a windblocker and full bikini top for days when I pulled the hardtop off.

Your cliff notes said that it would be longer and wider. Car manufacturers are very good at increasing exterior dimensions without increasing interior space. Hopefully they'll use the extra length so that there is actually room between your legs and the dash if you are tall and sitting in either front seat.

Hot!!!! but i'd still rather own a YJ or TJ. The "lack of ammenities" (as stated be4) is what makes a wrangler a wrangler!! i'm also not a fan of hard tops at all. no tops no doors FTW ALWAYS!

Damn Kenda.....after my own heart.

My plan with mine before I sold it was to pull the carpet out, pull the drain plugs, Line-X the interior surfaces, and just use a full bikini top.

really nice PGT!! why'd ya sell it?!!

they are getting rid of the I6?!?! i feel the need to cry or something. i'm surprised no one has bitched b/c it's getting a 6spd (which im still trying to figure out why?) but the LGT only comes in 5spd.

my buddy has a '98 that we managed to get stuck sideways in his drive way over NYE; had it been any longer (i.e '07 model) i think we would have fell off the mountain trying to get it turned around (which we eventually did)!

I sold it for all the reasons they improved it for the new model. Although I agree power windows are overkill, I'd like a little more shoulder room (guys don't like the touch each other when riding in a car...just thought you should know), a 'safer' on-road ride (I want to decide when to change lanes, not the Jeep), and just a little more room. Me and my fiancee + two labs = camping gear on the hitch rack.

As for the motor....it had it's run. Fuel economy is the problem...it's a 30 yr old design.

As for stuck, can't beat this:

my cousin 'rootin' as they say in hicksville Maryland.

  • 3 months later...
4 door model will not have a removable roof from what we hear (we are a jeep dealer too). I have heard it will be a couple of removable roof panels in the 4 door versions.

Looks like it will be removable and have the same three piece configuration. I didn't like the looks of this new four door version....but the more I look at it the more the ugliness appeals to me....:woowoo: still prefer the two door though! Also heard rumors of the diesel perhaps being available for the US!!
