Heat Shield, Blanket, both, or none

Recommended Posts

I had a Cobb metal heat shield.  It was always coming loose, rattling, and finally broke at the a bracket very similar to this post.  Currently, I have nothing on there. It is a 2005 LGT Wagon and does have aftermarket Grimspeed TMIC.

What is the general consensus on what to use, or not use these days?

I moved away from the shield because mine broke as well. The blanket has a better ability to contain the heat in the turbo and away from the rest of your engine bay.

any recommendations on brand of blanket?

For my JMP VF-52, I have a PTP lava blanket under a stock heat shield, and an STi heat shield (with reflective tape underneath) on top. Has worked great for several years now.

Gold foil under the stock shield on both cars. The wagon also has gold foil under the GS tmic.  The Spec B's GS tmic has the factory heat retardant paint on it.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
