DoctorDaveLGT
I'm guessing he is still making the engine covers as well but not sure if he has any for sale ads currently for them. He just need to make a catalog.

pdXammo
@Madrig, I've been buying a bunch of rando parts that seem coated with CF Is that something you can do too?
Nonamedude
To stick my nose in and also because I'm curious. In most cases, that pretty weave is a top layer and not at all what carbon fiber looks like. You make a mold and fill it with carbon fiber resin similar to fiberglass. Then pull it out and put a nice pretty layer and top and resin over that and everyone loses their mind. That's not the only way to do it but common for mass market. In that theory, sure, it's like a big sheet you'd wrap around something and resin in place. But idk if that's Madrigs process (would love to know) and idk if it's worth his time. I also don't think @ works on here but I could be wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
boxkita
Since Madrig doesn't comment on this thread, I'll tell how I was taught at a custom shop. put the cf in first, then resin, repeating for each layer. Usually 3 layers. put in vacuum bag and suck out the air/excess resin. then put the whole thing in a furnace for a bit. when "cooked", remove from furnace. then remove vacuum bag. then carefully remove cf part from mold. now comes the crappy part. clean up the part by sanding. You haven't lived until you sand cf on a hot humid day. Being careful not to sand through the layers. When done sanding, clearcoat for that "pretty " look. I skipped some steps, but that's how it's done in a custom shop. Build my car Boxkita Track days

madrig
@Madrig, I've been buying a bunch of rando parts that seem coated with CF Is that something you can do too? i do not do lay over , the process to cover a piece with one coat of carbon fiber. let say you want your center console in carbon , you cover it with carbon , coat the carbon many time until is smooth . me i will do a mold of the console then i will build the new piece in the mold and it will be complete carbon . the look final is also very different , cause the vacuum compressing the fiber . so me i i only make parts from the mold i create . GearJamr
How much are the quarters? I'd rather go CF than another steel panel which will just eventually rust out. I'm guessing they are paintable? Not that I don't like the look of CF.....
amm203
+1 for what Gear says. That quarter looks amazing. It would be the answer to my constant battle against the rusting rear quarter on the sedan. Guessing those are an entirely different beast, though.
madrig
they are paintable of course , they also wider than oem . not much ,between 3/4 and 1 inch .
boxkita
they are paintable of course , they also wider than oem . not much ,between 3/4 and 1 inch . so how soon can you start making them and what's your target price? DoctorDaveLGT
so how soon can you start making them and what's your target price? Yes yes. I'd like to be able to budget for the inevitability of wanting wider wheels/tires to fill out the S402 fenders and need to make room to fit the rears.
