Gauging Interest: LED Emblem

Recommended Posts

Gauging Interests

I have successfully improved the JDM version of the Subaru back lite LED emblem. It's light uniformity is elegant and during the day you would never know. My design is also waterproof.

I currently have Red, White and Blue but can also do custom colors.

I also can do front or rear badges for our model.

I'm looking to sell these for $150 which is half the price of JDM and includes a new badge. If you send me your badge I will take $50 off the price.

There is a lot that goes into these and that is why I only have them for certain model cars.

There are custom laser cut acrylic stars that fit inside the stars on the back of the coin. Diffusing film covers the entire back side of the badge. Reflective film inside of the stars. My secret sauce covers a custom made flexible PCB board with LEDS to make it waterproof.

It also comes with the same OEM 3M 5925 double sided adhesive that your factory emblems are attached with.

All of this is needed for the elegant uniformity of this badge.

I have Red, White and Blue pre-made boards but can do custom colors. All of these are assembled by me in my basement by hand.

The connection is a simple 12v positive and negative wire that can be tied into anything. I have my front one tied into my daytime running lights and my rear one will be tied into my brake lights.

If you end up designing a L7 version, let us know. I'm pretty sure a bunch of people around here, me included, would keep you busy for quite some time.

This is literally the design I've had in mind for months, with only two differences: 1) going with the L7 instead of Subaru stars and 2) also lighting up the border of the outside oval. I just couldn't really find anyone that could help me out with it. If you ended up doing this, I'd buy a pair of blue ones right away.

+1 for lighting up the border of the outside oval as well.

Yes I was working with him on those as well but that was more of a edge lite idea. I then turned in this direction after a member sent me her badge that got water damage and i dissected it. Now i have improved the design and made it waterproof.

foxrider was working on some L7 backlit emblems

Yeah that's again bonkerz for the testing. I've still not had a chance to get new materials, it's been caotic at work and there's no free time but winter in around the corner and I'll get some more play time. As for the laser cut emblems they just wouldn't work because the curvature of the bezel. I am hoping we get our forming machine back up and running soon because I have all the measurements I need now and a CAD guy that will model anything for me. Already downloaded a 3D printer file for a stock badge and just haven't got him to swap the logo yet once I get that printed I can make the reverse mould I need to cast a hard mould for the forming machine and then can make a real stock L7 badge.... but gotta have that forming machine that's still setting in the corner of the factory covered in dust. If anyone wanted a flat badge to custom paint and custom mount I can make those all day long. As for edge lit I need "lucite" acrylic and for back lit I need another special type of acrylic that's special for back lit sinage. There's only 1 place I've found to get both and it's only small sheets so it's quite expensive.

As for what you got going on here bonkerz it's fantastic I wanted to try this myself but never had time obviously. A DIY would be nice for us engineering inclined folks.

No one is certain. Best anyone can tell is possibly L for Legacy, 7 for the 7 sister stars of Pleiades, the constellation after which the Subaru emblem is fashioned. Some say it's L for Legacy, flipping another L upside down to make a T for Legacy Turbo.
