****Daily Driver***** 2008 Legacy (Harvest Gold Metallic)

Recommended Posts

Hey folks!

FNG here... I hope this build is well received. Since the last HGM legacy post was closed..... I expect some smoke.

I found a 2008 Subaru Legacy, one owner, 114k, vin matching, clear carfax. COMPLETELY unmolested. Ill admit I'm not a fan of the 5 speed that came with this car. But it's a daily driver so it'll do.

Things on this build that need work:

  1. Car Audio
  2. Tint
  3. Tune Up
  4. Exhaust
  5. Short Shift Mod (saw a post for it)
  6. Wheels & Tires

So far I've only gotten rid of the stock speakers and put in Infinities. Nameless is in my backyard and I'm picking up deletes. I ordered some sound deadening amazon (no name 1/8" foil backing).

I didn't see a sound deadening tutorial on the forums. I figure someone should do it, why not me?

So, many questions......I love getting a new car.

Things to look into:

  • Short Shifter Mod
  • Android Audio double din
  • How well grounding works for the Legacy (inner body ect ect) Audio question
  • ROTA Wheels 18x8-8.5-9? What to expect on fitment
  • Stock Fog Lamp Incerts & Wiring
  • HID's 4.5k (white)

Also, I've been having trouble naming my car.....Help? On the table, ARU, Goldfinger. I dont care for any of them....but then again the car has no personality as of right now. Just potential.

I look forward to your input!

I drive about 80 miles round trip for work. I haven't seen a GT for sale in the Portland, OR Metro area. I have Suzuki Sidekicks and a dodge Durango with a 4.7 Magnum. Nothing i wanted to daily that far. Also, the level of Molestation out here with the PNW is strong....I've seen tons of flood cars or people thinking their subaru is worth 2x KBB. I found a great deal and took it. The 2.5i isn't to make power. But i still like to hear it....

all the sound deading information anyone will need is located here: https://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

they might not have model specific instructions on panel removal, however - that is on here, and the process of correctly applying the material is well covered on that site. I've purchased from Don who runs that site multiple times and have been very satisfied with the quality and performance. I keep my DD cars with quiet exhaust so I'm not fighting the car audio installs I do on them. My "fun" cars get the full exhaust and I dont touch the stereo equipment, lol.

you'll also want to check into some basic suspension stuff and replace bushings, makes the car more fun to drive.

anyway - welcome and look forward to your progress !

Just unbolt the mufflers and start the engine, you may like that sound. Some of us have done muffler deletes on our GT's.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

ROTAs are on my radar as well.

Rotas are pretty cheap and look good. Are you trying to run 18s or 17s. 17s will have cheaper tires.

Here's my biggest decision when it comes to tires. With all my vehicles i liked tires that tuck and fill the wheel well. I figured 18x8's will fit a 235 35-45 r18 and still give me a full appearance. Right now the 17x6.5 or 7. I haven't looked yet on a spec sheet. They could be an inch bigger and still have a minor gap that i can live with. Im also noticing sagging from the rear shocks. While i was under the car they looked ok. But we all know thats not the case. I've read through a few posts where people talked about replacing stock front struts and rear shocks based on how tired they get. Also body bushings and what not. Things to plan for after i buy the rest of my DD mobile list.

Finished Product. I didn't get a chance to drive it yet

But the start up and pull into the driveway was nice. Reminded me of an Escort RS.

I keep telling myself, " There is no way this 5 speed is suppose to feel like this". Then i read the forums and 2nd guess myself. My suzuki sidekick 5 speed is tighter than this and it has a married transfer case.....

Thanks Talespin,

I think that goes with out saying. Im still contemplating this. As much as i like the way 18s and 235 45 r18s look and tuck. The price point on tires are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better at 17's (where im at now) I may just stick with r17 and bump up to 8" wide and get 235 45 r17's.

With 18x8 id go with either 235-40 or 45. Should fill in gap nicely. But id suggest sticking with 17's. If your dailying, I strongly suggest picking up a set of good used rims rather then buying new ones. Check out Naisoc's wheel section as well.
