2016.5 Legacy DIT reveal at NYIAS '15

Recommended Posts

"new 2.0-liter direct injection turbo (DIT) flat-four producing 296hp at 5,600 rpm and 295 lb-ft from 2,000 to 4,800 rpm."

:dm:that engine in a 6th gen GT....I'd be so pissed if that actually came out in the MY16 though since I just got the 3.6 '15...highly unlikely though.

Take a look at a Fusion Titanium or the new Chrysler 200 and it's clear that Subaru is being outclassed in the segment. If Subaru wants the Legacy to appeal to anyone other than old ladies, it needs to do something to get back into the game.

Gotta love comments like that - sales are skyrocketing for Subaru, and have been doing so for quite some time now. The publics reception of the current generation Legacy/Outback has been overwhelmingly positive. The Fusion is a nice car, no doubt, but the new 200, while it's a big improvement over the previous version, handles poorly and its headlights suck, among other things.

Yeah, I don't get it. Look at a new Fusion or 200 and the car has style and sporty character, and an impressive features list, while the Legacy line is an uninspired, boring looking, CVT-only yawn fest.

Even if there is no turbo or manual, why can't Subaru at least make the car look like these photos for 2016????

And then, there is this talk of a 2.0 turbo putting out 250HP in 2017:

The challenge for Subaru is to keep the AWD while at the same time also keep up on the performance segment and still be within the stipulated fuel consumption figures by the authorities.

Just because the offering is right today doesn't mean that it's right tomorrow, and it's a better situation to have a little more demand than what can be produced than the other way around where you will be producing cars with no buyers or lay off people.

I compared the Fusion to Legacy. I chose the Legacy because it was $3k cheaper, better gas mileage, full time AWD, and a much nicer radio for comparative model.;)

Fusion is sharp, but it's a FWD 90% of the time, comparable model at $3k was so-so good looking as compared to the Legacy. You have to step up to Limited Fusion to get similarly equipd radio and the financing was better with Subaru. That $3k and better financing turned out to be $75 cheaper per month which is $4500 in the end. Not accounting for gas mileage.

That boring Legacy CVT has paddle shift.

Not to mention the poor crash test ratings of the Fusion. I have a 3yr old so this plays a factor in purchases.

Fusion

Legacy

Legacy is superior.

Chrysler 200. I'm going to refrain from commenting because I know I'll piss someone off who owns one.:p
