Did you see the actual website has pics of the motor. I only got 500 right now bet they will want more down. There isny any subaru specialists in the area and my friends busy i might have to wait another week till my tax check hits. Dont think il ever see a 97 98 so clean. Plus at 5 k ibcould continue and save as i seen many 02 wrx wagons for 5 to 6500. I think that should just be the way i go. Unless you tell me the wrx from 02 03 were head gasket faliures like the 2.5s. I do know this obs is 1400 above kelly blue book wonder if i could get them to go lower. Found a 98 160 k alot work done with records for 3500 but i cant finacw that ugh if i got an auto id be lisenced in a few days i can't get the manual down

OMG seriously?

If you're worried about reliability, you don't want a turbocar, and especially not a 1st gen WRX! Furthermore, for a new driver, even over age 25, you won't be able to afford the insurance.

I think you mean you don't want a used turbo car. With good maintenance and left all stock a turbo subie can last a very long time as well. But finding a used wrx that hasnt been molested would be the issue.

so the 02 03 wrx blocks are no good in terms of reliability? i thought people were taking the 2.0 head and combin it with some sorta hybrid engine? anyway i didn't go talk to them about this outback sport. my tax check isn't here and im looking for a subaru tech to take it to near by the location or finding one to go with me. all the more while i save. i would love to have that obs but i figure if its not there in a week or two then im bound to find one locally not owned by a dealer in decent care

Go for that 2.2 in the outback sport. My first car was a 1999 Impreza L auto with the EJ22 and the only things I did was timing belt, spark plugs, tranny fluid change, and rear diff fluid change and coolant flush simply as a preventative thought when I bought the car. I bought it with 130k on the clock and drove it bat**** crazy to 144k miles when I sold it for $5500. I bought it for $3k out the door at a dealer as it was the end of the month, it had been on their lot for 7 months and the odometer only had another mile added to it during those 7 months. The 2.2 is probably the most reliable EJ engine I've seen. If you are really looking for cheap, reliable, and easy to work on look at GL, DL, Loyale, any of the late 80's Subarus with an EA series engine. Parts for them are cheap, They are carbureted super simple engines that would be perfect to learn to work on.

Material Tests on Ringland Failure Piston

I should have held off and purchased a wagon instead of the spec.B

You can't learn to drive a 5-speed within a few weeks? I purchased my car with 10 minutes of driving manual experience, actually had to get my best friend to drive it an hour to my house, then I drove for an hour myself, and then drove 45 minutes to school and 45 minutes back that same day. It's not hard to learn, give it a shot.

If that 97 was 3 500 or even 4k nobdealer fees and taxes i woulda got it but 5 k is steep once my tax checks here i might go for it with 1500 down. Coulda had a 98 forb1700 as guy needed cash for rent but yeah. Pretty set on getting a 2.2. I dont know why clucth messes withvme think its don me missing a little of my hip on the left they took a bit to fusebmy femer togher. Finding a 2.2 outback Thats not rusty will be a challenge. I went aheqd and bought a 2.2 block for 100bucks off cl me and buddy are going to wrench into it
