Jazzy,

Just want to confirm something before I order....does this kit include the cable that works with an iPhone 3G?

Also, what is the difference between the one on your site & the $78 Pro Kit on the first page, the PAC cable?

Thanks!

Mark

Yes - the iPod docking cable I sell in the iPod kits is compatible with and will charge the latest iPhone 3G (and AFAIK - the 3GS too).

The $78 Pro Kit on this site corresponds to the $73 Pro kit on my site ($78 w/shipping):

The difference is the iPod kit includes an iPod docking cable instead of a generic RCA to 1/8" stereo patch cable.

Benny - yes - I'm one and the same Jazzy.

The iPod docking cable is compatible with the Touch & should have plenty of length to allow you to install it in either the armrest cubby or the cubby above the radio.

For anyone that's going to be charging their iPod via the car's power system though, I normally recommend also getting a GLI (ground loop interupt) to filter audio noise caused by charging in the car. The Pro iPod kit has the same parts as the kit you linked, plus a ground loop interupt:

Tony,

What are you connecting to the aux-in and how?

Since you ordered the normal Pro kit, I can only assume you're using the headphone output from something? Unfortunatley headphone output voltages are lower than true line level voltages & will be quieter than normal.

There are 3 things you can possibly do:

1) If you have a source that provides a true line level out through some other means (iPod docking cable) - use that.

2) If you have no way to get a true line level output - amplify the signal between the audio source and the aux-in board. You can do this with:

a) A headphone amplifier like one that Boostaroo offers. These sound the best IMO, but they run on batteries that you'll have to replace every month or so.

b) A line level pre-amp like the PAC Turbo 1, Turbo X or JL Audio CL-RLC. I've tried both and personally prefer the PAC Turbo X - it's cheaper and it sounds better (to me) than the JL Audio version. These are hardwired to the car's power supply.

c) also you could try the Ampli-rider. Posts #1595, #1604, #1610, #1638, #1667, in this thread.

ok, its rca to rca. Does that mean the radio needs to come out again? is there a head-phone type jack amplifier I can use?

It looks like Boostaroo now offers a 12V powered version. Theirs uses headphone-jack type connections.

I wrote back in April that I thought I broke my cd player but somehow it fixed itself. I didn't touch it for a few days and when I went to try it again and it worked. No idea what the problem was but now it works perfectly. I couldn't be happier. Thank you

I received my iPod pro kit today, followed the instructions, and am facing this same problem. The CD changer starts up and counts CDs. When I press "LOAD", the changer moves and appears ready to accept a CD. But, when I insert a CD into the slot, the unit never "takes" the CD from me.

My car's no longer under warranty, so having the dealer replace the unit isn't an option. Did anyone else run into this? I've tried removing the iPod kit and have the same issue, so something else is going on. I've double- and triple-checked the connections, everything appears fine.

I don't use the changer anyway, so it's really not the end of the world for me ... except that I really wanna hook up my iPhone!

Any advice appreciated ...

Scratch that. I gave up on a reply here or from the seller (I emailed via the web site separately) and went ahead and reinstalled everything (with the iPod hookup intact, hoping that it would just start working as ctgilbertsson posted previously). Once everything was hooked back up and the dash was back together, the unit accepted the silent CD and all is well.

Great product, would definitely recommend. In all of the trips to/from the car with the head unit, I did manage to forget to install the ground loop suppressor. So, it'll be coming apart one last time to take care of that ... the alternator whine is significant.

The sound is great, though ... I'm rocking Pandora in the car now and it's great!

I took the radio back out to install the noise suppressor and decided to do some digging and figure out why I had the problem with the CD changer initially. As it turns out, the instructions that accompanied my unit weren't exactly correct when it comes to the "testing it out" phase.

The instructions call for reassembling the CD changer into the radio, replacing the controls on the front of the unit and taking it out to the car for testing. The instructions call for plugging in ONLY the white wire harness and testing for proper operation. In my case, this allowed the CD changer to cycle and count CDs when plugged in, but would not allow a CD to be loaded.

I discovered that if I connected the chassis ground wire as well, everything worked fine. The chassis ground wire is a single black wire coming out of the same wire loom as the white wire harness. It simply clips onto a metal tab on the back of the radio. I'm guessing that the motor that loads a CD grounds itself through the radio chassis and wasn't being grounded properly in my case. If you happen to set the radio into the dash in such a way that the chassis is grounded anyway, everything probably works fine. But, I had mine sitting out of the dash far enough that it wasn't grounded at all and that led to my problems.

So, when testing the unit out, make sure you attach this extra wire and you won't end up pulling your hair out trying to figure out how you screwed up this simple installation! :-)

Anyway, hope this helps someone out in the future ... now to order one of those fancy cubby mounts!

I just installed the iPod kit into my '06 OBXT 5MT, and I couldn't be happier. For the last 45k miles, I've kicked myself for buying a leftover '06 instead of the '07 with iPod connectivity. Now the self-flagellation can end! The kit went together very nicely, the instructions were great, and I even tapped into the head unit power supply to charge the iPod while it's connected. I drilled a 1" hole in the base of my center console storage compartment to run the connector, and there is more than enough spare connector wire to make handling the connected iPod easy for any passenger in the car.

GREAT PRODUCT!!!

jazzy,

Just bought an AUX pro kit for my '05 LGT. Thanks man. :) Sorry I didn't buy sooner, I actually forgot all about it. Haven't been on the forums much lately, too busy with work.

I'm not sure what other cables I may need; I don't even use my MP3 player yet (crazy I know) but, I'll figure that out when I try to hook it up. http://www.monoprice.com is great for cable extras. :D

Hey there -

Just upgraded from a 1st gen iPhone to a 3GS, and when I connect the new phone to the Pro Kit I ordered/installed back in 12/07, I get an error saying that the accessory is not compatible and that charging has been disabled. So while I can get sound, I can't charge the phone. My previous phone would say that the accessory wasn't compatible, but would still charge the phone.

Any ideas/workarounds?

Hi all,

just about to buy a 2006 Outback wagon, and was after comfirmation that the Jazzy aux-in kit will work with it. My main concern is it's only a single cd player not the 6-disc changer as the topic title suggests. The model number on the front of the radio/cd player says GX-203KH.

If anyone can give me a definate yes on this i'd appreciate it as I don't want to miss out on the car!

Thanks,

Peter
