  1. Hey there - I installed the original Jazzy Pro Kit about 6 years ago with my original iPhone. The cable has the 30 pin connector to connect to the phone and charges using the "firewire" wiring. When Apple changed over to USB for charging I bought a converter through CableJive that allowed me to listen to and charge my new iPhone in the car. Fast forward a couple of years later and Apple switched to the new Lightning connector, so I had to buy another adapter/converter to the mix. So the current setup is original Jazzy Pro Kit with 30 pin connector plug (Firewire) to CableJive dockStubz+ Charge Converter to Apple Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter. However, over recent months the audio will cut in and out and now so will charging because the connectors don't exactly have a super secure fit. So going over bumps will cause the music to stop or only come out of one speaker or for charging to stop. I suspected it was the CableJive dockStubz+ Charge Converter to blame, so bought a new one, however the issue still persists. It seem the Jazzy cable needs to be bent a certain way near the 30 pin plug for things to work, so it looks like the cable is faulty. While I am not thrilled with the idea of taking apart my dashboard again, I am wondering if I could save time/money by just changing out the original audio/charging cable that came with my Jazzy Pro Kit (30 pin Firewire) with the iPod Lightning Audio/Charge Cable that is listed here: http://www.jazzyengineering.com/product_info.php?products_id=53 Has anyone had success with this? Or would I need to buy the whole Subaru Aux-in Lightning iPod Kit and do the whole install again?
  2. Hey there - Just upgraded from a 1st gen iPhone to a 3GS, and when I connect the new phone to the Pro Kit I ordered/installed back in 12/07, I get an error saying that the accessory is not compatible and that charging has been disabled. So while I can get sound, I can't charge the phone. My previous phone would say that the accessory wasn't compatible, but would still charge the phone. Any ideas/workarounds?
  3. I finally bit the bullet today and tried the install. It was a long day (5 hours or so) but this included soldering the charging wires to the cig lighter and some drilling to get the ipod connector through the back of the compartment above the stereo. As per bizzles80's advice, I took my time and used little sandwich bags along with post-its to keep track of all the screws. I have mixed feelings about the end result. When it works it sounds amazing. 1000 times better than the FM Transmitter I was using. However, the connector that goes into the iPod/iPhone (I'm using both) isn't a strong connection or an exact fit. If I go over a bump or touch the cable the connection will loosen and the sound will only come out of the right channel. I have to fiddle with the connector and/or remove it and plug it back in to get back to left and right channels. This happens more frequently with the iPhone, perhaps because the area surrounding the iPhone's connection is not as wide or flat as the traditional iPod. I'm guessing the iPod touch would have the same issue. So I'm not sure if it's a bum connecting plug or if it's a known limitation. Like I said when it works it sounds amazing. But when the connection loosens and sounds disappears from the left side it gets annoying fast. Other than that, the design of the aux board is phenomenal and the install instructions are very well done. I just wish the ipod connector plug was a little more solid and reliable. Anyone else using the ipod connection plug and having a similar issue?
  4. many thanks for your excellent suggestions and your encouragement I couldn't get to it today due to Radio Shack (2 different stores!) not having the wire taps in stock. I'm hoping to give it a whirl this weekend, weather permitting. thanks again!
  5. hey there. just got my pro kit in the mail today - w00t! I was going to try to do the install today but after reading the instructions I was a bit bewildered how people were knocking this out in under two hours. i'm having a hard time imagining this not being a full weekend project -- provided nothing gets broken/lost during the process. are people being serious when they say they've done the whole thing in a couple of hours? guess i need a little encouragement...
  6. many thanks! looking SO forward to this. can't believe I haven't done it sooner as this FM transmitter is driving me bananas
  7. are there instructions for the Pro Ipod Kit, i.e., where/how to install the GLI and the charger/adaptor cable? The PDF doesn't refer to these. Or are people using a normal ipod charger and connecting the audio via the headphone jack? seems like you'd lose quality. anyways am very interested and would love to know if anyone has any directions on how to wire the GLI and charger. thanks!
  8. Indeed, thankfully I have an old PC at work that I use for testing sites and this has now officially become my AccessPort computer. I thought about trying VirtualPC but quickly got reminded that Macs don't have serial ports (at least those made in the last 7 years or so - other than the Xserve that is).
  9. I'm using the AccessPort with the 5EAT. it kicks MAJOR ass. not sure how to answer your second question though. do you have an AT? if so, who cares what the MT'ers are doing! figured out my poor mpg avg had a lot to do with "city" driving and a very heavy right foot. I've since taken the car on the highway for a couple of long drives and I'm now averaging around 21 mpg. now if only my right foot would behave...
  10. how are you guys figuring out your avg MPG? Based upon the info display I'm averaging 15.9 mpg i could have bought a Hummer...
  11. but doesn't the ECUTek reflash require you to use an ECUtek dealer, i.e., you can't do the reflashing yourself? I think part of the beauty of the AP is that you can hook it up yourself and change maps without having to reflash your ECU or go to a specialized dealer. I've had my AP for less than a week but I am very very impressed by the performance increase. There's always the option of buying the StreetTuner upgrade that allows you to create your own maps. So far I'm definitely impressed with the performance of the AP but like others am really really hoping for an economy map given the LGT is a guzzler and President Bush keeps letting gas prices go up. It would be nice if the AP and StreetTuner maps could become "open source" so that others could develop and share maps (such as an economy map).
  12. thanks for the encouragement! the ECU has been flashed like a mofo. took it for a spin afterwards and DAMN that just might be the best $650 I ever spent. I feel like I'm behind the wheel of a 911! thanks again
  13. thanks rallisport next question... with the AccessPort i just received came a "warning" addendum separate from the manual that in bold underline state the following: Please do not flash the ECU at a location where you cannot leave your car for an extended period of time in the unlikely event there is a problem. after all the excitement of waiting for the AccessPort to arrive, it finally gets here and now i'm not that excited to install it anymore. can someone please quell my anxiety?
  14. just got my AP and am confused by the manual. Step 1 says to make sure ignition is in OFF position, but steps 2 - 6 never say when to turn the ignition ON. Step 6 says to turn car OFF but no previous steps indicate when to turn car ON. I could swear that someone else raised this issue on this forum or over at Cobb's forums but I cannot for the life of me find the thread. can anyone with an AP clarify this? Cobb's phone is busy as usual...
