The power to the docking cable is spliced from the cigarette lighter on the ash tray side. I grounded the docking cable to the chassis on the trim piece screw. The thing is even without the GLI I only get power to the iPod if I connect the docking cable to the patch cable. So somehow the RCA cables are used to complete the circuit. The cable is using the audio ground as a power ground - that's bad - if without the audio ground your iPod won't charge - that means the ground you used on the iPod cable is no good. You need a better ground - I would splice into the ground wire for the cigarette lighter - or use one of the bare metal sides of the radio if you don't want to splice anything. You need a good metal-to-metal contact. tbosubi Posted March 2, 2007 Share Posted March 2, 2007 I decided to go with the cable in the top dash cubby. Seemed to be convenient to a vent-mount, keeps ipod at eye level. Just enough room, if careful, to stow the ipod with belkin cable connected in the cubby (easy if disconnect the cable). Powered from cigarette lighter. But since my phone lives in a glove with a knob that slips into a belt clip, I ditched the big clamp and picked up a little sleeve with an adhesive back -- the kind you stick to your dash -- and stuck it on the platform to act as the receiver for the phone. (Note in the picture on the left, you see the platform -- with white lettering about how to insert & remove from the vent slats -- and the sort of keyhole-shaped receiver stuck onto the right side of it.) When I put the iPod in, I discovered that the belt clip on the back of the glove my iPod lives in (a Marware model) fit the cell phone glove knob receiver thing perfectly. MyNameIsSam Posted March 4, 2007 Share Posted March 4, 2007 I have a 2.5i '06 Legacy and I'm having trouble installing my aux-in board. I have the single CD head unit. I've almost got all the wires in the back of the air conditioning unit disconnected. There is one blue cable that is connected to the Temp. control that is confusing me. It's really hard to access and I don't see any way of disconnected it. There is a white roundish piece of plastic that is connected to the A/C unit that has said blue cable running through it. I know this blue cable is connected to the temp. control because when I turn the temp. knob, said cable moves in and out. Because I can't disconnect this part, I can only take the entire head unit so far out. I'm able to pull the right side of the head unit out much further than the left(obviously, seeing as the cable is on the left). Any single CD head unit owners experience similar difficulties? Sounds like either the loading mechanism gear is jammed from a long screw where it should have a short screw, or the ribbon cable is not fully seated & the CD player isn't getting power... I'll try it again with the faceplate on without the screws holding it up. I've already tried reconnected the ribbon cables and made sure they were snug. Thanks again for your help. I'm going to go back in and make sure all the ribbons are facing the right way and are in the right places. I'm almost positive I had them right before, seeing as I tried reconnecting them multiple times. Edit: No success. When I put it in with Aux-In board, cd will not load. Count the number of pins on the bottom of the board that are soldered on each ribbon cable socket. There should be an empty hole at the end, and 14 soldered pins... In the actual stereo the side of the cable with the wires exposed comes in contact with the side of the port with the wires, so I'm pretty sure they aren't in the wrong way there. Wups - well, yea, that isn't true. The aux-in board has sockets that can go in either way, but the radio does not.
