Akasa
(Easier/Cheaper) The same SOHC 2.5i that Subaru put in the car. (Harder/More Expensive) Turbo powerplant (EJ255/257) If you're talking about swapping something like a cummins diesel or a 2jz, I can't help you there. MrTris
Technically, any EJ-series engine will fit. But you'll need to get the same engine that your car had.

Max Capacity
Click on the Vendor tab on the blue bar up top. Then look for Heuberger or Fredbeans. Contact one of them from a short block. Do you have a local shop that can R&R the engine ? See my click here link in my sig for what I did. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here

OP, yours can be rebuilt, since I'm assuming it just needs new bearings --right -- You spun a rod bearing due to lack of oil? Everything else should clean up just fine and last another 60-100k. Bubbaray
So can I replace the EJ25 engine with a EJ20?
kzr750r1
Sure if you want to re engineer the car. Your best bet is to replace/rebuild the motor that your car was equipped with.
