Merc6 Build Thread

Recommended Posts

Just posting this here for the LL Bean wheel swap when it gets here Wednesday.

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/install-steering-wheel-radio-controls-26232.html?t=26232

Pic for an idea of what it should look like in the car, going to keep the shift buttons instead of the audio swap.

Gloss black rattle can . Have plans to redo them later, I got tired of looking at chipped paint every time I'm near the car.

*edit

actually used 2 cans.

1st can on accident found in the LGT trunk was

Krylon Dual Paint & Primer satin black

The other can I intended to use and found later in the DD was

Krylon Dual Paint & Primer gloss black

Dude...that wheel has WOOD...

Yeah i had no idea what I was getting when I ordered it. I thought it was gonna be fake to match the rest of the limited interior wood, it looks/feels like actual wood. I was going to wrap the other odd pieces radio face, shifter and door handles bubinga or birds eye maple but not sure either would match the wheel.

When I redo the wheels I also plan on going back to red calipers. I originally went black wheels to show off the calipers more standing still and in motion.

I then went to black because of brake dust from the hawks had me cleaning them often.

That's awesome, what did you use? I buffed mine out before but they turned yellow in couple weeks. I've used lens restore kits from Walmart but they don't last either.

McGuire compound and a 10 inch buffer with terry cloth pad. It worked on the mother of my 2 beautiful kids 03 Vue so I said why not. Hers lasted for about 2 months before she traded in. I held it on the headlights and turn sigs for a bit as I slowly moved it. For those who remember Mr Luv, I'm sending them off to him eventually for Lexus projector retro and orange reflector/side marker removal.

That's pretty much what I did, I think a sealer is important to keep results for a longer time.

I need to look into that, would suck to have it come back after a few weeks.

Forgot to come back with this. This was used in multiple threads including the one in this section. I'm gonna still send them off to MrLuv then possibly apply it afterwards.

Turbo also sent off for rebuild process. So close, yet so far away. heads next then the little pieces here and there. STi UP heat shield seems to have broke at the welds.

Flip key mod parts acquired. 3 working keys I may mangle 1 and see if the chip will work.

Took it apart to try and program it via the YouTube video. Didn't work at all. I guess having the speaker deleted so all the chimes are gone didn't make it any better. That Immobilizer chip is easy to take out compared to gutting the 05 original keys.

Those buttons are a bitch to line up. I'll probably get around to cutting the blanks later on. Security light turns on second the keys touch the cylinder.

JmP 11 blade billet wheel VF52 build came back. Kinda inspires me to start painting more stuff and maybe ditch the COBB heat shield for a blanket. I will say having another car makes holding out for more mods worth it. Heads getting redone, fuel pump and injectors should be what's left.

Last set of new parts for a bit. May cut the keys next week depends on how it all goes.

Not bad, I'm already used to it as my Cruze has one. I will say it's slightly bigger than it. I don't put my keys in my pants pocket if that was the initial question. Flip keys will open inside a pants pocket.

Thank you very much for that last sentence saved me money and trouble, I always pocket and them opening all of the time would be annoying.
