  1. QUESTION:

I read somewhere that you can't load maps that other people have created becuase the software they use must be married to your AP.

How do places like PDX and TDC create custom maps/tunes for everyone. How do you load it to your ECU?

I think I'm just missing something here....

    thanks

  2. Yeah I have a buddy who ran tests at various gas stations throughout California. He would always have to check a number of different things including the actual amount of gasoline coming versus the actual amount charged to the customer. It also makes it difficult for tuning if you don't know what gas you are actually getting.

I had a question but I didn't start my own thread. I wondered if any testing had been done with certain gasoline manufacturers. For example if I only use Chevron Gas in California is that better than same brand X gas in Caliofrnia. If so could i then be tuned slightly differently than if I just used any old gas from any station.... are any of them really going to perform different from one another????

Never heard anyone discuss brands of gasoline..only octane rating.

  3. NO.. I don't think he had aftermarket exhaust. It was original look and sound.. in fact the tips were almost black. I wash my tip every day. :)

They are nice and shiny... well they say borla on them too!

Douglas and E. Roseville Parkway is quite a distance between from where I spotted it on the very end of E. Roseville...one street before it dead ends....

  4. OOOHHHH!!!!!!

If there is one in Sacramento please let me know. I live in/near sac and drive around town all the time I could very easily find it if Ihad the phone number or address :)

Probably VERY expensive I would assume.

Interesting that soeone CAN sell 100 octane here but I'v never seen 93 as a standard at ANY gas station.. Thought there was a law that kept hte 93 out... doesn't make sense if they have some that offer 100. Interesting....

So would you mix or does Cobb/TDC have some maps for 100 octane~!!~

  5. I hate all other states an their ability to get 93 Octane gasoline!

What do I have to do? Import my gass in 50 gallon drums from Oregon?

Anyone currently doing this in order to run 93 maps?

If rporter is correct and there is a huge noticeable difference I may start an underground gas import company for all the car enthusiast out here in California.

On a serious note...does anyone have any experience with Octane boosters. Could tha be reliable enough to tune according to octane boosters? (Switch to 93 map for track days etc etc)

Just curious if anyone has tested this out.

  6. SPOTTED TWO TODAY!

One was a dark colored 05-06 LGT sedan on the left shoulder of I-80 near Truxel Road around 8:45 am May 31, 2006. Looks like they were either witness to or involved in an accident.

Also, saw a black 05-06 LGT sedan on East Roseville Parkway in West Roesville. They were traveling at a high rate of speed and turned off into a residential area before I could catch up. :)

  7. OK... "BASE" parameters. So a base map (Cobb Stage 2) will not be changed or effected by a battery unplug... meaning that you will not have to use the AP to set up the ECU every time you have a battery failur. (You will have to load any other maps again.... valet....theft mode....econo mode....

    right?

  8. QUESTION.... Regarding the stock navigation unit... is there a way to allow the navigation unit to run while the vehicle is in motion.

It is a huge pain to have to pull over and completely stop every time I want to use the navigation. My buddies New honda accord does not do that. We often times ride together for business and it woudl be nice if the passenger could input destinations while you drive. This is horrible.

    Thanks

  9. I just hope that I don't have to take mine to dealer for anything ever. I have seperation anxiety when my baby is not under my direct care. So I just hope that I've gotten a reliable car that doesn't need any crappy dealer care. But yes....Unmarrying would be the only way to go if one had to go to dealer I suppose. On Trip A computer I've not reset in let's say 4500 miles and I've averaged roughly 20.1 MPG, that's varied driving. Sometimes I shove pedal through floor and sometimes I drive like a grandma. You must be driving Ms. Daisy if you are gettin' that good of Gas Mileage. In that case you may see 30, but I'm still up on my high horse about sinkin' all my hard earned money into makin' it go faster, ain't no way I'm tryin' to get good gas mileage. I don't care if it's $5.00 a gallon, which at current rate, it may very well be. I'm always gonna be ready for that wimpy 5.0 liter or gay camaro. Or whatever bubba tries to match up his american "muscle" against my quaint little wagon.

Nope I don't drive like Grandma but I do make long business trips on a regular basis. Today for example I used a tank of gas and I acheived 24.6 which has been my average for most driving. Unless I hang out in the city streets all week I'll get 22-25.

I push the pedal to the floor very often! I can't wait till I install my stage 2 supplies. :)

Oh.. and if all I'm going to see is about 2MPG then it ain't worth it. I'll never use the ECONO map. NEVER!

    :icon_bigg

  10. Well I average 24mpg with each tanks and on road trips I get as much as 28. The best way I could see to increase fuel economy is to add a 6th gear that gives us an RPM around 2500. That would be nice.

    Tundwgn,

When you said you go stock when you go to the dealership does that mean you use a "STOCK" RT map or do you unmarry the AP and take it in?

If I ever had a significant problem under warranty I would think of unmarrying the thing because often times the dealerships diagnosis is "REPLACE THE ECU" that would be a bad thing if it was married to the AP.

    So what do you do?

  11. OK GUYS...

Quit getting on the guys case who was asking about economy maps. Ii drive for a living and when I have my SUPER long drive it would be nice to average 30+ miles to the gallon or get another 75-100 miles per tank if possible. I would load up that RT map in a hurry.

I'd also like a good valet map to have pre-loaded and ready to go in case I ever needed to leave my car at a tire shop or dealership for somem sort of service that I wasn't doing myself.

Of course... the firs time you put the economy map on some porsche will drive up on you and want a piece and all you'll be able to say is... "I get better gas mileage than you do." HA HA!!!!

  12. Audis are great cars when they're on the road. I never knew about the problems people had until I had a friend with a nice A4.

Its been in the shop 2 out of the last 4 months. There was some kind of oil pressure problem. It was loosing pressure big time.

Then just recently the clutch/tranny is giving out. We were traveling up to Reno, NV from the Sac valley and he punched it and the revs jumped and the car didn't move. UH OH! He's liking my subaru more and more. Maybe someday he'll make the switch.

The worst thing I've heard was this weeks news. His battery goes out so he replaces it but I guess in his car you need a factory code to get the radio back on. He had it in his email from the last time this happened but his computer crashed. (He's having an unlucky month) so he didn't have the code.

He called the one and only audi shop in the area and they told him to schedule an appointment. He could not convince anyone to give him the code on the phone no matter how long he had been a customer. He told them it was already in his file and that he had the code sent to him a few months back but their only response was "I can set an appointment for you if you'd like" despite his screaming they did nothing. I'm not sure if he ever went in but he's not happy!

    I love subaru!

  13. I am surprised. I thought that was why everyoen coplains about it. It's this huge hook just sitting there and for the taller gusy with the seat all the way back sometimes my foot rests there.... isn't always enough room to leave it on the dead pedal for hours at a time.

Then when you go to quickly move the foot to the break or clutch it is stuck with the pant leg hooked on the hook.

Do you guys roll or PEG your pant lets to avoid this?
