  1. How much rust we talking about? For minor to moderate I'd apply several applications of Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster to all hardware for a few days. Tap the heads a bit with a hammer on anything you can reach, should help crack rust and help the penetrant seep deeper down the threads.
  2. Compared to the overall cost of a tear down and rebuild, those filters and some oil are cheap. Try the cheap and easy, prep and budget for it not working.
  3. Outside of valve cover gaskets and accessory pulley bearing failures, not many common issues with the old 3.0 engine. IF (big if, but it happens) any HG issues crop up, a JDM used engine is cheaper and easier than dealing with their 57 bazillion bolts holding on the timing chain cover, unless you're doing the repair yourself. At your leisure. With the engine on a stand. Modifications are slim with the H6 3.0. Mostly some suspension improvements to firm things up (hit up traildogck here). Ed from XRT tuning can do a bit with them, especially making the 5EAT less indecisive. That said, other than being a premium fuel chugger in city driving, they are very nice engines. Highway MPG is close to the 2.5 NA engine. Approximately same power as a stock 2.5 GT, but an obviously different powerband. All in all, not a sports car but an extremely nice for its' era daily driver.

  5. Not gonna lie, I covet your garage and lift. Working in a carport or driveway with ramps or jack stands only goes so far.
  6. Got 3 in the family fleet at present (2002 H6, 2006 NA, 2006 XT) and two previous out to pasture (1996-totalled, 2003-sold to friend in need). It's not a problem. I can quit whenever I want!
  7. Newbies gonna newb. And by newb I mean not read anything about the forum rules.
  8. Thank you. Looks like I'll just do a resistor mod for the time being until ready for a protune.
  9. I'm getting myself one of these. I'm sure it'd work better if I had air tools, but work with what ya got... https://www.amazon.com/Astro-Pneumatic-Tool-78620-Subaru/dp/B01JBJFK3C
  10. Pardon the thread necromancy, but will the Stage 1 OTS map also delete this CEL?
  11. OEM is always the safest bet. I've used aftermarket (A1 Cardone remanufactured) and the vehicle vibrated badly enough at a stop in Drive that change would rattle in the cup holders. Raxles seems to get good reviews, same as TEQ. I'd be cautious of Autozone/Advance/etc unless you live in a low rust area and don't mind taking one back whenever it needs under their warranty.
  12. Insulting folks is a really good way to get ignored around here. Might I suggest communicating like a civilized adult?
  13. NGK is the OEM supplier, and always a safe bet.
  14. Mental health field. Suicide hotline, hospital placements, arguing with insurance companies to pay for it, and anything else that comes along.
  15. Has anyone yet been able to obtain any data on how much of a change this produces? More air directed towards the intercooler must have some effect, but I'm not sure what to measure if I save up enough pennies for one.

  17. Picked up a used Grimmspeed crank pulley on craigslist. Not the color I was wanting, but for 40% less than a brand new one I can live with it.
  18. I'm just across the border in east TN, that count? About an hour to Asheville for me.
  19. Currently in fleet: 2002 L.L. Bean H6 wagon, 129,000 miles. 2006 2.5i wagon, 93,000 miles. Previous: 20003 Outback wagon, 167,000 miles when sold to a friend last year. 1996 Outback wagon, 115,000 miles when totaled due to head on collision. Future: 2006 XT Ltd
  20. Keeping an eye on this. Would have to repaint it blue to match though.
