  1. The blue is a longer service interval. Green is fine. Zerex Asian green is pretty identical, Peak Asian green also.
  2. Oh yes. It is a lovely ticking time bomb. 121,xxx miles. One owner since new. 100% stock everything, no mods anywhere. Always premium fuel, always synthetic oil every 3000-5000 miles with records. Regular 3rd generation Outback problems: HVAC blend door actuator makes a racket, parking brake boot is torn, center console doesn't latch, rear hatch struts are shot, auto dimming mirror is dead, dash is a bit sticky. And a bazillion small door dings from hospital parking lot daily driver status. Getting used to it right now. Spring/summer will bring a new PCV, inspect/remove banjo bolt filters, cat-less uppipe, "bulletproofing" the TMIC if needed, AOS if needed, fresh ATF-HP and gear oil, and maybe a Cobb AP. Timing belt, valve cover gaskets already done. Trying to maximize reliability. And she needs a name.

  6. I've had mixed results with Nokya bulbs. My H1 low beams in a 2002 Outback didn't last long at all. My 9006 fog lights are 10 years old. Not sure if I'll use them in lows again.
  7. I'd recommend Aisin's kit. Japanese parts and their water pump is OEM style.
  8. As it turned out that V2 was still married to a car that was long gone. Sooo, hard pass there.
  9. Have a well kept bone stock 2006 OBXT 4EAT getting some light refreshing, just under 120,000 miles. Gonna be removing banjo filters, getting a catless uppipe, and bulletproofing the stock TMIC while doing some basic 14 year old car servicing/oil leak fixing/etc. Before I got it it had a full timing belt service, new plugs, and new valve cover gaskets. Still has a few minor leaks and weeps I'm hunting down and needs some fresh ATF, differential fluid, and some suspension TLC. Can I still download the OTS Stage 1 tune from Cobb's website onto an unmarried V2 AP if I just want to get rid of the factory lean tune while I'm getting the OBXT up to date? Yes, I know V2 Cobb support has ended. That said, a new or second hand V3 AP is still a decent chunk of the budget while slowly fixing up a daily driver. And I found a unmarried V2 locally for under $100. Or should I keep saving up for a V3 and running factory tune until then?

  11. Out of curiosity, what are you doing that the OEM size is not up to handling?
  12. My folks have their 06 OBXT purchased new. Bone stock with 115,000 miles on it. I'm likely getting it this year when they get a newer vehicle. Gonna go with a catless uppipe, Cobb AP, and bulletproofing the TMIC. It'll go as my daily driver until further notice.
  13. There is nothing to gain by doing this. Yes, you'll have check engine lights. No you shouldn't do it.
  14. 4EAT called for Dex-III fluid. 5EAT called for ATF-HP fluid. Subaru states the you can use HP where Dex was origionally called for but not the reverse. Look for something that meets the ATF-HP spec.
  15. Very cool, but too rich for my blood on the cost/performance scale.
  16. For my 2006 NA Outback I usually run a Wix/Napa Gold as it is one of the few that meets the OEM bypass spec and has decent specs with its' syn blend filter media. 5-7500 OCI. Or a Fram Ultra for the hard to beat filtering specs and constructing. Run this filter for 1 year/2 5000 OCIs. It could go longer I'd say, but I don't like leaving a single oil filter on for the 2 years it takes that car to hit 15000 miles.
  17. I noticed a vast improvement on our 06 when I changed out the unknown type fluid from the previous owner (dark red, still fine) to the recommended ATF-HP fluid.

  19. If you have a US spec 1999 Legacy Outback with the 2.5 DOHC engine you'll want the TKF-009 kit I think.
  20. It is waaaaaaaaaaaay overdue on that timing belt job. That's a every 105,000 miles OR 105 months, whichever comes first from Subaru. This is an interference engine. Err on the side of caution unless you really wanna deal with valves and pistons having a mosh pit. Replace the belt and all components. The belt is not usually the failure point, it's often an idler that seizes and snaps the belt. Recommend Aisin kit for this job.
