  1. Nope, wasn't me Tuesday in NH. Was at work in downtown Beantown. And Audis are the only cars that have been obnoxious at lights so if one did honk at me, I might have brought out the ol "three heads" look.
  2. GRP sedan on I95 South around 2:30 or so Saturday. NH plates I believe.
  3. I should add that the $7900 doesn't include anything sold yet. Should be getting at least $1500 for the piles of stuff I have in the basement: APV1 with protune map, Crucial UP/shorty DP, OEM struts and springs, OEM intercooler, OEM UP and midpipe, OEM turbo, OEM injectors, OEM TGVs, blahblahblah Still, some gearheads would say $6500 would get you a sweet sorted-out weekend car for racing, or a brand new great motorcycle like the SV650. For me, having a car that I can drive down a dirt access road to a kayak race and blend in with the ton of Subarus at the race on Saturday, and then go to the dragstrip and rip of a 12 second timeslip on Sunday (if the blob behind the wheel is up to it, hehe) is sweet, and well worth $6500 for the coolness factor of it. Another example would be giving a great-aunt a ride to the supermarket and have her not notice any of the mods, but then place in a rallycross in the AWD modified class the next day. Or if you want it in photo format: Do this Saturday http://www.stinkyteapot.com/fastbed.jpg And this on Sunday http://www.stinkyteapot.com/Untitled-12.jpg When I give the above examples to somebody when they question why I spent so much on a wagon, most of them get it.
  4. $7900 over the past three years. Not bad considering when added to the price of the car, there's still nothing within 10K that I would be interested in.
  5. Has to be somebody on here: Regal Blue Pearl 5MT LGT wagon. Black aftermarket wheels, roof racks for skis or snow boards. In the Doyle's parking lot in Jamaica Plain around 11:00ish Sunday morning, 4/6.
  6. Okay, this has to be somebody here... Regal Blue Pearl 5MT LGT wagon. Black aftermarket wheels, roof racks. In the Doyle's parking lot in Jamaica Plain around 11:00ish Sunday morning, 4/6.
  7. Saturday 4/5 around 4:30 or so, I think Spec B on Route 20 in Weston, MA.

  9. Lowered Atlantic blue sedan with some type of exhaust. Spring street in West Roxbury, MA at around 8:30AM. I think I've seen it a few times now the past couple of weeks.
  10. Here's the specific engine thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81542 First off, the suspension and steering. JDM RevA SpecB wagon struts/springs with poly LCA bushings replaced stock bits. Stock, I was tired of the dive and squat even at Stage2 power levels. Was also not happy with the floaty feel/failure of stock suspension to handle small sharp bumps. Also wished I had a little more feel while entering turns. Wanted to keep as close as possible to OEM longevity and ride height. Although some have mentioned the RevAs are too stiff, don't find that to be the case...yet. Driving on the worst local roads in Boston which I think are pretty bad, the car seems better over the broken pavement. Ride is stiff, but there is no jarring hit as small sharp bumps seem to bypass stock suspension. Turn-in is improved, found myself using a little too much steering input at first. Ride height is lowered a touch, but it isn't noticable. Will get some photos later, but so far I am pleased with my suspension choice. Shifter bushings/group N mount As notchy as before, but much less play, making it easier overall to shift. I haven't felt a huge increase in NVH with the group N mount, but I've been paying attention to the other new noises. Power There's more in the other thread, but I wanted a quiet daily driver that didn't have every Audi trying to race me from a light. Everything went on the car smoothly, minus the modification to the AVO FMIC to fit the wrx-style turbo (clocking turbo would have been more work). Replaced provided clamps with higher quality ones as well. Also t-fitting and vac hose from Prosport gauges were replaced with higher quality/larger versions. Bumper beam and fogs are back on car. The setup delivers, very tame around town but hits hard when I want it to. I'll be posting more up a bit later, time to go driving!
  11. I'll have it on the list for tweaks come this summer. We'll see how the new suspension bits handle after a few driving events first and go from there. Same goes for some exhaust work CBE-wise, once I figure out what I want to do. Car should be set by this weekend...
  12. I don't want neutral handling, I wanted the stock understeer with the option to tighten up the line by getting off throttle/power oversteer. Safer for the noob behind the wheel, both on the street and the track, especially with the NE roads I drive on. Maybe down the road I'll step up to sways, but not at this stage. As for coilovers, wanted to keep stock ride height and longevity as close to stock as possible while killing the dive and squat. Going with OEM wagon SpecB struts/springs was the cheapest and matched what I was looking for. Again down the road if I make the car more track-oriented/second vehicle, might step up to some coilovers.
  13. Talked with Bill and Alex in late November in person about the build, running down the complete list of how I drove the car and what I wanted out of it before I started buying parts. I've been harassing them for a couple of years now. Helped immensely, nothing like advice from the front lines combined with what I've learned here, over at NASIOC, and fiddling with car up to this point, along with a handful of driving events. One thing I did cheap out on were the gauges, since if something does go wrong with them, it won't matter as much as say, the exhaust manifold cracking. Also added the ACT clutch kit fairly late in the game. Not doing sway bars. Not doing coilovers, using OEM SpecB wagon JDM takeoffs. Wanted to keep stock ride height, longevity and cornering balance as close to stock as possible while killing the dive and squat. Also have my list of possible problem areas that I'll be watching for. Realize with any major fiddling, issues can crop up. Trying to keep them to minimum through careful part selection, as well as picking parts that fit what I want out of the car at the end of the process. Thinking I've done that, but I really won't know until I've had the car back for a few months. Will certainly post about the good, bad and ugly though. Thanks for the concern! I don't see how people can rush right in with mods... Which track school do you instruct with Jack? The SCDA? Did the novice school with them once at NHIS, it was great! http://www.stinkyteapot.com/Untitled-12.jpg
  14. One part left, the AVO intake. Everything else is in. Going with a clutch kit from the beginning. Went with AVO FMIC. Will update next once the work is done.
  15. That's for the reply infamous1. Majority of folks are giving me similar advice. Thinking the plan will be to keep an eye out for deals on a clutch kit, and get enough Subaru Bucks for a WRX flywheel over the course of the winter months.
  16. So I know bosco has chimed in, but I'm debating clutch/flywheel combos at the moment. Posted a thread about it in the transmission section, http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76663. Just wondering if the OEM combo will hold for a dyno tune and occasional runs up to highway speed without self-destructing. Plan on upgrading (probably ACT kit/wrx flywheel) before summer driving events like track days/drag racing occurs. Worth trying to get a few months out of the stock combo until I really need it? Start slipping right away on the dyno going WOT in third? I've smelled the stink a few times over the past three years, but I haven't had any issues with slipping these past two years at Stage 2 power levels.
  17. Turbo ordered and suspension should be on the way tomorrow. Aiming to be on the road with the new setup by the end of January if all goes as planned. Thanks to all that have given their two cents so far. Getting a better mental picture every day of what parts/setup to go with. With that said more questions will follow over the next 4-6 weeks...
  18. I'm sorry, NGK ILFR7H... thekingofparts has BRK* listed in checkout for both WRX and STI/LGT. Assume since they do have them listed sep., on he plugs page, just a quirk of the shopping card. Again, I meant NGK ILFR7H, as hadvw listed in the NASIOC thread.
  19. Anybody using NGK BKR7EIX? Appears that's what thekingofparts.com is offering for one step colder plugs for the STI/LGT motor...
  20. Bah, no worries. Funny if I decide to go small and get a TMIC now, haha. The CC is gonna get a workout starting tomorrow. Talk about a big holiday statement....phew.
  21. Posted in the cobb FMIC thread, didn't know about it, thanks. Been 20+ days since last update, so perhaps there is some news. I'd really like to have parts going on within 10 weeks, so while the COBB FMIC looks interesting, I don't think it will be ready unfortunately.
  22. If you guys wanna fight about FMICs in my build thread, please keep it concise and with actual useful knowledge please.
  23. Weight and greenhouse were additional factors. I came from a car that weighed 2600 pounds. Every car I test drove felt like a boat, especially the Audi A4. The high sills was also something I didn't like. The Forester was great in giving a huge airy cabin feel with low sills, but the LGT was close enough. BMW 3-series wasn't bad. I also didn't want all of the extra electronic crap on the German vehicles. The Subaru HVAC is enough to drive me crazy. Scary to think that the new STI weighs more than my car. Same goes with the EVO. Traditional manuals are disappearing from the marketplace as well. All the more reason to think I am going to keep the LGT for a very long time. Also comforting knowing that when I do blow the transmission/engine on hopefully a glorious day on the track, there will be plenty of Subaru engine/transmission options to choose from for reasonable cost, considering what it is. Well, might not be reasonable for the DSM or domestic crowd, but compared to the cars in the class, they will be.
