engine rattle at 2500-ish rpm... thoughts?
Shadow_419 replied to DrD123's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
I wouldn't eliminate any possibilities, but start with the more obvious things like loose heat shields first. -
Ej25 doesn't have either of those. Lobes from the cam ride on the buckets to open the valves. Definitely want to double check your clearance when you torque everything back down and you may need to replace buckets to get the right clearance.

Front subframe replacement
Shadow_419 replied to Bobbleton's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
I live in MA and they salt the crap out of the roads. My car has lived in MA it's entire life. The subframe has spots with some surface rust, but no place at all is it rusted through. -
What did you buy for your 5th gen today? - V3

Made my own bracket from a steel tie from home depot. Little bit of primer and rattle can flat black. Not the best picture6 http://i.imgur.com/KLRFEIc.jpg Wired it myself. Just used the relay that came with the horns. Fused 12V from battery, signal from factory horn wire, and a ground for the relay. It's not super neat in a loom but it's not a rats nest either. There are guides on wiring them up. -

I have the sharptones and I definitely dig the sound. It's only been a little less than two years so far but holding up well -
2010 clutch slipping. I need a replacement

10LGT You'll definitely hear more noise from the transmission with the mount and the polyurethane transmission crossmember bushings. It's not obnoxious and the positive engagement feel is worth it imo. I spot your ride from time to time in New Bedford -

Flywheel on 5th gen is single mass anyway so a new flywheel for you. I just had mine resurfaced when I did my clutch. -

I'm running Akebono ceramics in the front. Put those in when I did my front brakes and painted the calipers recently. Very happy with them for daily use. -

Hold the window up/down button until hitting both limits. Once or twice. Should be fine after that. -
Maybe one of the breathers for the valve cover is cracked it looks to be more dirt than oil.

The rebuild of my stocker was about a 10 days door to door but this was around Thanksgiving. Might be a little quicker without the holiday

Sorry to hear about the engine trouble. What exactly happened and have you thought about just going short block vs long block? I used BNR for a stock turbo refresh and wastegate port. Fair price and pretty quick turnaround. New chra, wastegate actuator, and cleaned up and painted exhaust side on my stock turbo.

Those are just universal mufflers with welded on connections I'm guessing? Happen to have the model number by chance? Looks like a center/offset muffler proxs -

How's the sound on those axlebacks? I don't really want to go full exhaust but a little extra growl would be cool as long as it's mellow and not overbearing -
Koni inserts for non-USDM 5th gens
Shadow_419 replied to ivan.ej255's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
The only mounting points are the bolts that connect the strut body to the knuckle. If the jdm use a different knuckle the holes could be in slightly different spots but the strut tube itself shouldn't be any different. We're talking about the inserts I'm assuming
