  1. Ordered a few things to tidy up the OB: Ebay: oem missing rear headrest (always been missing one, but kids were too short to matter for many years. Now they are not. I ordered a set of all three and will pick the best of the lot.) oem new power seat switch (passenger side is out, only goes fwd, ebay $78, dealer $116) Amazon: aftermarket drivers window switches (drivers side window switch is floppy/dead. $115 dealer, $38 after market) aftermarket rear cup holder (kids used it as a step many years ago: *snap* ) Subaru: turbo heat shield (mine was cut with a death wheel to clear VF52 actuator. Who cares? California. And for that never been modified look.) rear spring cargo clip (one snapped, cheap from Subaru though! surprisingly only $10) rear cargo cover handle and hook (stupid plastic hook is $23, but so handy) Also have a 2008 head unit to install. My oem has a short in it or something. It randomly pops at full volume and the whole hvac goes off. A bunch of little project to generate those "i fixed it" endorphins.
  2. Totally forgot to post here that I replaced the starter. Autozone Duralast reman. Why? Randomly the car wouldn't start. Eventually it started happening when the car was hot. The car would start at home, then leave me stuck at the store, or trying to drive home with everyone's fresh hot dinner. It was absolutely maddening for a long while, because I thought it was something wrong with the battery and charging system. I would put my small battery jumper on it, and nothing would happen. I'd fiddle with it, re-read the instructions, let it sit on the battery for longer and finally the gods would smile at me and it would start. Drove me crazy wondering why the jumper didn't work right away. Well, nothing wrong with jumper or electrical... the starter needed to cool off. I guess it was seizing somewhere in there. After walking through the entire starter electrical troubleshooting all that was left was the starter. I wacked it a few times with a hammer and lolwut it started! I kept a long pry bar and hammer in the car, and a good thwak on the starter with the pry bar / hammer combo and she'd be fixed for a few starts. Just long enough for me to get myself in another situation where not starting was a PITA. When it started doing it every time I replaced the starter. Problem solved.

I also picked up a Thule roof box for the Alltrack, but ain't no reason I can't throw it on the OB should the need arise.
  4. The Duralast reman I went with was $139 with the online coupon Autozone had running at the time. Looked a whole lot healthier and cleaner than the one that came out. The brushes are much cheaper for sure, let us know how it goes.
  5. Pretty dang good race. Real shame for the dnfs, but that's to be expected in the early season. The dream would be the big three teams all battling for wins, and I think we'll get that. And a couple surprise podiums when a safety car or weather randomize things.
  6. First Quali in the bag! Oh yes! Super excited for this season! Shake it up, and bring it on! Love that smile on Kmags face too!
  7. Yanked all of this out of the dash and engine bay: wide band, cables for logging, obd2 port extension cables, etc. And passed CA smog test. EVAP was not in readiness state, but the inspector didn't mention it.
  8. Here's a California story: Last March I paid registration on the OB for 2021, but never did the smog test. I still had some shady cables under hood and coming out of the dash for the wideband and AP. I didn't want to fail visual inspection for something dumb like that. I still drove it about once a week to pick up the kids, or maybe to home depot. Fast forward to this month and it dawns on me I haven't gotten a registration renewal reminder. Turns out they won't send me one for 2022 until I complete the smog test and process for 2021. Really? What if it's broke and that's why I never smogged it and I'd like to non op it? Anyways, seems that's how it works now. Can't pay it online for 2022 either, the system spits out an error that the VIN is invalid. I yanked off the shady parts (only cut myself 3x), smogged that shizzle, pdf copied the passed test to the online DMV, and next day they sent me request for the payment for 2022 registration. It was more than last year I think because it was over due already. Moral of the story? Move to Texas? Bonus! Our Integra is in same boat. Paid in 2021, didn't do the smog. The steering rack is blown out (dumps the entire contents of the power steering fluid reservoir on my driveway in 5 seconds flat), and I have been beyond lazy to deal with it. It's due in April for 2022 and the renewal paper work should have shown up by now. Same invalid VIN error online when trying to pay rego for 2022 to avoid late fees. :-D

  10. well played. meanwhile, this was opinionated but worth a chuckle: https://jalopnik.com/formula-ones-2022-liveries-ranked-1848601151 I particularly like the way the Ferrari's paint is slightly flat in the above, really accentuating the shape and curves. They have a beautiful car this year.
  11. LOL. We'll see, right? HAAS has had more dedicated development time for the 2022 car than any other team. Are they the scrappy little david to the proverbial goliaths? Will Mazepin be crashing out from mid field? Is his dad going to continue to fund the team? Does HAAS accept BTC?
  12. I love how she keeps evolving and you are thinking WAY outside the box. Excited to see what is next!
  13. We were on our way back from Bigbear in the rain, and the wipers on my 2018 car started disintegrating right in front of my eyes. I was waiting as long as possible to manually activate them, hoping to make them last, until we were out of the mountain area and could find a auto parts store. Kids literally said "Wow!" when they saw how well new wipers work vs the last hour of crappy visibility. I had no idea the wipers were trashed, bc no reason to drive in the rain until that.
  14. Epic post! I would think one of the advantages to pulling the engine, is less brute strength needed. Being able to wrestle with the trans in a position where you have more leverage, vs bench pressing it up from your back. or try to balance it on a jack. not that i have done it myself on the subie, but thinking of other cars i've changed it on.
  15. Looks like you chose pull the engine. now that you have done it both ways, which is your preferred?
  16. Yeah, I agree. Conservative "track position" vs new tires and attack. Max had 3 DNFs to Lewis' one. One less dnf and the championship was in the bag without the controversial finish. But that's racing, and this season i found myself giddy, laughing out loud, pissed off, and deeply entertained. Plenty happy with this usage of my precious time (this season).
  17. I don't have any advice, but what is hitting the strut, the tire or the wheel? I assume it's the tire hitting the fender. 3mm spacers exist, and are about the max you'd want to go on stock lugs. Maybe that'll solve it? I did 5mm spacers on the rear for awhile on stock lugs, but the next time the wheels came off I didn't bother to put them back on. It was just for more flush fitment, not a necessary spacer.
  18. I do miss the Maldonando jokes. Mazeh-spin is as close as we got right now. I think you know I was comparing Latifi to Glock's slowing stealing away Massa's title?
  19. In the end it was luck, but you make your own luck: Mercedes played it conservative (old tires to keep track position). Typical Mec. Red bull gambled and put on the new tires. Typical Red Bull. The stewards and the track officials were able to clean up the mess just in time to make for a good show, and it is a show after all. The strategy won the championship. Anyone else think of Latifi as the new Timo Glock?
  20. King rear springs? https://get-primitive.com/springs/550-king-springs-2005-2009-outback-standard-height-rear-only.html?search_query=springs&results=11 hrmm... i don't see LGT height King springs with their stiffer rate. I think you're going to find stiffer rear springs with dedicated coil overs. Definitely don't go with Tien H-tech. I had major rear sag with those when loaded up for trips, or even just costco.
  21. OMG that domain name.... so much joy It took me two paces to get it. Australia. Kangaroo. Subaroo.
  22. Link to dual range gearbox? Just curious. Smog was due in March on my OB. I still have stock turbo to install and new PS pump. There's a picture of me in the dictionary next to procrastination. I gets driven on Wednesdays. I have to move it from it's parking spot on Wednesday's for street cleaning, and then it's blocking the driveway, so later I drive it to pick up my kids that day, which makes them happy because they can have a snack in that car, while it's not allowed in my other car. I don't even have a good story about the VW. VW and Evo both need oil changes, so I should get on that.
  23. First off, amazing fitment and determination! My 245s were rubbing even after 2nd pull, so you did some serious work to get those to work. Second: That extra diameter (from 35 to 40) is going to make fitment that much more difficult. Don't do it. You're actually closer to LGT diameter than Outback. I have a LGT ABS/Speedo unit I am not going to use for you to ponder.
  24. It was a great race! Fun result and Bottas was a stormer. Good for him.
