  1. I am still waiting to get the axle specs, if I can even. That we will just have to wait and see.

    Here are the basics.

    Transmission

STI transmission and matching rear r180 differential(you can keep factory r160 but will have to regear it)

STI shifter assembly(this has to be lengthened and twisted a bit to make it work, but it fits)also sti shifter mount(rear)

    STI clutch assembly

    STI slave cyllinder

Reverse and neutral sensors you transfer to STI trans from stock trans

Some kind of DCCD controller. I used DCCD pro and highly recommend it.

Custom rear axles(STI inners Factory outers and a custom shaft)

Custom drive shaft(basically the front section needs to be 2" shorter)

As far as the starter goes: Try yours, if it doesnt work then use STI starter. This seems real hit and miss on wrx swaps. Mine worked, but who knows.

You will need custom engine mounts. Mine work great, but are ugly as sin and I do not want to share the design specs. We really need a professional fabricator to make something worthy of posting here.

    Basically that is it.

There will be a whole lot of frustration for you, but it really is not that bad.

  2. As requested today I went for a run and did a couple videos. The first is just 20 seconds and it is a run up to fourth gear. Sorry for the bad audio, but it will give you an idea of how quick it runs through the gears. The second is just a video of me driving around for a few minutes with the camera on the outside of the car. What can I say, I was feeling artsy. lol

  3. So I finally got around to filling my gas can and bringing home some fresh fuel. Went for the typical couple runs around the block. On my third go around I decided to see whats what. From a rolling start I punched it. There are no words that can describe the change. My car was pretty fast before, but now it is scary fast. You do need to hit 3rd for 60mph but it doesn't matter. It actually just makes it more fun. I shifted easy from 1st to 2nd, but I slammed it into 3rd and the car in turn slammed my ass back into the seat hard as hell. I really cant wait to move and get it registered so that I can take it on some open roads. This transmission will make mountain roads a whole lot more fun.
  4. Well folks it is finally finished. I installed both rear axles today. They went together very smooth and install was a piece of cake. Got in to start it and wouldn't it figure, dead battery. So I put it on a charge for a couple hours. Finally it was time to test it. I got in and fired it up. Whats this, Christmas tree on the dash, well thats new. I tested a few things and it turns out one of the times I pulled the axles I bungled the wire for one of the rear abs sensors. Well at least that is a super easy fix. I ordered a new one that will be here Thursday.

I knew that would not prevent me from driving so I gingerly took it for a test run. I could not go too far because I currently have no registration. Anyway, I ran it around the block several times(my block is about 3 miles). Drives perfect. The STI trans and r180 are a bit noisy until they warm up, but other than that it all went perfect. I did not run it too hard because the gas in there is crappy, but even at 1/2 throttle with basically no boost I can tell it is going to haul butt when I get on it. I cant wait to get some good gas in there and take it for a real spin.

So it is confirmed. The STI 6speed will work for us. Mind you this is no easy swap, but looks like all of my mods worked just as I planned, well almost anyway. Thanks for following.

  5. I imagine. It was kind of a rush at the end, because the hardening place lost the original set and he had to make a new set real fast. I have all the associated axles for templates though. He is real good. All he does is high end driveline stuff for NHRA etc.. If someone needs the specs I am sure I can get them. This has all been a bit discombobulated because of my pending move.
  6. Official update:I know funny right.

Anyway My axles are finished. I will be picking them up next Monday or Tuesday, just depends on when I have the time. So next week I should be able to give you guys a definitive answer on the will this work question.

On a side note I finally got around to moving the air tunnel under the hood for the pw ic. Needed to be moved forwards about an inch. Now the hood will close properly with the tunnel installed.
