  1. My 09 Outback didn't look anything like that at that mounting point. Has your car been in an accident or did someone modify that piece to clear another TMIC?

I did have an issue with the throttle body hose that you mention coming off, although I think it was because I didn't have the hose clamp tight enough or the clamp wasn't completely past the bead.

  2. I went for a half hour drive into the mountains and then for fun took my FLIR One to check the surface temps of the intercooler. I understand that this is not the same as the actual air temp inside the IC but it does give you an idea of the efficiency. Ambient temp is 59 degrees.

  3. Now, FOR THE OBXT GUYS (and Grimmspeed

The TMIC fits. The splitter fits. IMO, the splitter is not perfect for outbacks.

The front mounting point is attached to the engine, and therefore drops the front of the TMIC down towards the ground by approximately 1". The result is that the whole TMIC is tilted forward just a bit. Not a big deal, but the splitter material (the rubber) begins to lose contact with TMIC as you get towards the front of the TMIC. You can see the gap start to form there.

Big deal? Probably not. I think it can be fixed with some foam (or similar material) being stuck to the TMIC itself. I also may try some small spacers in between the splitter and the hood where the front fasteners are installed. I think this should angle the whole splitter similarly to how the TMIC is angled and things should line up.

Grimmspeed, maybe including spacers and new bolts/screws for those mounting points would be the ticket for the OBXT guys :)

What if the front of the TMIC were lifted to match the amount of "lift" on the back?

  4. After watching this I am confident that this won't fit an OBXT in its current state.

The first issue is this CMC and the second is that the rear mounting point for the IC is on the firewall (just above the pitch stop). It would seem that a bracket or spacer would need to be made for the front mounting point to account for the difference between the LGT and OBXT (which may also lift the inter cooler to the same location as an LGT, relative to the splitter). On a side note, it seems odd to have the IC taking the same impacts as the pitch stop (since it connects trans/engine to the firewall)

  5. So - to your point - the OBXT body sits higher (which is where the CMC mounts), while the engine (which is where the GS TMIC attaches) sits lower in the chassis relative to the body, bringing the TMIC closer to impinging the top of the CMC? Knowing GS, they probably took all of this into account.

Let's hope they can post pics of one installed in either an LGT or OBXT soon so we can see for ourselves. Given than OBXT owners are in the minority (when compared to WRX and LGT owners) I sure hope they took it into account.

  6. LGT splitter is coming out at the same time as the intercooler. I'm not sure about the OBXT cause of the hood to engine distance, but since it's larger and not smaller, I surmise that the LGT stuff should work without an issue but with a gap between the IC and the splitter.

Seems like they could show us what it is they are selling before we buy it.

My concern is with the clutch master cylinder clearance on the OBXT.
