I just got my car tuned today and I'm upgrading to a V3 next week. All I need is hardware and software support from Cobb for Flex Fuel.
-
Narrowed it down to two choices,
You do realize that the first option is D-F and you will need JDM headlights, JDM fenders, JDM fender liners, JDM beam/absorber and JDM headlight brackets?
-
That must be a blast - very nice selection of parts!
Does the Company23 EBCS eliminate wastegate flutter like it advertises?
I also had a Grimmspeed with me when I dropped my car and I asked my tuner if he thought it was a gimmick. He thought it really worked so that is why I went ahead with installing it (vs. selling it). I need do more driving before I have an opinion.

At this stage, how would you compare the OBXT's handling to say the WRX or other rides? You've obviously got significant ride height and suspension travel, but you've invested heavily in stiffening up the suspension too and you are riding on some decent all season tires. Very curious
Would really welcome your input on just the overall driving experience from an enthusiast with a history in the WRX.
There is no doubt that the handling is much sharper on my WRX versus my OBXT just given the ride height and tire profile. The stock OBXT handling for me coming from the WRX was recklessly bad. RSB helped a ton but the BTS-5056 made the car way more enjoyable and completely comfortable. The only thing that sucks after that is the steering rack. You don't realize how much turning you are doing until you get an LGT one. With the addition of the 6MT that car is perfectly set up as a DD that is a blast on a mountain road or a 2000 mile road trip.
I just got my car back from GST Motorsports today, after they installed these parts and did a dyno tune.

That looks like pre-facelift to me. On the sides where the headlight meets the fender is straight across for A-C and is more "wavy" on D-F because the edge of the headlight curves up.

I'm definitely interested!

What is the new setup going to be? Lowered OBXT? WRX wagon?
WHAT IS THE WAGON?

I have a V1 kit that I still haven't installed, do you have what is necessary (bracket and filter, I imagine) to convert this to a V2 kit?
-
Did you have to source a different hose to connect to the killerB waterpump housing?
No, I'm using the stock hose with the stock radiator. They had to use studs to install it because the bolts that were included didn't fit. I understand KillerB does include the right hardware now.

I'm a happy new owner of a SpecB 6MT driveline in my Outback XT!
Even better I was able to stay, just barely, under the $3K mark.
$2500 SpecB 6MT, Exedy Clutch with 3K on it, flywheel, clutch slave cylinder, starter, driveshaft, R180, all four axles, trans crossmember, rear diff mount, interior shifter trim, all hardware pulled directly from a totaled 2008 SpecB
$100 COBB Short Throw Shifter
$399.60 Installation of all of the above and replacing the throw out bearing. They also fixed an exhaust leak and tweaked the exhaust to play nice with the R180 and swapped in the SpecB steering rack since mine was leaky and it's a shitty ratio. The reason this is so low is that I also traded all of my 5MT driveline with 114K. I actually negotiated $400 but noticed after he gave me a 40 cent discount.
$2999.60 Total cost with installation of SpecB 6MT

I just got this pic:

Why not contact MachV to see if they still have the mold and if they want to do a limited run?
-
There should not be a difference between yours and the jdm one. You are a closer match to the jdm one then the USDM one. If the damd kit is ver A-C youll be fine.
DAMD kit is for D-F, headlights are a dead give away.
-
If that second pic is your actual car and not a stock picture of a USDM facelifted Legacy it looks like it will be more than just a front bumper/beam. You will also need JDM headlights and mounting brackets, JDM fenders, and JDM fender liners.
-
Yes, and yes.
-
I hate you.
If you are looking for all of the SpecB aluminum bits the same guy is selling all of those for a really good deal. Even shipped it wouldn't be bad.

I almost beat the elusive $3k SpecB 6MT swap barrier!
I went down to the shop today to take care of my bill because he wasn't sure about it yesterday and I also proposed trading all of my old 5MT driveline (since it would just sit around, and probably take a while to part out). The total price for the SpecB driveline (trans, drive shaft, rear diff, all axles, all mounts, all bolts, slave cylinder, new Exedy OEM replacement clutch, flywheel, starter) was $2500. The Cobb short throw was another $100. The install of everything including a new TOB and the steering rack (also taken from the SpecB) was $400 after trading him all of my old crap. So all in all, I'm right at $3k fully installed with a steering rack.
EDIT: Although we agreed on $400, I just noticed that he charged me $399.60 for the installation (and rack) so at $2999.60 I DID beat the elusive $3k SpecB 6MT price fully installed (with the entire SpecB drivetrain and a steering rack).

I'll need to drive your car to convince me and you can drive mine to see if you missed anything by not going with an STI steering rack.
Did you get a short throw shifter installed with the 6mt?
I was thinking the same thing!
The PO owner had a Cobb STS which I also got.
-
Had a chance to drive it yet?
I picked up my car around 3pm today and since I wasn't used to the clutch I accidentally launched it in the rain, setting off the traction control. It is amazing how much better the cars feels and in hindsight how clunky the 5MT felt. Driving on the freeway I also saw increased MPG which is nice for my road trips. I still need to get an alignment on Monday when the pro alignment shop is open, but it is easy to tell the difference between the OBXT and LGT steering rack and I am happy I was able to do it at the same time. I am sure I'll have more to say once I have really put some miles on it.
Cliff notes:
"It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

STI steering rack?
Legacy GT
-
Not yet, it is still at the shop. I had them replace my steering rack while it was apart yesterday, since after replacing all of the axles I should get an alignment anyways.
-
6MT install delayed until Wednesday-Thursday.
-
6MT should be installed early this week. I have no intention of changing my suspension or wheel/tire combination (other than using my 04 BBS's).
The reason that I went with the SpecB 6MT over an STi 6MT is that I didn't want DCCD and I wanted the taller 6th to lower RPMs cruising on road trips. My current transmission and clutch is at 114K and I intend on going Flex Fuel so I had concerns about already needing a clutch while at the same time adding enough power that could stress the transmission. This 6MT had a clutch replacement 3K ago and only has 62K on it.

Partsouq just got restocked with both sedan and wagon visors. I ordered a set of each a couple days ago and they are shipping out today.
I ordered a wagon set yesterday morning and they canceled my order this morning.
