  1. Back when I first got the OZs. I like this shot because it shows A.) the dish on the wheels, B.) another example of wagon>sedan, and a bonus C.) Michelin engineering trailer about to roll out to Sebring that year.
  2. I like the rotors. Similar to what gt cars are running these days.
  3. Before and after grill. I'd originally done the mods several years ago. It was time to sand it all down and refinish it this last spring.
  4. Oil change, car wash, tail pipe elbow grease, interior wipe down. Normal 264k mileage stuff.
  5. Starting this thread because it looks way better in pictures lol. 2005 Legacy GT Limited 5pd wagon. Almost every major mechanical system has had major rebuilds with minor upgrades. Engine: - Rebuilt engine at 203k miles in 2016. - OEM short block, D25 heads, vf52, lots of grimmspeed parts (crank pulley, boost control, intercooler, up pipe, catted down pipe), gates timing kit, jdm tgv things, tuned by Tuning Alliance - q300 cat back - AEM fuel pump, otherwise stock fueling Drivetrain: - transmission rebuilt at 208k miles. Was just getting slightly whiny and piggy bank was empty after above engine build - WRX single mass flywheel and southbend endurance clutch - Random short shifter that honestly isn't that short... - Solid TiC shifter u-joint - Dorman driveshaft - Motul redline in trans and diff - Timken wheel bearings all around - AutoZone reman front axles, original rears Suspension: - KW v2 coilovers - Mevotech aluminum front and JDM rear aluminum pieces - Whiteline adjustable rear links - Whiteline front and rear sway bars - Almost the entire Whiteline poly bushing catalog except - Superpro increased caster and anti lift bushings in front - AVO rear sway bar brackets - Whiteline caster top hats Brakes: - dba t2 slotted rotors - hawk hps 5.0 - oem everything else Steering: - 2015 sti rack - sti solid shaft - Whiteline bushings - Whiteline bumpsteer kit - damd D wheel as soon as I get my hands on the control blanks Exterior: - 08 outback tail lights - BaysonR front lip - DIY gutted and smoothed grill - DIY cleared and blacked oem lights - Subaru rain guards - Random exhaust tips instead of the cheap looking q300 pipe stock - IMSA race track stickers (my personal tribal tats) Interior: - Panda interior with one black 2007 front seat, black center console, and tan everything else. Passenger 2007 seat requires different abs shenanigans and seat belt mounting. - Black front carpeting in the garage. - 2008 whatever the gooder oem radio is in the garage - Various but incomplete pieces for stock aux in jack in garage - Takata recall cracked and gouged dash - STi 5sp shift knob - That little bracket that holds the driver floor mat in place - Sensitouch ® driver window switch that doesn't return to neutral unless you touch it just right - Sluggish/stuck shut oem sunroof Wheels tires: - OEM wheels painted Rust-Oleum white, 225/45/17 Conti extreme contact dws06 - O.Z. Leggera HLT 17x8 +45 offset. Currently awaiting refinishing in Subaru gold - Not sure what tire next. Michelin 225/45 as4s? More contis? Whatever BFG replaces the comp summer with? Future Projects: - Interior. Install random parts as noted - Eventual brembo retrofit. I can lock up tires now, and don't track the car. I don't really need better brakes, it'll be pure bling - Fix broken things I've learned to live with. Like never having used the rear wiper once in 11 years of ownership. - More power. Bigger turbo, more injector, maybe external wastegate, maybe aftermarket inlet tube and maybeee some vent to atmosphere blow off/bypass valve. All the silly noises. - 6 speed. Ideally one of the stronger cases and not the new wrx ones people have recently figured out. I'd like to do a clutch dump just once - 08 front end? Madrig scoop and wing? Respray? Idk by that point I'll have really needed to run out of things other than the car to spend money on. I don't grow tired of driving it (now 264k miles), I don't grow discontent despite it's age, imprefections and generally falling apart as time goes on. The vin sticker says it's a June 2004 build date, meaning in 7 months the 2005 model year car will be every bit of 20 years old. It officially competes in zero sporting sense, so whatever makes me giggle on my way to work is it's main goal. More pics to follow
  6. I haven't looked in a few months, but I think all the cars without controls got the full steering wheel section for the spoke. I think 08s and up can use a wrx piece. But I don't think the 05-07 air bag is compatible with that.
  7. Are you going to be keeping your steering wheel stereo controls? I ask because I picked up a damd wheel that came without the silver switch blanks that I need. I'd be willing to take the damd blanks off your hands if you're keeping your stock controls!
  8. From my first hand experience, Eric's pics on the car are much closer to to what your eye will see. Unless you're color blind, in which case everything else on the car will be gray. And the wheels will be their true color.
  9. Going to have to pass, have fun guys!
  10. Lean toward the gunmetal end. Less blue than gunmetal would have. Almost like a metallic gunship type. It doesn't get super bright in direct light, though it'll appear a little darker in shade. You should still get it, I think it's almost perfect in a sea of te37s and evenly spaced 10 spoke wheels. The center bowl is visible while not exaggerated like the enkei raijins. Spoke spacing is very close Porsche 911 cup wheels. I will say the lip to barrel design is a little clunky, and at 18" it'll seem really spindly without larger brakes. Edit: LOOK WHAT I FOUND With no tire on you can see it's more gray than my brake dusty stock wheel in natural light. With both tires on later that day, the OZ just doesn't have as much surface area to reflect brighter light.
  11. I thought it went the other way - d25 have smaller combustion chambers, so the compression ratio goes up . Either way, yes that's a decent change the tune needs to think about. Nothing that can't be tuned around.
  12. Yes that's the color. I'm not really a fan. It sounds stupid to say, but it's a little more grey than I would really prefer. Something brighter, closer to the silver end of the spectrum would have been nice. I've currently got the wheels off to refinish them in gold. It does look like they're reducing the options available for that wheel. No more 17x8s like I have there, only 18s in grey now.
  13. Congrats! Hopefully you live up to be a better Jeff than the last one... Jk that's a complete joke with no basis in reality. Played the driveshaft swapping game this afternoon after friendsgiving. The replacement Dorman looked dirtier than what came off the car. I don't have high hopes for it. Will test it out tonight... Edit - up to 45ish it was much smoother. I'll always have some level of increased nvh, so the driveshaft just has to fly under the radar a little and not be worse than a full poly suspension. I'll be happy to return the out of balance one and finally put this issue behind me.
  14. It's confirmed, driveshaft store is shipping out cheap dorman units. Apparently they're working on driveshaft with a replaceable center bearing, but zero anticipated production date. They're allowing me to return the garbage they shipped me, but I'd shop elsewhere.
  15. Yeah swapping driveshafts isn't hard for me at least, with a full invidia q300. Cutting up that center piece might take a few more moments. Re: softened KWs - ride is much more muted. Probably still a little firm to most, but softer to my behind. Haven't had a chance to push it under any kind of conditions that would impact the at the limit handling. I don't track or autox, so this is probably the right move for my overall build goal.
  16. I'm going to call them on Monday and see what's up. I hoping their's is still on the way, and this unit that showed up is either a) somehow the first rockauto Dorman (see my driveshaft noise thread) or b) advanced auto customer service went ahead and sent me a replacement even though I only inquired about returning the out of balance one. Anyway, I had an adventure yesterday on the way to the dump. Some krud kutter, dish soap and the pressure washer took care of most of it. I took the opportunity to also clean the other removable panels back there. Since I had those out, I figured it was time to try softening my kw coilovers. I'd installed them and half stiffness and combined with every single bushing being poly, the ride was quite... direct. Not rock hard harsh, but noticable. Backed them down to 25%. Didn't get a chance to try it out, so hopefully there's some improvement.
  17. Been enjoying driving it lately in spite of driveshaft annoyances. Oem piece busted a u-joint and I replaced it with a dorman unit from advanced auto. Part number 936-955. A more quality piece from the driveshaft shop and parts thread above would have taken too long to arrive. Well the Dorman unit had an awful vibration above 32mph. I figured I'd order the driveshaft shop unit, and just return the Dorman to advanced auto. Well the driveshaft shop piece arrived today. Same box. Same Dorman part suffix. Same painted over scrapes. Same paint over unit labels. Same weights, everything. Pretty lol considering their website goes through great lengths to say beware of Chinese parts. At this point I've got nothing but two hours to lose to see if this driveshaft is correctly balanced. At least I enjoy wrenching and my brakes could use a bleeding... Upon closer inspection, both the Dorman unit and the driveshaft shop unit (brand "DuraShaft" ©) were shipped from the exact same warehouse in Reno.
  18. I use kns brakes. They used to support this board but likely aren't active anymore.
  19. That sucks. I've been with Dba t2 and hawk hps 5.0 for several years now with no issues.
  20. I feel like I've seen that before in mine, but that was a few years ago. I didn't do anything specifically to fix it, and it hasn't happened again. Cold and heat functions still operating as expected.
  21. Replaced my transmission fluid. I call this picture, "When you don't have the right tools but you have all the right ingredients"
  22. Started removing the driveshaft. Busted rear u-joint. Front was pretty notchy too.
  23. I also don't feel qualified to vote. I've had kw on my car for about 2 years and 15k miles. I enjoy driving my car, but I also do dumb things like driving in complete silence to listen to the exhaust drone, and with the windows open no matter the temperature. I've not had the car corner balanced, and I haven't adjusted the coilovers for rebound or ride height since I installed them. I definitely have not gone through the steps to get the most use of these parts. So would I vote for these? I honestly don't know. I got them through an industry connection and paid koni shock and springs money for them. I'm fairly close to saying my driving experience would probably be similar with that tried and true strut and spring route. But again, I've done nothing to maximize my experience. Coilovers kind of require that. Otherwise, might as well get konis and springs.
