  1. Hey guys, I want to perform this swap in LGT 05 with AUTO trans. I see there are 2 different STI 04-05 MCs and Boosters; 1 for manual and 1 for auto.

Sounds like a dumb question, but do I need to put the AUTO version only? Looks like it's pretty hard to find them on eBay and brand new, there are pretty expensive...

    thanks!

Yeah, I bought like, the last one, apparently. Went looking for them shortly after mine arrived, to send a link to a friend and there were none to be found.

    Check valve shouldn't make a difference, AT/MT.

  2. It doesn't look to an ALK, just a pillow ball style bushing replacement. They don't have a Legacy specific piece, but this Impreza GC chassis one is likely the same.

    These with pillowball

EDIT: Actually they do have 2 different ones available for the BD/BG chassis Legacy, the one I linked above, and this one with hard rubber instead of pillowball.

These with hard rubber. This looks like what you have.

Technically his chassis is BJ, if it makes a difference, though, I don't think it does for those parts. .

  3. Y'all wanna hit up NAPA, they've got a little multicolored pack of small zip ties that come in like, black, pink/red, green, yellow, blue, too-- great way to accessorize, and choose bright colors so that you can easily see if a zip tie has come loose, meaning a vac line has popped, which can aid you in troubleshooting in the future-
  4. I am getting ready to purchase a BNR 16G and oil supply lines from Infamous for my 05OBXT 5EAT. I have 110K miles on the stock turbo, which has never failed. Can anyone suggest a good Subaru mechanic in South Florida to do the work? I am in West Palm. Will travel. Dealer is my only known option.

You'll probably end up doing it yourself. Dealers won't install non-OEM parts, nor will they install parts you bring them.

  5. It's only a guide. Heat expands the pistons, not boost. Question is not so much how high are you going to run boost, but how long are you going to hold it there. Most street-driven cars spend very little time in boost. I would say if you're doing normal street duty, with shorter periods at high boost, you can aim at the tighter end of the clearance range. If you're going to do track days, go the looser end.

Does it make a difference if the car is regularly driven uphill at speed? What constitutes "very little" time in/on boost? 30 second sprints? 1minute?

  6. Generally agree with your comments, but at least for '05, this is wrong. My '05 will happily bounce off the rev limiter in any gear as long as I like in manual mode (well, I know for sure at least 1st/2nd/3rd - have never had it near redline in 4th/5th). I think you actually have it reversed - I seem to recall hearing that '07+ will upshift for you (and do rev matching on downshift?).

I may have that info backward. Thanks for the correction.
