  1. Spotted:

Partially debadged (GT remained) Atlantic Blue (? I think) 4th Gen with aftermarket exhaust in Davis Sq about an hour ago... you were driving with your lady... gave you a thumbs up, got a wave in return.

Gunmetal Grey (?) 5th Gen passing in opposite direction on Highland Ave (also about an hour ago)... Not a GT, but possibly a 3.6R? Gave a wave, but passed too quickly to see if you replied...

    Nice looking cars!

  2. If a vendor came up with a kit to remedy that, I bet there'd be interest.

I would spend an unhealthy amount of money to get a proper handbrake back in the car... How do you offer a car strictly with a manual transmission and a turbocharged engine, and NO handbrake... epic fail.

  3. what was in front, who was behind?

"the wagon took offense and beat me to the left lane and accelerated past me."

Really Ian? Is power the only thing that decides who is in front on a highway? Not safe merging, not speed at which one is already travelling? Even if we ignore all the other factors, please explain how your claim of switching to a car with less power (and lower power to weight ratio) would make him faster.

  4. Just got my 2012 subaru about 2 months ago and have been looking all over foe some good info on mods. Seems like this is the place. I will post picks as soon as I ge the wheels and the grill blacked out. I have not seen any info on blacking out the trim around the windows and suggestions? Also any suggestions on exhaust? I dont wnat to make it a duel just something to give a nice little sound nothing crazy.

Welcome and congrats on the car! Since you're talking about a single exhaust, I'm guessing your car is a 2.5i? In that case, don't waste your money or time looking for power mods... they really don't exist for the N/A engines... unless you're looking to turbocharge it! ;) Instead, concentrate on handling and aesthetics. A larger rear sway bar is a fantastic (and relatively cheap) upgrade. Coilovers are your best bet for both lowering and suspension gains, although there is a shock/strut combo from RCE/Bilstein that is "in the works", but it's been in the works for over 2 years now... unclear when they will actually be available. For aesthetics, that's obviously something personal to everyone... for me, tinting the windows and adding a low lip spoiler for the trunk were key. Plenty have blacked out the grill, pretty easy to remove the grill (4 screws and a couple of poppins) and plasti-dip it... there's a thread somewhere where someone blacked out the window trim, but off the top of my head I don't remember where. Probably search the 5th Gen forum (and possibly this picture forum) for "window trim" might be a good place to start... I don't have any info/knowledge on single exhaust options... only things I've heard of is people going from single to dual...

    Good luck, and have fun!

hi all. just got a 2013 legacy 2.5 sport. looking forward to posting pics and getting good advice from everybody.

Welcome and hope you enjoy the car! Remember to search the forums, lots of good advice/info already out there!

  5. So my Wife said I could spend $500 on my GT. I am happy with the stock power/speed so I am looking into exterior styling. I am in the process of plasti-dip'n my grill and window tinting is already scheduled (not part of the $500)....I also plan on using Lowe's for my front lip (just for now). I could use a spoiler and probably headlights but PLEASE throw some ideas at me.

One of the best bangs for your buck is a larger rear sway bar... something like a 22mm Whiteline will run you about $200 and will make a noticeable improvement in stability and cornering! Would leave you enough money for a spoiler, which I think is necessary on 5th Gens for aesthetic reasons...

    My $0.02

  6. Most definately thinking about RSB and stage1. Gonna wait for taxes and see how much I get back first. I was thinking of ordering the RCE and blisten shocks as well. But I'm not sure if those shocks are still available.

Anybody have any other set up thats working for them on our perfect smooth roads here in NE?

I believe the shocks are still available, but obviously the struts are still "in production"... Hopefully ready soon, but impossible to tell, given that they've been "in production" for about 2 years now...

  7. As others said, def go to Alberto... he'll take good care of you, and your car!

Any other things I should get done as well?

Get an AccessPort and go stage 1? Upgraded RSB? Two amazing, relatively cheap mods, which will provide a noticeable improvement! Great to see another 5th Gen owner in the area!

ALSO: If anyone is around Somerville, keep an eye out for a MA license plate with a Brentuning frame on it! Just noticed that my front plate has gone missing sometime recently, likely due to the blizzard... Grrrrrr!:mad:

  8. Those look awesome!! Do you or anyone else have any suggestions on which method would be best to paint them? I don't want to leave them matte, I would prefer to have a clear coat finish

I sanded down a few large scuffs (curb rash) I had on the rims, then just plasti-dipped mine with the tires on the rims, knowing that you can peel the p-dip off of the rubber after it dries... In retrospect I wish I had used the index card method (described below) to contain the spray, as in some spots the p-dip didn't coat the tire thickly enough to make it easy to peel off. So now there are a few places where it looks like my tires are shedding their top layer of skin (like after a bad sunburn).

I think for a clear coat/shiny finish there are a few more steps involved (sand/scuff the whole surface, primer?, paint, clear coat), but I am not sure... Since it was for my winter setup, I know it's gonna get banged up, so just want to be able to re-spray the problem areas easily, hence my approach... good luck, and post pics!

A trick some people will do so they dont have to pay to dismiunt the tires is to buy a deck of cards and stick them around the wheel between the tire and rim and then spray to paint
