I also replaced the PCV valve on my 3.6.
Why did that take 5 minutes, when on my 07 LGT it takes 30 - 45 minutes??

Change the brakes and rotors, Hawk HPS and Centric. First time ever changing myself. Had some issues with the back rotors as I forgot to disengage the ebrake. Other than that fairly easy with a little swearing at a few bolts.
Thanks again to the forum for the DIY!
When I got my windshield repaired the LARGE repairman dented my wheel well. When trying to loosen a bolt on the calipers I guess my shoulder pushed up the wheel well from below and popped out the dent. BONUS!

Got my Centric rotors and Hawk HPS pads in for all 4 corners. Just ordered a PCV. I know what I'll be doing this weekend.
Last weekend was all about the LGT. Seized caliper pin, axle replacement, and manifold leaks.

Well, guys, that's how it played out. We took delivery of a 2019 WRX Limited yesterday morning.
We managed to hold off the car shopping thing almost another two years but ended up pretty much having to on shorter notice than we'd have preferred. Let's just say that the estimated repair cost (not from a crash, BTW) was going to exceed retail value and that there was still a decently powerful 4-door with a manual transmission available. Had there not been such a car, I'd have had it fixed. Even though we're a couple of years older than when I posted #349 (I'm 71, she's a couple of years younger), we're both still just as insistent on having a MT as ever.
Requisite picture, color is dark gray metallic. Best picture I could get given the time of day/sun position. That's not my house in the background, it's just what was behind where the car could be sitting in the sun.

Nice car. My wife has a 2018, same color, 6 speed of course.
Our other two Legacies, LGT and 3.6 are 5EAT, so it's nice to have the options.

Thanks for this thread. 2nd time referring to it. I had a leaky boot and replaced the axle with a Surtrack that still has the C clip at the end. 15k miles and it's making noise. I cleaned and rebooted my original axle.
Now I can't seem to get the Surtrack out of the tranny. Maybe I need to wedge a bigger screw driver/pry bar between the tranny/green cup on axle?? Any other suggestions.
Edit: Got the axle out, but have another issue.

Just ordered the parts! Now to get a bigger rear swaybar.
Cost? Let us know how the install goes!

I typically have people ask if my '13 Legacy is a BMW or Lexus. lol
Today I got a compliment of sorts from a Ford Focus ST driver about my 07 LGT. He kept looking and looking from 3 cars lengths ahead. Until I got on it and kept creeping past him. I guess the look of shock while he leaned forward for more POWAH was the compliment.

I know the ECU keeps track of the number of flashes/resets, which the dealer can check. Is it possible to change that number through the tools currently available? This would be for a 2017 WRX.
Which sadly is at a body shop currently.

For mt exhaust leak I jacked up the car, soaped all the gaskets on the DP, UP, exhaust mani, and fired up the car. Started bubbling at the EM crossover. Double thick grimm gaskets and good to go.

Sweet. Let me finish my GT up in the next few weeks and I'll hit you up for the WRX. I have a 3.6R as well. Worth tuning for 87 fuel? Really don't want ANOTHER car that runs premium. Lol

I assume a '17 WRX would require an AP for a tune?

I tried this fix, didnt' work, got a new map light, still not fixed. Turns out my passenger airbag controller is bad, $500 part, $500 in labor. At least Subby Corp is paying the labor.
Good luck!

Good description. I will assume he got the exact look he was going for.

~95k. Running like a champ (after a years of TLC), stg 2 Tuning Alliance tune almost done. Just working on getting air bag light on dash fixed and I'm all set.
-
Dealer checked it out.
Here is what they said.
Codes 25, 26, 38. Diagnosed for 25. Connected test harness U to connector AB6 on air bag control module, and tested voltage at pin 6 on connector 2U of test harness. More than 10 volts with key on, grounded to chassis. Recommended replacing passenger air bag control module.
Part $455 + $550 in labor.
I called Subby corp and they are looking into this.
I'll get it fixed either way. Might end up selling as Stg 2, since a 17 WRX unexpectedly entered my life lol.

Ended up just buying the part. Dash light went off for a while, but back on now. The overhead light works; shows airbag on/off depending if someone is sitting in the seat with the belt buckled.
Thoughts?

3rd time and still not fixed.
Not looking fwd to spending more money, but I think this is the part I need:

Maybe?

Thanks! I did reflow all the connections. Didn't want to do it a 3rd time.
-
I think I got it. I held the iron to the point for a while longer, flux bubbled a bit. Seems to be fixed for the moment. Fingers crossed!
-
Hmmm nope light still on. I'll try one more time to make sure I got it all soldered. Any other suggestions?
-
Finally fixed mine. I ended up just soldering all the points again. Seems to be off after starting the car, good sign. Thanks!

Even though I'm 7 years late on the project, do I get to be your intern if I crack it?
Looking at the code in a hex editor this is simpler than the ECU code at least. Lots and lots of lookup tables, and blank space in the code. I suppose we're going to have to use to find the SSM routine and start by looking at the variables that populate those values. I think this is how they got started pulling apart ECU's. You can kind of make out where some of the shift point tables are just looking at the values, and they are a lot bigger than the Subaru XT TCU tables that have been published.
Trying to get IDA setup now.....
Edit: Anyone figure out the code entry point yet? The bootloader (or at least all of it) isn't in the ROM file. It looks like the first two pages of the flash (0x0000, 0x4000) are maybe part of the bootloader code of calibration data. The 0x8000 page starts looking more like the "program" portion of the code, but I havent found the entry point yet.
Ha! I would if I could. I hire hundreds if interns and new grads each year, but you need to be in school or a recent grad.
It would be awesome if this gets momentum. Enjoying my Stg 2 tune, can't wait till it's done. I'm sure the hex mod + tcu tuning would really livin this beast up.
What did you do to your 5th gen today?? -V4
