  1. IMO, If that matches "real life", there's way too much foreground lighting there on the road directly in front of the car. That output is terribly controlled.
  2. Subaru Canada giving me the middle finger...
  3. Frankly they have enough to do without trying to keep track of how your system is installed. I'd remove it yourself. I have the 07 radio in mine and went back to the stock one for the recall as I didn't want to trip them up with the non-standard aux-in wiring.
  4. How bad were the dash scratches? As for the antenna wire, which part? Radio end or car end? Even if it was a little frayed, they shouldn't have pulled on it hard enough to break it.
  5. Glad it worked out! I've lost count of how many times the mini ratchet set has helped me out with various projects.
  6. Oh, almost forgot. Getting to the screws on the bracket is a pain, and so is getting the screws back in the hole with the bracket in place. Place a couple layers of scotch tape over the back side of the bracket to retain the screw as you hold the thing in place.
  7. Yes. I think the actuator that fails is the mode door actuator, which is at the top and a pain to get to. I found my mini ratchet set to be very helpful in getting the screws on the bracket. http://www.eastwood.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/p/7/p70289.jpg
  8. Set the temp dials to coldest, turn off A/C button and adjust to "fresh" from recirc. This won't heat the incoming air as air will be diverted away from the heater core by the air mix doors inside the HVAC box.
  9. I don't think so, but that shouldn't matter. It's the part, not the implementation that's killing people.
  10. No kidding. This shouldn't have been a fatal collision: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/04/07/14/32EF5C2900000578-3527019-image-a-20_1460036239120.jpg http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3527019/Honda-reports-10th-US-death-Takata-air-bags.html Or this one: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/08/24/04/3788A4EE00000578-3754799-image-a-97_1472008680163.jpg http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3754799/Scott-Eastwood-reveals-s-harder-date-girlfriend-died-car-crash.html
  11. Did you make a complaint with SOA? Call Us 1-800-SUBARU3 (1-800-782-2783) Hours of Operation Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (EST) Friday 10:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (EST) Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (EST) Sunday Closed
  12. That's an interesting take on them, but I can't see it being true. In North America they've always been considered Supplemental Restraint Devices (SRS). I can't see them being "less violent" in the EU. They need to deploy in a fraction of a second regardless if you're wearing a seatbelt. We know that there were many Japanese cars exported to the EU that have had airbags recalled. But the EU also manufacturers a lot of vehicles that are never exported and likely don't use nearly as many Japanese parts.
  13. Please carefully examine the relay schematic (should be on the top or side) to ensure that it has a protection diode in it. It's not mentioned on the Autozone site for that part number. Subaru had to replace quite a few fried ECMs under warranty because one of the cooling fan relays from the factory didn't have a protection diode built in.
  14. I had to replace my A/C relay once as well. Wouldn't come on or would come on for a short time then when it went to cycle it wouldn't come back on. Replaced the relay and all has been OK since. (If you can call Subaru A/C "OK"... It's grossly undersized for a car with the amount of glass the 3rd gen Outback has.)
  15. It's a good thing I kept my 05 radio when I upgraded to the 07 unit. I swapped that back in for the recall work. I didn't want them having to deal with anything not stock.
  16. Center console box between seats needs to come up to allow the shifter trim to clear the e-brake boot without scratching the leather surface. EDIT: Actually, the e-brake boot can come up on its own, but the shifter trim does tuck slightly under the trim in front of the cup holder, so it should come up to be safe. Then the trim on either side of the shifter trim and up the sides of the radio The radio/HVAC unit comes out The lower trim on the dash comes out (above your feet) Glove box comes out I believe the panels at the side of the center stack have to come out but I'm not positive. The A-pillars come out The gauge cluster comes out The cubby/vents comes out The dash comes out I did end up with a few minor scratches and a glove box that doesn't latch as easily, but I'm surprising rattle-free.
  17. Sounds like they screwed up the paperwork for the recall. There shouldn't be any charges for this job. Was any other work done?
  18. You talking about the end-caps at the very ends of the dash at the side that the doors cover when closed? Mine are already fairly loose from having them on and off a few times. I had a glass shop break the clips on the A-pillar covers once. Glued them back with silicone and didn't tell me. Yep, I had them order new ones. I'm mostly worried about scratches being put in the dashboard. It seems it would be easy to damage if the vents were pried out the wrong way. Center vent just pulls out without using any pry tools, not sure about the sides or if they even need to come out. I put my original 2005 radio back in as I know the funky ground connector on the 07 with the aux-in harness will confuse them. I'll have to remove my dashcam wiring as it's all curled up at the right side behind that end panel. It's going in next weekend. God give me strength
  19. With an additional 35 to 40 million airbags having just been added to the recall (http://autoweek.com/article/recalls/nhtsa-adds-35-40-million-takata-inflators-largest-recall-us-history) I wonder if any more airbags in our cars use the problematic inflators?
  20. Speaking of which, my '05 never came with a cabin air filter. Anyone know the P/N for the necessary bits to retrofit one in? It'll need the tray, filter and new glove box box and whatever else.
  21. I googled the various steering wheel swap threads, but I was unable to make out a manufacturer stamp on the driver's airbag. I think they might be from a different manufacturer.
