  1. Thanks. I do understand the function of the solenoid in the system but I still can't quite figure out what the purge valve does. I suppose I should just replace both at this age. Odd that there's no CEL though.
  2. I'm having a small EVAP issue - car will immediately die after fueling up, but then subsequent starts work fine. I'm assuming fuel vapors are being forced out of the tank into the intake during fueling and are cleared out during the first attempt at starting it. I see there's an EVAP solenoid and a purge valve in the system. On the surface, it looks like the system would run just fine with only the EVAP solenoid as the vacuum on the light blue hose would draw fuel vapor through the solenoid from the green line when the solenoid is open. The two orange lines on the purge valve look to have equal amounts of vacuum on them. Am I correct in assuming that under boost, the orange line from the intake manfold opens the purge valve and pressurizes the EVAP line or does it close the valve? Or does it redirect vapors in the green EVAP line into the turbo inlet? I just can't quite wrap my head around what is happening and what the relationship is between the solenoid, valve what happens under boost/vacuum. Thanks!
  3. Alright, my fix for the silly thing was to use a wing nut and two nuts on the bolt, jam it all together and then rotate the win nut to tighten the bolt. There was simply no way to get even the smallest of screwdrivers where it needed to be to get to the head of the bolt. Fuel drip fixed.
  4. Nah, sorry, it's the one you have in your other picture with the safety wire under, the first little rubber hose on the supply as it supplies fuel to the driver side injectors. I have one of these tiny little wrenches (https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/mastercraft-bit-wrench-set-29-pc-0588626p.html) and was able to snug it up a little bit, but the hose clamp bolt was pressing against the TGV at the angle I needed. Still wasn't snug enough as it dribbled during priming of the pump. Going to figure out something else today. How tight do these things need to be? I went from "not a problem" to "a few milliliters dribbling out on priming the pump" seemingly overnight after about a week of colder (above freezing) weather. The screw was definitely not snug when I went to loosen it, but not loose enough that I could rotate the clamp.
  5. Were you not able to get the clamp tight enough or is the wire just for redundancy?
  6. Edit: Looks like it's the 100psi fuel injection fuel hose that would work. Anyone know the size off the top of their head?
  7. So finally last night I had a strong gas smell while driving. Got home and of course everything was warm and no leak to be seen. This morning I primed the pump and of course in the cold, the fuel leaked out of the little rubber hose behind the fuel filler EDIT: Oil filler tube. Getting to the screw is a pain in the you-know-what but I think I have a plan. Was also thinking of picking up a small bit of hose in case I need to replace the hose, but externally the hose looks to be in fine condition with no cracks or splits, so I don't know what the likelihood is of there being a problem with the hose. If I do have to replace it, can I just use any standard 40psi fuel hose? I see the system runs at 43psi so I don't know if it's a 'nominal' rating or not, or if I need something else. I was quite surprised at how loose the bolt in that clamp was. I don't have the tools to get it tight tonight, but I'm also concerned about over-tightening it. Any guide here? I don't have a 1.1 ft-lb torque wrench
  8. I'm currently using the PIAA silicone wipers and they chatter/skip too much for my liking on the Aquapel treated glass.
  9. I don't really care about the cheapest, I want ones that work well with the Aquapel as I plan to keep using it. Sadly, every response I read online about this is usually something like "why do you need wipers with Aquapel?"
  10. Over the years on my 05XT I've applied Aquapel to the windshield. Overall I like it - it improves visibility at night as water beads rather than splatters, however it's not without drawbacks. Our rain tends to be frequently of the light misty/drizzly type, and our speeds around town are mostly between 20-40mph. So with the smaller droplets and slower speeds, it's not the best combination to realize the benefits of the Aquapel. So that means I'm using the wipers lots. I find the streaking, as brief as it is, to be a detriment to visibility especially under the newer whiter LED street lamps. I also have experienced wiper skipping/chattering, especially in the lower left corner at the furthest point from the wiper clip. I've used Bosch Icon/Evolution wipers, PIAA Silicone wipers and Valeo Ultimate wipers, all with mixed results. Any thoughts?
  11. Not yet. It's loudest on start as pressure builds then settles down quite a bit. Groans a bit on turning the wheeel. The PS fluid is quite old and I have a new o-ring for the inlet tube bit so when I get a chance I'll change the ring and exchange the fluid. I know that o-ring is prone to making noises when it's failed.
  12. Going to pop the PS/alternator belt off to narrow down a source of noise. Is it best to disconnect the 3 wire plug from the alternator when running the engine without this belt or just leave it all connected? Thanks.
  13. I've added a quick little log. Didn't go 100% throttle with this one, last one the car was pulling up to 8 degrees of FBKC so I was a little hesitant, but I didn't capture WGDC with that one. Anyway, maybe this is of use. Thoughts? Lots of FBKC still. 240,000km on the car, very little oil burn, never has been a problem with this engine. Bit of a rough-ish idle. Looking at the roughness monitor for cylinders 1-4, it never increments, always sits at zero. Either it's broken, or there's no misfire at all Book1.csv
  14. Car wouldn't start today - gave the starter motor a little percussive persuasion and she fired right up. CEL was on and I see there were three codes - two related to cam position sensor and one on the crank sensor. I'm assuming these are related to my repeat attempts to start the car without the starter engaging? Maybe? Any thoughts? Thanks!
  15. Thanks for your contribution to the community. It was a great little solution that I used for a while before upgrading to the 07 head unit with aux-in. Now I have an Alpine ilxw650 in the spot where the cubby is/was and mostly use CarPlay with that. Times sure do change!
  16. So for those of you who have replaced your dash (either the warranty or bought one) - some of you have mentioned the texture is a little different, little greyer than original. How does this contrast with the doors and rest of the dash? Does it look out of place at all or does it match well? Pics would be best Cheers.
  17. PNW type humidity here. I wish I knew a good upholsterer - rather than replacing it with one that's been sitting in a warehouse for 10+ years it'd be nice to do a nice stitched Alcantara finish on it.
  18. Odd - mine is kept out of the sun most of the time too and yet when the sun hits it, within minutes it's starting to get glossy and tacky.
  19. A little nudge here - parts for 06 seats are still available but before I buy those it would be really nice to see if anyone has had both an 05 and an 06 seat apart to see the internal differences with the cushion frame and power/rail unit.
  20. So the airbag does work? That's different from unclematt's statement. Anyway, I'm specifically looking to learn if the cushion frame that's highlighted in green in the OP attached image is transplantable from an 06 seat. The 05 part is discontinued and I don't really need a whole new seat, and at this point it's unlikely I'll find a good condition SpecB seat to swap in.
  21. Ok, good to know a 06 seat won't swap into an 05. Mostly concerned with that specific base frame piece though.
  22. Hello! Does anyone know for the 8 way power driver seat if there were any differences between the 2005 and the 2006 models, specifically with the cushion frame? Searching opposedforces I get the following: https://www.subaruparts.com/oem-parts/subaru-cushion-frame-64100ag05a and https://www.subaruparts.com/oem-parts/subaru-cushion-frame-64100ag03a Just trying to figure out if I should risk ordering the part for the 2006 or not. The front height adjustment bracket has cracked. Thanks!
