I think you can use freessm with an accessport. If not, a dealership wouldn't be able to access anything with SSMIII if you have an accessport. Romraider should also work if that's the case since it also uses ssm. BTW romraider also works with a vag-com on the 07+ ecus. AFAIK, everything works with vag-com except for ecuflash.

That was my first reaction as well. But I think it's an illusion from the different colors. It looks like it's tiered. I'm curious about the side profile of it.

You can't go over 408 rt or you get less throttle. It will limit the max throttle to whatever plate angle coincides with 408 on the map. It doesn't have enough of an effect to give harsh shifting though.

You are saying that it is harmful? I don't see how it can be. Wasn't that customer getting tuned for a 20G? Not trying to start an argument, just saying that one case of a big turbo wrecking an already beaten on 5eat really doesn't point to that. Having said that, it doesn't appear do enough to fix the slow shifting problems that wear out the transmission and it gets learned away pretty quickly.

There's a thread on it. A few of us did it and I think I'm the only one who noticed a difference. I will say that the TCU learned it away after a while. I did back to back flashes with it and there was definitely harder shifts with the higher requested torque value at lower rpm. It doesn't increase the max line pressure though, just in the lower rpm.

I was thinking more along the lines of self installing ClimberD's kit WITH instructions. I wouldn't attempt something like this blind. That would be about equal to taking a hammer to my VB and hoping it shifted better. With good instructions, I'm confident I would be fine. I'm very organized and thorough.

How much time do you think it would take to mod the VB with the proper kit and tools. IIRC, you only have to drop the pan to get the VB out. I'm curious if it would be doable at a DIY garage in a day without a second VB.
