this is the thing that keeps me worried about keeping my car super long term...would like to get another 10 years out of it but when parts start becoming difficult/impossible to come by, man that's tough to hold on to.
Generally, I think we should be able to find the 5th Gen parts which are common across all models. If Subaru discontinues it, the aftermarket will likely come up with a solution for the critical parts. For the 5th Gen GT specific parts, I think we will mostly be able to come up with solutions or buy used parts these car age and more GT's end up getting parted out.
With the price increases of used cars, I have thought about selling my 2012 GT. I could drive the 2010 GT when I finish it and sell it in a couple years when the car prices stabilize. Ultimately, I still really enjoy driving my '12 GT and it is in exceptional shape for age/mileage. I am just going to continue to drive it.

you talking about part number 21311AA160 for the oil cooler?
Yes that is the part number I ordered. Until a few days ago I was waiting on multiple parts, so I didn't know what was going to come in 1st. I might call them up and see if I can get the rest of the parts shipped so I can start rebuilding the motor. It would have been helpful to have the part o rebuild the engine over thanksgiving (my original plan) or Christmas break. I have a family vacation planned for later this month, so I am not really sure how much I am going to get done until February anyways.

And that might be the best thing to do as they performed the service with the proper tools..
But what I'm trying to say is that we might have been removing those gears the wrong way all along. Company23 might have designed the wrong tool because the Intake Cam Sprockets has those 3 protrusions outside.
This should really be the proper tool to remove/install the Intake Sprocket/Camshaft bolt:

People just don't know their Intake Gears are damaged inside because they never took them apart after using the Company23 tool.
Wrong Tool for the job:

With my car having 210K miles, I'm pretty sure there might be some metal shavings inside the Gears. Why not learn to take them apart and service them ourselves?
I heard Subaru says they are not a serviceable item. But how could that be given metal shavings might end up inside and even prevent the AVCS system from working properly?
Notice the manual mentions the 1st tool posted above, not sure why Company23 tool came up with that tool with the 3 lobes.
Interesting. How much do the OEM Subaru tools cost?

mr goodhue, calling mr goodhue....
LOL, I still haven't finished my other 2010GT. It has been taking forever for rebuild parts. I just received the engine bearing this week that I ordered months ago. I am still waiting on the OEM past order I made with the rings, the 5th Gen oil cooler seemed to be delayed. It has ben 2.5 months. I am a little worried that they are going to cancel the order for that part.

Sorry I can't take on another LGT project. If it is price right and good cosmetic shape, it should be a good project for someone (perhaps a 2.5i owner?)

I use Motul 8100 5w40

Alternator whine through the radio is almost always due to grounding issue. On one of my vehicle I did a stereo I had a whine and I thought I had grabbed a good gnd. It had a whine and when I looked at it in closer detail I realized the floor panel I grounded it to had was mostly had an adhesive to the rest of the floor and and it just a had a couple tack welds.

Motul 300 is an improvement over the stock oil filled from the factory even in cold weather. It is still isn’t easy on cold days (MA). The extraMT is much easier on cold day. . I am in the metro Boston Area. If you want to drive down fine NH, I will sell you enough extra MT oil for a fill.

I plan on going vf52 with ewg and fmic soon so I think Imma just gut mine for the time being if that seems to be the problem, I have a video of the supercharger type whine but it won’t let me upload it :/. If the turbo is practically gone though and all else is good I might just upgrade to the vf52 now and have the car detuned until I get the supporting fuel system mods and what not. There are quite a few cobb dyno tuners in my area so it wouldn’t be much of an inconvenience. But yea I think like weekly instances of -32 is wack and with that high of a reading I can’t conceive it being an actual knock reading, it never happens through WOT either it’s always just random.
Have you removed your down pipe and actually checked to see if the turbo has any play in it?

If it was my car, I would pull the shifter assembly to see if something failed with in that and is binding everything up. You description doesn't sound good.
I had an issue where the delivery driver didn't lift up on the reverse lock out and force that over.

Just saw a listing here on the forums from a local for an 06 OBXT 5MT... probably going to check it out when the new year hits. My wish list: MT, wagon, and turbo. Check. Check. And check. Booking the wife a massage now. Already surprised her with earrings for Xmas. What else can I do.... lol

Just be prepare for turbo and/or short block replacement for 05-09 EJ255's. If the cost and/or work of that job scare you off, the 05-09 Turbo isn't for you. With the burnt valve/blown head gasket repairs of the 5th Gen GT, the same thing can be said about those.

Subaru publishes equivalents.
3M™ HighStrength Threadlocker 08730 is the equivalent for Three Bond 1324.

Thank you for all your help!
If I could ask one final question that you may know -- will the wiring from 2013-2014 transmissions work in our 2010-2012 cars? I understand Subaru switched from EJ to FB motors in 13-14 and everyone says how the CANBUS in these cars is very picky. I would hate for everything to bolt up perfectly and then have the electronics freak out lol Should just be a couple harnesses on the tranny so I'm not super worried, but if you have any thoughts I'd like to hear!
Seriously thank you so much!
In looking at the service manual, I think the 6MT models only has 2 sensors, one for the neutral and one for reverse. In looking at the online parts interchange those parts are interchangeable.

I remember the reason we have TPMS. I didn't agree with it back then and still don't.
But I'm a car guy, and can feel when something isn't right with my car. But in the interest of safety and soccer mom's, we all have to put up with TPMS.
For those that want to get new sensors, I would think the tire shop would reset the light for free.
I found many shops charge for programming the sensors and/or charge an exorbitant amount for the sensors.
-
Just because the engine doesn't set any engine codes, doesn't mean the ECM is compensating for the displacement or is tuned properly. You would need to data log the engine to verify. Most likely it will need to be tuned like the EJ20X & Y engines or it is going to end up like the last engine if its driven at WOT.
-
I would check your tires to make sure the tire depths are even. Usually the center differential going out is because someone replaced 2 tires instead of all 4 or a tire was damaged and they installed one new tire.
-
Are you getting a P420 code? Even if you are not getting that exact code, I would follow the engine diagnostic flow charts. Many time the catalytic code is a failing sensor or its an exhaust leak. Those are much more common than a failing catalytic converter.

I looked what seemed like 3years for a grp wagon and settled on an 06 limited. Then 3months later this is posted. Fml. Glws
Good thing I didn't see this wagon in time, I probably wouldn't have been able to resist buying it...
-
Have you tried looking the code up in the service manual and looking at the diagnostic flow chart? It seem a like unlikely coincidence that the same issue happened with both transmissions. It is possible, but the problem may not be your CVT.

Yesterday, I got my 2nd air bag and the parking brake recalls done at the dealership. I went to the showroom and they had just tables where the new cars usually were. I walked around parking which was really bare. I thought they had OBXT, but was someone car. They had an LXT but it was used. In walking around, I realized that they only had 1 new car on the lot. In the back of lot was 4th Gen Spec.b which was sitting really high in the front. Likely the engine was out and it was a YNASB candidate.
Ugh, they scratched or cracked my dash in my Legacy when they did the air bag recall. I just noticed it today (i only drive my car once a week) and I picked it up in the dark.

The short throw shifter in themselves reduce a lot of the slop of shifter. The 15+ WRX (not the STI) fit our cars.

The base na v6 can find fairly easy in a long bed since those are mostly work trucks. Trying to find a rcsb is a bit harder with the whole sport truck scene really starting to take off
Those are still huge. My perspective though is as a long time GMC Syclone owner...

It seems with research I'm doing in the regular cab you can rarely find the 2.7 eco and the 5.0 coyote. The standard V6 is easy to find in long beds. I missed one today by about 4 hrs owell. Luckily enough there is one here local that's pretty done up. Might be making a move on one and selling my Silverado to the dealer rather than the hassle of private party
I don't know what kind of lawnmower you have, but my friends F150 3.5TT sounds nothing like it. I would rather have the 3.5TT, with a tune it a lot faster than 5.0. The only turbo engine I have driven that I thought sounded horrible from the factory was the Jeep 2.0T.
My neighbor kid has an older CRV (slammed, stretched times, with lot of camber) with some aftermarket exhaust (maybe no cat) that does actual sound like a lawn mower. When he 1st did the exhaust, the 1st time I noticed was him starting it up at 6am and I woke up wondering who the hell is mowing their lawn at that time.
