  1. I think it'd be fine. I have a '96 L wagon and it has 150k on it and it doesn't have any problems. The nice thing is that it has the 2.2 which is pretty much bullet proof. You don't have to worry about headgaskets. You will need to check out all the fluids because they may need to be changed, hopefully someone did the timing belt around 100k.
  2. I think that would be a decent car. It has lower miles for its age.
  3. I'm at 125,7XX... Definitely not going to make my goal of 130,000 by the end of the year... Unless I need to drive 4,000 miles for something.
  4. I take mine to a good little independent place and they charge like $1800 for doing everything necessary with the headgaskets and having the head machined. Timing belt is thrown it as long as you want to buy the belt, they don't charge labor on that since you are paying enough to have the gakets done.
  5. I have needed to get my steering rack replaced since 100k, Idk why mine went out so early.
  6. TK-801, Nice! My record is 362 miles on one tank, I didn't have much to spare though.
  7. 124,5XX now. I'm trying hard to get to 130,000 by the end of the year!
  8. Yeah, my car has just over 123K on it and I still have the original headgaskets. Sometimes they don't blow until over 200K but that is sort of rare. Just be expecting it to happen though.. That's what I'm doing. When I see the temp gauge start to spike I'll just shut if off and have it towed to the shop that way I don't have to pay more for warping the heads or ruining the whole engine.
  9. You're looking at $1,300-$2,500 for headgasket repair. It just depends on where you take it and how much work needs to be done.
  10. I wouldn't mind her having it but my car is always clean, always. My sister isn't like that. Her room is always *cluttered* to put it nicely. And I don't want the car to be like that.
  11. I have been looking around at other cars.. All kinds of other cars and I have never thought about selling my GT. My plan was always to keep it. My little sister is going to be driving soon and she wants the GT. I want to get a car with a stick but I don't want to give my sister the GT lol
  12. I've talked to my dad about getting a Subaru with a manual (I talk to my dad about all this stuff because he is a genius with cars and I'm not) and all he ever says to me is "why do you need one?" "The car you have is just fine" That is what I hear every time.
  13. I've driven a manual 3 times total. No one in my family has manuals. Only my 2 aunts that live far away from me.
  14. Damn, I wanted a WRX.. I'll probably just get an RS or a newer Legacy that is NA. I'll just be sure to get a 5 speed this time.
  15. Yeah however I don't make enough money to pay my own insurance so.... Yeah, I just gotta roll with what I can and as long as I don't get a ticket I don't have to pay for insurance.. They think insurance will be bad on a turbo car I want.. Wait until my dad gets his SLP575 Camaro insured. That is going to be really high!
  16. Yeah I'm thinking about a bug eye also. If I save next spring I'll be able to get one but my parents don't know if they want me to have something turbo because I already drive to fast with an NA engine lol I really wouldn't be nervous about that Outback. YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE HEADGASKETS WERE DONE, ALONG WITH THE TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP. You will screw yourself over if you buy the car without those things already being done because they are costly if they haven't been done.
  17. That would be your best bet. At least you'd be able to get some of your money back that way. Right now I'm just saving for a newer Legacy GT. I'd love to get a turbo charged one but my parents don't want it on their insurance.
  18. rshaw123, I have to say that I would have probably ditched that car. But hopefully this time you'll better luck.
  19. The one I'm fixing is a '96. I just bought the car to fix it and sell it. I needed something that I could do quick so I can get some money in my savings account.
  20. Yeah, my Subaru that I have right now is really great. Never gives me issues which is good because I commute 100 miles round trip two days a week. But the headgaskets still haven't gone yet so that is the only thing I have to worry about.
  21. Yeah I wouldn't even give the guy 2 grand for that car.. In his ad he says it runs but needs about $800 worth of work for it to be in tip top shape. Who is going to pay $2,400 for a car with 214,000 miles then turn around and have to put $800 into it. You can buy a lower mileage car for $3,200. I've never used sythetics. My dad works at a car dealership so I just say I need an oil change and I get them for free. We always use regular oil in everything. My mom's Yukon XL has 191k on it and it is fine.
  22. I just use regular oil and I get my oil changed every month and half. I drive roughly 2,000 miles a month now. rshaw123, I hope you get your Subaru fixed up soon! There is an Outback that popped up on craigslist here in Sandpoint and it has 214,000 for $2,400. I'm half tempted to go look at it even though I probably wouldn't buy it.
