  1. I caught on after I posted, but thank you for the clarification. The data curves are interesting, nonetheless. I haven't spent much time thinking about it, so I haven't matched up crank angle with cycle just yet. Thanks!
  2. Source? 4-stroke engine? Applicability? I don't fully understand the crank angle X-axis. i'm going to need some more 'splainin.... p.s., what does this have to do with how crappy simulated gear shifts are!?
  3. What a strange reply Dude bitches without even so much as an anecdote.
  4. +1 wtf is he talking about? // I’ve just started smelling coolant when parking in the garage. Doesn’t bode well
  5. You were taken advantage of by the dealer, most likely...
  6. I think it has more to do with accelerator position or requested torque than RPM. I've backed off the throttle after the first simulated shift, however, and it continues to simulate shifts until I back off the accelerator significantly.
  7. Sorry, I was speaking practically, not of percentage actual wear. Higher crank RPM with equivalent load will result in a much strong hydro-dynamic wedge. At low loads, the effective pressures are also low, so the required film strength is likely N/A as the wedge likely isn't compromised.
  8. If he was driving aggressively, then did he mean a lower ratio, ie., higher RPM for lower load? Clarification: engine wear is infinitesimally higher at lower RPM vs a higher RPM. HOWEVER, I hate when my engine chooses a too-low RPM and I feel that god-awful vibration. The effect may be minimal, but over hundreds of thousands of miles, it definitely has an impact on mounts.
  9. Oh, yea, now I remember - deja vu! Doesn't sound bad at all. Glad you got rid of some of the drone - that would absolutely drive me bonkers, and is the reason I had to get rid of the Nameless ABE on my '08 STI.
  10. I'd love to hear what your exhaust sounds like. I honestly can't imagine it sounding good on a 2.5i, though. Looking forward to being proven wrong!
  11. I'll pay more attention next time. I literally (thought I) stomped the pedal to the floor on two different on-ramps the same day I posted. Maybe I was actually at 99% throttle?
  12. Also, I LOVE how the CVT in our '14 FXT operates, WITHOUT the simulate gear shifting. At 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, it sticks at 3-4k RPM and boosts to 15+ psig and just GOES. I understand that, for a similar desired acceleration (OK, not so similar), getting up in the RPM is required for the 2.5i to produce any sort of power. While I would still prefer this, due to its efficiency, I can see why others wouldn't want the relatively unrefined 2.5i continuously pegged at one high RPM every time they hit a short on-ramp.
  13. This is not how my '15 operates. Pegging the throttle will max out RPM...and then "shift"...and then shift again and again. It's stupid and inefficient!
  14. Very nice; looks like you're doing well I've had the same 12VDC compressor for about a decade now. The lead going into the pump is fraying and may come loose at any moment. I've nursed it along for the past year or so, but there's no way to open the compressor to replace the lead, so that sucks. I'll have to look into the one's you listed as a potential replacement.
  15. It's odd that you deflect from your lack of attention to detail and not paying attention to any part of the conversations ongoing and make a claim that is not provable. I never, ever claim to know anything more than I actually know or have experienced, to the maximum extent practical. I also try to read threads before posting and, if I'm wrong or make a mistake, admit to it.
  16. I did the same thing when I changed the MTF on my previous Subie - hand-tight. Using a wrench at hand-torque to VERY snug was good enough for me. It's only going to have a level slightly above it, at high temp, so I wasn't worried about it. Good on you for changing it, period!
  17. I can't imagine Subaru would allow us to disable VDC in these cars. Traction Control, sure.
  18. The low involvement is because there are more people posting zero-value-added posts than anything useful. Part of that is people who fail to read before they post. Seriously, dude, you posted about paddle shifters when it's completely off-topic. It makes it seems as if you couldn't care less about the thread, any concerns we might be discussing, as well as the conversation we're having. I find this to be equivalent to someone in the office interrupting a conversation mid-way to inject something irrelevant, because they made incorrect assumptions about what we were talking about. THAT is rude, my dude.
  19. No need to assume anything; just read the thread. The whole conversation this thread revolves around is the simulation of shifts in automatic... Is this true? I'll have to take a look, but I didn't think you could disable VDC in the more sedate Subies. Are you thinking of Traction Control?
  20. I honestly don't believe that the tech noticed a difference. What did he say was the solution to your "problem"? In addition, if the CVT were to learn something, wouldn't it be that you drive aggressively? If so, why would it neuter the off-the-line acceleration? Makes no sense.
  21. Accelerate from a stop up to highway speeds at more than 25% throttle and you'll know what simulated shifts are. For my '15, if I keep the pedal at ~20% and 2k RPM it will park there and not simulate shifts. Above that point and it will simulate shifts. While at highway speeds, I figured the increase in RPM was due to the torque converter unlocking and the RPM increasing commensurately, though this might literally be only the CVT changing ratios only. Why? Well, because I always found this odd, since I figured the torque converter on a CVT could lockup at nearly any RPM and vary CVT ratio to achieve the best economy for the RPM requested. Sarcasm? Well, I hope so, because even the HTCVT in my '14 FXT is pretty bad... The "shifts" in my '15 Legacy 2.5i are almost comically slow and rubberbandy! When I say this, I mean that it reminds me of what a car maker might use an example of how BAD CVT's are compared to traditional AT's regarding shift timing.
  22. I installed mine with around the same miles and everything went well. To be fair, though, I bought the car off of a NC transplant last year, who sold the car before it ever made it through a New England winter, soooooo, that may have helped
  23. Sucks to hear, brother. Attention to detail doesn't seem to be very high there...
