shop said my car has turbo lag because gas tank wasn't full!'

Recommended Posts

No codes. When it happens, I have the gas pedal to the floor, and it takes over 3 seconds to go from 20-40.....then at 40 it's fine....it doesn't always happen, maybe every few days, but is a really annoying problem. I never know when I have enough power to pull out or pass someone. I know it's not a 10 sec car, but I know it has to be faster accelerating to 40 mph then it is.

that sounds like a stock 5 eat when its hot after sitting in traffic

It could be a blown turbo... how many miles are on the car... also check for shrapnel from your turbo in the oil pan

if the turbo is damaged it would be all the time

Now that's thinking out of the boxer!

yes but same goes for the other cats if are blocked or not blocked not back and forth

In some rare cases (2 particular 2.0t Subies) we have seen where the UP catalyst became detached and would get sucked up against the upper flange hole under heavy throttle. Then it would fall back down when not. Not very common but if he had a catted up pipe it could have been the issue. Since he is catless UP already not an issue.

ok I had the day off and took my car for a drive. When I'm in sport and shift myself, it accelerates like it should. I stop at 80mph. When I try the same thing in just "D" it big down around 15-20 and stays that way until 40....

So is there a chance it's some sort of tranny issue? Doesn't make sense I can hammer it in Manual and it has the power it should but in drive it's not there?

So far I checked the oil pan, no shavings or metal, have checked the turbo, it's fine, and had a member hook up a laptop and look at it while I was driving and that lv came back normal....I checked all hoses and saw no holes or loose connections....

So in automatic mode you floor it and it bogs down ? What are the rpms ? I would like a video of the cluster

Yes it is like I'm towing a tank thru sand....

I am retarded on how to post pics and vids, if you can pm me your email I took a 10 sec vid yesterday. Rpms don't go past2500-3000 when it happens

I am leaning toward a transmission issue, because if you shift it manually it is working properly, it seems the transmission is doing something out of the ordinary in automatic mode.

I emailed a video of me doing a 60-90 roll to frank ster. I have it floored, I counted almost 8 seconds to go from 60-90ph. I had it manual mode and it was in 5, Rpms don't jump like they should when you floor a car, they slowly climb like I have a cvt tranny

^ seems the tranny is working correctly...

have you looked into the waste gate flapper going a-wall ? kinda looks like what the problem is.

I'll check that tomorrow. I hope that is it, because I'm banging my head against a wall trying to diagnose the issue. if it is the problem, what is the best route to go? The turbo on there now is only 6 weeks old, purchased from subaru.... if I get a whole different turbo, what are my options on a stock 5eat tranny?

I'm hoping that I get a new turbo from subaru because its still under warranty. If not i might go a different route, saw a lot of ppl here running a 16g. Can my stock 5eat handle that? what else is needed for that turbo to fit?

^ if its a recent turbo it really shouldn't have the wastegate flapper moved sideways .. could be but i don't think high probability.

well get a boost gauge .

My car seems to be a bit slower lately too, but then I remember I have the AC on.

A 5EAT LGT isn't slow when you're coming from a '95 Legacy 2.2L.

the a/c doesn't affect anything power wise ...

the ecm turns off the a/c compressor of over iirc 4000 rpm. and on top of that it would take less than 3 hp. and that is roughly 1% of the hp from the engine.

A/C clutch engaging creates parasitic loss which is enough to be a bit noticeable in low hp cars but I think air temperature causes a more noticeable loss in power in our cars. If his car seems slower when the A/C is on, there may be another issue.

I am going to swallow my pride and has the local subaru dealer look at it. I have tried everything I can think of and that was mentioned for me to try in the posts in this thread except the boost gauge. car is running like pure ass right now, no power once I hit 60 mph unless I am flooring it from a 1-5 manual run....but just cruising on the highway I can't pass a Prius going 65....oil is fresh and clean, tranny fluid was done by subaru not too long ago, I love the car. When it runs right

I wouldn't trust a dealer with it, but that's just me. See if you can find a subaru specific shop, heck you shouldn't be terribly far from TIC in OH?

Don't feel bad about it man. Even working at an independent shop we have to send cars to the dealer sometimes. Sometimes you just need a factory scantool to really get the full picture, regardless of what you can do without it.

That is my thoughts, I wish there was a tuning shop or subaru shop near me, I'm in middle of no where. Like 1 hour past pittsburgh heading north, and like 45 mins from youngstown Ohio. I'm In farmland
