KartRacerBoy
Someone school me. Why is plastidip better than painting a wheel in this application?
road race legacy
You can just peel it off.
KartRacerBoy
Expense? Wear?
MasAyinde
Costs about $12 to do all 4 wheels. They also protect wheels from rock chips and salt and such.
KartRacerBoy
$12 for 4 wheels? Do you have to remove the tires from the wheels before plastidip? And who generally does this? Paint shops?
MasAyinde
No, you can spray the rims with the tires mounted. Overspray isn't a problem at all and you can do it in your driveway.
Moderators BarManBean Posted April 8, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 8, 2013 What "metalizer" was used here? Do they have it in silver? "Bullet-proof" your OEM TMIC! <<Buy your kit here>> Not currently in stock
JimyJoeBob
https://www.dipyourcar.com/ For an idea of whats available and things that can be done. Prices probably cheaper if you can source it locally at a Home Depot/Lowe's type place. Also available on different sites online.
fullmonte77
looks good, pics on the car? Finished up the other 3 wheels today. They will be going on this coming weekend.I used the gold metalizer. They also have silver and now copper.I did not know about the copper till yesterday or I would have gone with that.I got all my dip from ebay cost like $60 for 4 cans of black and 2 cans of gold.It does take 1 whole can of black per wheel. You want 3-4 good coats on the wheels or if you try to peel it of it will not come off very well. The thicker it is on there the easier it will come off if you need to take it off. PeterJMC
Maybe I'll just stick to plasti dipping my wheels instead of getting them powdercoated... they are just Rotas after all.
Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted April 21, 2013 Mega Users Share Posted April 21, 2013 The extra layer of plastic should help keep them from exploding apart on the highway. Wheels look good OP. Plasti dip is the shiz.
JmP6889928
Watched the video that JimmyJoeBob supplied and it looks like these guys have their s**t together on how to. BUT....watch the video closely and look around 7:53 and tell me that there isn't a rather large crack in the front rotor of the Audi? Is it just the light reflecting? I don't think so because it stays in the same place even though they are moving the camera.
solo413
How did the paint look at first? I was doing blurple dipyourcar product today and extremely nervous of how bad it looks on the one rim so far it comes out the can looking like rubber...... Wishing I would of not taken this route and just sanded and primed the gold rims to paint the color I wanted anyway!
fullmonte77
I ended up peeling off the dip. It didn't work well on these wheels. I just sandblasted them and painted BBS gold. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
