legacy GT turbo issues

The engine hasn't been ran to much after the 1st turbo blew. Has had 2 turbos on it since first tho. The first one was put on with old clogged cats and blew right away. The second one was but on and never really blew yet but the main shaft that the turbine is connected to is loose. Have to replace it no matter what anyways. Don't think its supposed to be loose at all

And yes matt, went by today and took a look at it. Couple little chunks of metal in the pickup pipe in the oil pan. Not sure what is gonna happen yet with the warranty. But thinking if there is chunks of metal in pan that I might need new interals and short block. Not what I really wanted to happen but might be good in the long run

So its a 3rd party warranty company? That sucks a little, hopefully you wont end up in a lengthy blame game war between them and the stealership.

 

I am a little curious to see where the chunks came from if you say it was a shaft problem with no fin damage. Keep us posted, it seems like you have a pretty good idea what you should be looking for, good luck with it, hope you get your car back soon.

Thanks man. But i believe the chunks of metal came from inside the turbo. The turbine was just in the eating up the walls. The fans were bent not sure how much metal came off them. The inside of deffinetly doesnt look good.

 

So what you think should happen? Change oil lines and go through motor?

Im no expert, there are some guys on here who are, and a couple of good threads on the topic. If the car has been run with contaminated oil I think its a given that they need to go through the engine.

 

There is so much info on here, I think you need to get your car to a suba specialist. .

Yeah I think I would I take it somewhere else if I was paying for it myself. But since its under warranty I don't think I can take it from them and have it still be warrantied. You guys on here are my specialists lol

Hope you can be there when the inspector is. Think you have gathered enough info to make a good case for a new turbo and shortblock. I personally wouldn't settle for anything less. I would just put it simply as if they just do the bare minimum the problem may be fixed but only temporarily and the warranty company may very well be putting even more money into this car.

So he came. I was working so i couodnt make it. But he took pics and he sent him in. Guess the inspector said that he wasnt sure if the shavings were from the turbo or the motor. Tomorrow they are gonna review it and make up there mind. The inspector said the same thing that it wouldnt make sense to just do the turbo and not the engine just incase the engine is shot. Either way there both covered. :-) crossing my fingers.

Make sure the oil cooler is replaced too. It will trap particles and release them into the engine later.

 

At this point your safer to get a new short block or have yours rebuilt. That will ensure you have clean oil passages

 

I guess you know you need a stage 2 tune for a catless DP.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

So if i get a whole new short block. What about break in? It will be starting of with a up and down pipe and a AP. Anything i shouod do?

 

^He sent me a PM and as I am new to Subaru and turbo cars I advised him that questions are best asked here so that the more knowledgeable members can chime in. Also I am assuming that he will only be able to go Stg 1 as the warranty company has replaced his up+dp with factory spec. However the OP may have plans on changing both brand new catted pipes!

Yeah I am running my AP on stage 2. Have a Invidia up/down pipe installed right now. About the oil cooler I will mention it to them when I hear back. They should already know that tho right?

 

If it is covered under warranty then it will be all stock stuff going back in it. Is there a break in period? Should I install AP with install of new stuff or wait?

Well the warrany company isnt going to do anything unless i put a catted downpipe. So lame. Just bought a non-catted one. So of there is anyone that needs a non-catted downpipe for a 05 LGT auto let me know. Bought for $300 and only installed it. Would like to get 300 back out of it.

JakeLau, have you heard of, or been to Pacific Import Auto? If not, go ahead and give them a call, 253.536.0389 -- They're in Spanaway, which isn't too far of a drive for you. I only take my car there, no one else touches my engine. Tell 'em Tris sent ya!

Ok sweet man thanks. Im not to sue if i can take car away now. Or even of. Should cuz of the warranty. The warranty plave just wants the car to be legal thats why they want a catted downpipe. Waiting to make aure their going to do the work before i buy a catted dp.
