Bought a Miata

Recommended Posts

So the other day, I epoxied some of the structural cracks in my dash, just to keep it from falling apart while working on it. Today I hacked the sh*t out of it...

First trial fit:

Took it back out and hacked a few more pieces off, and cut these off the dash support, since they weren't going to be supporting anything:

I accidentally cut into the tubing (which is surprisingly thin and light), so I had to do a quick weld repair before repriming. Support reinstalled:

And dash reinstalled:

Took the dash back out, and epoxied the more cosmetic cracks... just want the thing to be somewhat solid. It will be covered with alcantara or similar fabric.

Also received my AEM wideband controller/gauge:

MS3 harness wire should be here today so I can start working on the other side of the harness, but I may wait until I get the motor back in the car... which should be soon. I'm very close to putting back in, but I only had today off this week, and wanted more than one day... just in case... ;)

Day was a success! Although I think my right front wheel bearing is on its way out. I have to sort through the gopro videos and I also prepaid for some track day photos, so those will be up later.

I know FM is working on wheel hubs with a serviceable bearing, but I don't know if they're available yet...

I need to pull mine off and look at them... replaced them a couple of years ago, but they were just NAPA branded, not sure what I've got! I'll worry about it when I get the car running. :p

I would not worry about bearing failures but hub failures are another story that's just scary.

FM has their blue printed hubs but they are on backorder and $200 a piece. I can go through 4 sets of store branded ones before they would pay off.

Put the car up on jackstands to check for any free play in the wheel bearings and didn't notice anything. It's possible it was just some build up of rubber on the tires, but I only seemed to notice the feeling when I had the right front loaded up on the left turns. Put the stock wheels back on and will drive it like this for the rainy season (assuming we get any more rain).

Nice!

Thanks for the motivational vids! ;)

No problem! I'm likely done with track days for the year. Have to install the clutch, motor mounts and get a new soft top. I'll likely replace the front wheel bearings just to be sure, and will probably look at rear wheel bearings too.

So coming back into reality and I'll more than likely be selling my MS2, BNIB. Thought I'd give yall a heads up. Just don't think I'll be able to do the install, plus the extra shit and then tune it all before I go back to school full time. Getting out of the Coast Guard is going to be a big pay cut haha.

Also have a happy meal with light weight flywheel, BNIB. I didn't need to buy that at the moment but with anticipation of the MS2 I thought it would be good but don't really need it if I get rid of the MS2.

If interested I can get all the specs before I make an actual FS post.

I don't think the MS2 would work for my NB2 but had you mentioned the clutch 2 weeks ago I would have bought it!

That's really good placement of the Go-Pro!

Yeah I really like having it on my helmet gives a much better feel of the track.
