wonka
http://dangerousminds.net/content/uploads/images/made/content/uploads/images/spocjsdfsdfsdfsdf_465_216_int.jpg Bank of Canada is pleading with Star Trek fans to stop “Spocking” its five dollar bills. Since Leonard Nimoy’s death, Canadian folks have been “Spocking” the hell out of the five dollar bill that features a portrait of Canada’s seventh prime minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Sir Wilfrid now sports, on certain bills at least, pointy ears, the signature Vulcan haircut and eyebrows and Spock’s mantra “Live long and prosper.” According to Bank of Canada it’s not illegal to do this but: “...However, there are important reasons why it should not be done. Writing on a bank note may interfere with the security features and reduces its lifespan. Markings on a note may also prevent it from being accepted in a transaction. Furthermore, the Bank of Canada feels that writing and markings on bank notes are inappropriate as they are a symbol of our country and a source of national pride.” http://dangerousminds.net/comments/bank_of_canada_urges_star_trek_fans_to_stop_spocking_their_fivers
ehsnils
These days you can pretty much order anything on demand through an app: dinner, a car service, and now sperm. You read that right. The London Sperm Bank—the largest in the U.K.—has just released an app that could modernize the process of hooking prospective parents up with the biological material they need to make it happen. The app is essentially just a mobile version of the filtered search function the London Sperm Bank offers on its website. But in doing something as simple as bringing its desktop services to mobile devices, the bank is making a play to further normalize reproductive technologies. ... https://www.technologyreview.com/s/602505/the-uks-largest-sperm-bank-is-now-an-app/

ehsnils
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Six college students are facing numerous criminal charges after a massive house party in Bethesda. Police say there was so much alcohol consumed at the party, that the air inside of the home tested positive for booze. Thumping music led police to the split-level rental home on Massachusetts Avenue. Officers say around 70 underage kids were partying inside. Trash bags and insulation were covering the windows. Beer cans and liquor bottles littered the home. The indoor ambient air registered .01 on a breathalyzer. http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2017/12/20/college-house-party-bethesda/ http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/919/520/b78.gif

ehsnils
Major dark web drug suppliers have started to voluntarily ban the synthetic opioid fentanyl because it is too dangerous, the National Crime Agency has said. They are “delisting” the high-strength painkiller, effectively classifying it alongside mass-casualty firearms and explosives as commodities that are considered too high-risk to trade. Fentanyl can be up to 100 times stronger than heroin and can easily cause accidental overdoses, particularly when mixed with heroin. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/dec/01/dark-web-dealers-voluntary-ban-deadly-fentanyl

ehsnils
world’s northernmost settlement sees first bank robbery An armed man has robbed a bank in the world’s northernmost settlement on Norway’s remote Arctic archipelago of Svalbard – but he was caught shortly afterwards, authorities have said. The heist was the first bank robbery in living memory in the territory, which is located in the Arctic Ocean, about halfway between continental Norway and the north pole. Locator “There was an armed robbery at around 10.40am [0940 GMT],” Terje Carlsen, a spokesman for the local governor, told AFP. “A man with a gun seized a sum of money,” he added. The suspect was arrested soon after in the centre of Longyearbyen, the capital. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/dec/21/svalbard-bank-robbery-first-ever-norway Just how do you think you could get away with that there? ehsnils
If people who venture into one public Chinese bathroom — in the city of Jinan — have a feeling like they’re being watched, there may be a good reason for it. Local officials in the capital of China’s Shandong province have installed a facial recognition technology system onto the bathroom’s toilet paper dispenser, an effort to cut down on people who come into the bathroom to steal toilet paper. As Russian media outlet Sputnik reports, the dispenser is able to detect if someone is a “repeat customer” in the bathroom and can restrict toilet paper usage accordingly. https://www.inquisitr.com/5221164/facial-recognition-technology-chinese-bathrooms/

Scooby Fan
Even more weirdness... BALLS ON ICE A new invention hopes to boost men’s fertility by cooling their testicles. Honest. The CoolMen gadget is attached to a belt and inventors say it should be worn for 12 to 16 hours a day for up to a month to boost men’s sperm count. To super-charge sperm production testicles need to be one to two degrees cooler than a man’s body temperature. Ballbreakers include tight clothes, hot tubs, saunas and laptops. The CoolMen gadget costs around $300 and is connected to your smartphone to monitor the situation.
