W.K.S.
Are there any other caliper replacement options besides a BBK? My stock calipers are literally rusted to hell (damn you Ohio winters!!!) and I'm looking to not only improve the look and performance of my brakes, but remove as much rust as possible from my car. The main reasons I dont want/need a BBK is that I don't plan on tracking the car so I wont need that kind of braking performance, and i'm also trying to avoid adding any unsprung weight to the car. Any info is appreciated.
car_cursed
just buy new lgt ones then
blongo804
That's really the only option if not BBK.
apexjapan
Not much of a market for same size as stock brake kits. Anybody that goes away from stock usually does for both performance reasons and for looks, and in both cases bigger is better.
xxlmellon
check brake swap.com I'm pretty sure wilwood makes a caliper that will work with the stock rotor with the addition of a bracket and new lines. i believe that this option has a much lower price point than a BBK. Hope this will lead you in the right direction.
W.K.S.
How would I protect new stock calipers from rusting? I'll definitely look into the wilwoods. Also what is the lightest BBk available?
subawang
I pretty much thought all BBK's were lighter than stock.
apexjapan
The calipers can be lighter than stock, but most big brake kits move you to a larger rotor as well, which increases the unsprung weight. And if the aluminum caliper is too light, it'll suffer from bending under heat worse than the stock brakes. You'd probably have to repaint the stock calipers to keep them from rusting. They look like pumpkins. Little rectangular pumpkins. They've been through 6 years of Ohio winters. Only recently brought to CA.
NWSPECB
If you go with something from wilwood I believe that they will be coated. If you just buy new calipers for your car from somewhere you can then get them coated to help protect them from rust. If you go that route though you probably don't need to worry too much about rust if your in Cali.
AZP Installs
Now that you are in Cali, I would get replacement calipers and call it a day. They shouldn't rust out there. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Heedz
Maybe a set of brembos from the sti? I have barely any bias and you see them go for a steal occasionally. Just my opinion since they're gonna be cheaper than a bbk except the rears I would keep stock unless you come by an amazing deal for the brackets and rotors. Only issue with Brembo fronts is that you then need rims and tires to go along with them. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Heedz
Well that's going to be the case with most bbks.

Agreed, if going BBK, you can't beat the reliability and value in a set of used brembos. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Heedz
Yeah besides brembos nothing is stock other than your lgt calipers. Can we assume less rust too since it's painted?

W.K.S.
I'm kind of leaning toward the Wilwood calipers. Does anyont know where to get them? brakeswap.com only shows Wilwood kits for acura. Thank you for reminding me about the master cylinder and booster though, I do want to do that.

Heedz
Should be I do not see why not if brembos can bolt up to the wrx and us.
AZP Installs
bump, are the wilwood kits for the wrx compatible? Yes, but you may need rotors to fit. The wildwood kit uses oem size rotors for the LGT, they are larger than Wrx rotors. So you may have rim clearance issues on a Wrx. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. The Legacy isn't an option on Wilwood's site (can someone tell me the mount description for the calipers??), and brakeswap.com doesnt carry wilwood kits for anything but acura integras.
