m sprank
Oh no, what happened to the shop Forester??? After a "few" miles of running a mildly aggressive stance the front wheel bearings gave out. This was to be anticipated, its what makes a Subaru a Subaru. So, rather than just replace... upgrade time. New knuckles (housings), new bearings, new inner and outer seals, new c-clips, new hubs and new ARP extended wheel studs. Almost ready for auto-x now. m sprank
Its not a Subaru without a dog riding shotgun (at least once). Mario never seems to mind the traffic. He just cant decide which is his favorite Subaru to ride in.
m sprank
This 2008 STi came in with no engine under the hood and no replacement engine. It had not run in almost 2 years. I left a few of the "yellow tags" in place that the owner put on items to remind him of issues when he reassembled the car. Like many projects men start with good intentions... Today, it is alive again.

None was provided and I have none. If the customer wants to pay for one/provide one it is not a problem (I would install it for free). We made it to Friday. Have a great weekend! m sprank
Another engine completed. Break in has begun and the car is ready to hand over to the customer. 2004 STi. The engine now contains a new 2013+ STi heat treated crank, H beam rods, CP pistons, King bearings, ARP studs, KillerB pick up and tray and more. Time to get back to the track for this 3 time champ. m sprank
It has been a productive week (so far). Began break in driving on this fresh engine last night. This 2006 WRX now has 2013 STi heat treated crank, CP pistons, H beam rods, King bearings, ARP 1/2" head studs, JE Proseal gaskets, air pump delete, Perrin Inlet tube, Precision turbo, 1000cc injectors, Perrin FMIC, KSTech 73mm intake, Tomei headers and up pipe, TBE, South Bend Stage 3 clutch, and a Delicious Tuning break in map. This car should be ready for customer pick up on Thursday.
m sprank
Forged CP piston. Approx 3200 miles on the engine. This is what detonation and temperature do to engine internals. Opened up the top compression ring land and warped the crown of the piston causing it to kiss the head. Porcelain on the plugs is cracked/broken. Small end of the rod bushings are "pounded flat". Leak down is "fair" at 14-15% and I have concerns the exhaust valves got too hot. Bad gas? Bad injector(s)? Bad pump? Bad fuel pressure regulator? Bad tune? m sprank
FRS FA20, run with low/no oil until it seized. If you have never heard, Subarus have a reputation for oil consumption. It can happen. Please check your oil level periodically.

m sprank
Continuing work on decreasing under hood and oil temps in the '12 STi. Some parts came back from getting hi temp ceramic coated. Time to start wrapping.
Flinkly
who's coating? tech-line or jethot? * Build Thread * 26.53 MPG - 12 month Average *
m sprank
Olympic Coatings did the work for us. The TBC is similar to tech-line. A 2011 WRX came in yesterday with low boost. Upper catalytic converter in the down pipe is coming apart restricting exhaust flow (increased back pressure). Not the first time we have seen this. Easily rectified and the car is back on the road now in stage 2 trim. We were even able to send the customer home wit a nice bag of goodies that fell out of the down pipe upon removal. m sprank
Progress made today on our 2012 STi project car. Current focus is decreasing under hood and oil temps. All the hi temp coated (and wrapped) exhaust parts are installed and the car is up and running again. Next step is "ducting" for the oil cooler. m sprank
Hope you had a great weekend. We are back to work today. Finishing up a 2015 STi now (alignment). m sprank
Ummm, who did your vinyl wrap? Because I think they missed a spot. It actually gets worse from here. Very poor work. I suspect the owner did not exactly get what they paid for. Sad.
m sprank
Working on an FRS project car today. m sprank
2016 WRX. Just completed an install of the new Whiteline lowering springs. With the addition of the wheels and tires the car has a new "attitude" and custom look. A cat back exhaust is next on the owners wish list of mods. m sprank
Another 2016 WRX. Cobb catted j-pipe and a Grimmspeed TMIC then the car is on the dyno. m sprank
This 2002 WRX had not run in over 3 years. We rebuilt the engine and turbo, serviced the transmission/diffs and got her up and running and back on the road. Smog certification was completed today. The car is now ready for pick up. Another Subaru taken off the back 40 and put back into use. Now the owner gets a second chance to enjoy the car again.
Rhitter
Progress made today on our 2012 STi project car. Current focus is decreasing under hood and oil temps. All the hi temp coated (and wrapped) exhaust parts are installed and the car is up and running again. Next step is "ducting" for the oil cooler. I have an after market header, I have a KB oil pan. Time to bling tape all of it! Any idea if it made a difference? or too soon to tell? Adding an after market oil cooler? or just going to run a hose to the OEM heat exchanger / oil cooler? How is the Legacy race car doing? My OBXT build
m sprank
It makes a difference. Still need time for full testing, but it is already helping. We have a Perrin oil cooler installed already and are in process of making a brushed stainless "duct" for it now to increase efficiency of the cooler. Be careful when "insulating" the oil pan. You dont want to keep the heat in the pan, you just want to keep the extra heat out. So, only insulate what needs it. Max (LALGT) car has been down for some time. He decided to start racing Miatas as they are far cheaper to maintain then the LGT. Currently, it needs a new engine. 35+ track events (large track) will do that.
