I have a couple of power tools that have 15A (peak) and one with 18A (peak), all with a standard plug. Wanted to be sure they didnt cause an overload. Every circuit in garage is on a 20A circuit breaker.

Hottub is on 50A panel. Think we used 8 gauge for that run.

The most of the house is wired at 12 gauge. Our wiring story follows the adage "a fool and his money are soon parted". Then again, the wiring was done when copper was cheap. If I had to do it today, the spec would be vastly different.

All of our house is in 12 gauge with the exception of the hot water heater and stove iirc.

Guessing 12 woulda worked fine for your power tools with no issue.... But overkill can't hurt

My electrician was mouthing off one day about running all the wire and it not having enough oomph for 20A. He said 8 would work better. After some experimentation, we discovered making up a 4 GFCI outlet box with 8 gauge was impossible. It was sort of possible with 10. So there are 4 "power" plugs (1 on each wall) now. A pretty cheap upgrade for a 6 pack.

I have been doing lots an lots on my house. I got this house for practically nothing but i have run into nothing but problems with it. Its a tiny place but with the deal I got on it, I should be able to sell it in a couple years and make a decent little profit on it, then move on to the next house. Here are a few things I have done to it in the past year and a half.

Replaced a bunch of rotten trim

Built a small deck:

I dont have any updated pictures with all the finish trim and paint, but at least you get an idea. Next up is a complete gut and remodel of the bathroom, then the interior will be 100% done. Then we are going to remove the old asbestos siding and put new siding up, paint it and we will be done

FWIW I run cat5 on top of 00 power cables at work almost every week and haven't noticed any issues with interference.

yeah, its an inevitability at my work that you have cat5e in the same gutter as 120/240v. even the engineers that designed it all didnt care enough to separate it. city of Phoenix is the only city in the valley that requires separation for different power types (24v and 120/240v). they also require separate comms runs as well. and dont get me started on their 17260 requirements. makes their jobs take twice as long just in the blueprints stage. only thing we really see interfering with cat5 cabling is if its inside metal conduits. thats a no-no too. i do try to use the direct bury cat5e if at all possible tho, very hard to interfere with that. lately everything is cat6 anyway, shielded and grounds nicely. kind of expensive for the high end stuff tho.

Well at the begining of the year me and my wife bought a really beat up coop apartment, being in architecture I could totally see potential in it but at the same time my hick side new the amount of work needed to be done to make it happen.

This is what I started with

Small bedroom (to be removed)

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k163/kazantip/Kvartira/IMG_0361.jpg

Bathroom (to be enlarged)

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k163/kazantip/Kvartira/IMG_0364.jpg

Living Room (to become master bedroom)

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k163/kazantip/Kvartira/IMG_0362.jpg

Kitchen to be combined with dining room

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k163/kazantip/Kvartira/IMG_0355.jpg

Larger bedroom to become kid's room

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k163/kazantip/Kvartira/IMG_0366.jpg

Then the demo started

After two days of work we got an early surprise a whole week earlier than expected, his name is Victor and he will be a subaru fan.

IMAG0248.jpg

He was born rather quickly but I can barely remember it all. Everything was just a blur.

Demo started on thursday with a buddy helping me out two of us stripped the future kids room, I was exhausted as I haven't work hard in a couple of month.

On friday morning I picked up where I left off with couple more friends helping me but my body wasn't there anymore. I got home to my wife late as I had to pick up money from my side bussines friend around 10pm, she tells me she isn't feeling to good. I said give it an hour if nothing changes we'll go to hospital she woke me up at 11pm saying its getting worse.

Luckily my parents were staying over and my dad dropped us off at the hospital. Three hours later I was a father. My dad picked me up from hospital around 5am as there no overnight visitors allowed. Was awaken at 8am to prep for the day at the hospital. So after two days of hard work barely any sleep I was a father and although kinda dazed I was happy.

Sleep has been a privilege ever since.

After his birth I realized I rather spend time with him than in the apartment (like I had a choice)

So the contractor was hired to finish the most of it

yeah i hate plaster, regular dusk masks work for like 5 mins till they are fully clogged 100+ years of dust was just sitting in that floor cavity. Had to buy couple good respirators and lots and lots of water to constantly rinse mouth lol.

Although demo was nasty its the finishing touches that drive me nuts. Like doing trim work or the tile.

you'd think the horrible nature of demo would deter anyone from remodeling, however, the sheer fun of deconstruction always pales by the time the finish work is in progress. We've remodeled our house about 5 times, each time doing less work. The last time, we found a designer & general contractor we liked and who understood exactly what we wanted. We left on vacation before they started and came home after they finished. It was the perfect way to do remodeling. :-)

We've started to entertain paying people as our time becomes more and more valuable and limited.

My current project is our mudroom.... Its a soft buffer between the house and garage (ranch style house). I gutted it down to studs. Replacing a short stairwell, sheetrock, flooring, etc... We removed a low window and put a decorative arched window in, higher up.

With the exception of the window, the entire project hasnt really moved since demo. Next weekend may be starting to replace the doors (there are three of them in this small room. Two of them have been sitting in my garage for three months. LOL

I've been "building" a removable deck around my sunken hot tub for nearly a year. The engineering challenges were too much for the expert contractor we hired, which we discovered when the hot tub motor failed as we were paying him off. His idea of easy removal was using a sawz-all. We stopped payment on the check. A year later, I've got it mostly worked out, but still finding it challenging to get everything lined up and safe.
