Stock PSI

Recommended Posts

Maybe you haven't noticed in your reading. But Subaru ECU's are finicky. I thought this was taught on day one?

It is.

Subaru ECU's, especially the 16bit versions only have a small amount of "learning" capability, in some cases significantly less than some other manufacturers units. (DSM for instance)

By the logic you've shown, it would be fine to add 3-4 gallons of e85 to an unmodified car. Is it enough to cause catastrophic failure right away? Probably not. Can it cause some very serious issues? Absolutely.

Keep in mind some people on forums such as this have absolutely no mechanical inclination whatsoever. If you tell them 16psi is safe on a MBC, they may attempt 17, then 18, then 24 and boom goes the dynamite. I'm not trying to come off as sounding condescending by any means, but please consider your audience, the entire audience before posting things like that.

OP, it's been mentioned a few times already but stock boost is ~13.5psi.

3-4 gallons of e85 would richen the mixture ..

at worst it would run shitty ..

but yes we get what your saying ,,

also the learning limits are also adjustable with the correct interface.

there are two things the ecu not able to adjust enough and physically not enough fuel getting to the engine. for fuel pump and other wise. go be able to old 16 psi boost at 6500 rpm.

Now that's thinking out of the boxer!

fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader

lol i dont get it? Ive had a few friends do this and its been about 2 years and not one problem. I did it and logged it and it was perfect. There wasnt no knock or anything. Thats why i said safely 16psi. ECU does well to maintain a good A/F ratio. But i guess not everyone is the same.

Search for JohnM on this site.

He was a HUGE proponent of manual boost controls for the first couple years on this site. Then a couple years in he made a bunch of posts about his engine grenading.

Coincidence?

That's a pre-blown-engine post. When yours pops, he will agree with you then, too.

HE blew is engine 6 years later, If it was the MBC after 6 years thats pretty good to me. You guys act like going to blow the motor in a day or two. He spun a bearing due to the lack of lubricate. nothing with the MBC.

Clearly you know what you are talking about. Why bother learning how to tune yourself? Just turn up the boost. Them newfangled computers can handle it.

To the OP, don't just put an MBC on the car and call it good. Turning up the boost without tuning is not only a great way to make suboptimal power, but a great way to do so dangerously!

Wouldn't 3-4 gallons of e85 actually lean out the mix? Since e85 has lower potential energy per unit under all but the most perfect conditions, and it takes much more of it than regular 93oct., I would assume that it would skew AFR's to the 16:1 area at least. I could be wrong. It has happened once before.

I am tuned, not just by MBC i did that for like 2 days i didnt say it was a upgrade or anything its more of a short term mod. I'm not saying stall MBC and your good to go at least take the precautions.

Good, I'm glad you're tuned. I'm also glad that things turned out well for you and you're not scouring the classifieds right now looking for a new shortblock. Seriously.

idunnoboutchu, but i would like my engine to last more than 6 years.

It's stage 1 tuned by him.....

I guess an MBC could be considered tuning. You turn the knob, like tuning an old radio!
