When was the last time you stalled(Manual)

Recommended Posts

That's what I'm asking for though -- what techniques? I've not had much luck finding it, only a few people who agree that it is a common problem. I've read a lot of the threads over on NASIOC/IWSTI on the topic. Certainly someone out there has a more academic view on the subject.

I've definitely tried quite a few things, which is why I know there are 2 ways I can avoid it -- 1 is roll reaaal slow (like stop/go traffic slow) and go into 2nd at like 2-3mph. The other is just WOT launching the car.

As was already said. Release the clutch slower and also watch how you modulate the throttle. If you let out the clutch too quick and then immediately give it some good dose of gas, there is a good chance that the car will rock back and forth.

back on topic. I stall about once a month, typically when I am in parking lot distracted by something. The car has an aftermarket clutch that doesn't like to modulate much. It's either on or off.

What really kills me is switching between I/S/S# -- you'd think it wouldn't make a huge difference, until you need to make a left turn through an intersection quickly. Oops, still in I mode.

I used to drive in I mode all the time until I tried driving in S for a while and saw no difference in fuel consumption. Car stays in S mode most of the time now.

my GT was the second manual ive owned, first was an escort that i learned on and just destroyed that thing. i had the same problem going from 1-2 when i first got the leggy. i just started easing off the clutch at that shift and all is copacetic

+1

With sport I can get into it, and get to my desired speed and be done.

I've only had the car for a few weeks, and I've stalled it 3-4 times, once on a hill infront of an ass that laid on the horn until I got started again and moved enough he could fly around me through the intersection. Very embarassing.

JBrown:

I don't know how much a tune would help. I had mine on the dyno for a custom tune the week after I bought it and I'm still trying to adjust to the lack of torque under 3k rpm's ESPECIALLY compared to the excessive torque over 3k rpm's. I have to give twice as much throttle off the line, and then ease way off before I start to spooll at 2500rpm's.

hd clutch and lwfw makes for a VERY touchy clutch and hard to learn at first. I stall here and there sometimes but mostly on steep hills if I have to stop at a light. Maybe every few months I'll stall it once. When it engages after letting it out about a 1/2", general bumper to bumper traffic and stop lights on hills in traffic can be difficult and definitely annoying. I'm SO glad I never went with a LW pulley.

If you don't stall occasionally, you're riding the the clutch.

Or you know what you are doing...

Two weeks ago, saw a gorgeous girl with an incredible body jogging on the sidewalk. Tried to move off from the light while I was distracted and embarrassed myself.

This^

Except... I was IN FIRST GEAR stopped at a light and let the clutch out. POOF! Lurched car against the brakes and stalled as she crosses the crosswalk in front of the car.

Talk about premature e...

WOOF!

This past weekend right after I had jump started the car, stalled in the right lane of a six lane divided highway. Couldn't turn the car back on because the battery was still dead.

Before that I can't remember the last time that I stalled especially in traffic.

About a month ago leaving the gas station - in front of about 10 people of course...that said I'm glad I'm not the only one that had a terrible time learning to drive the LGT...is it the AWD and drive by wire that causes it the difficulty? (before i was Infamous tuned the pedal was never consistent from a stop, used to stall out quite a bit) I'd consider myself a pro at driving a standard until I stepped into my LGT a few years ago - any friends that attempt to drive have a hard time as well.

Nope, not for me. I can drive new-to-me WRX's and STi's with no problem after a few minutes. The 5th gen LGT is tricksy.
