Sublimejoe
That looks pretty good! Thanks, I will take some photos with my actual camera one of these days.
Subadozer
Grill is blacked out and back in. Sorry for the iPhone photo, but it definitely looks so much better. I agree. I blacked out the grill on my GRP and like it a lot better than the stock gray.
Sublimejoe
Another three photos, because why not: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6109/6238639794_b13897ac64_o.jpg Manassas Battlefield http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6114/6238646314_462a9d7870_o.jpg That grill I've been talking so much about! http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6117/6238646506_5b7d872882_o.jpg O hey! Sublimejoe
Welp, it's been a while since I posted in here so here is an update. Last Saturday my car threw a CEL and then again on Sunday. Monday I took it into work (luckily I work for a car dealership group and my office as at our Subaru dealership!) and they scanned it, cylinder four misfire. Fail. After checking it out all day today it was determined that my valves need to be adjusted so that will start tomorrow. What a pain in the ass! Aside from replacing timing belt and water pump while motor is out is there anything else that would make sense? Non modification wise that is. ch0232
sorry to hear that - hope that they are able to get you one the road soon. I have read on here about the oil pickup tube having problems, (coming loose). You might have them check this out while the motor is out. Another good thing to do is give a careful look at all the gaskets, especially the head gaskets for any signs that may indicate trouble ahead. Most of the other stuff is accessible with motor in car. good luck. Sublimejoe
Ah good call, an oil pickup would bee official. You see what I did there! I'll have them check out all gaskets. I also ordered a set of ngk plugs, one step colder.

Sublimejoe
Well, I picked up my car today. $1,780 later (after my crazy discount) I now have a gates timing belt, water pump, NGK plugs (one step colder) and eight new valves. It runs as good as new now, and I am somewhat happy to have it back.
BAC5.2
Timing belt broke? Sublimejoe
Timing belt broke? Nah, I got a few check engine lights for "misfire cylinder 4" and it turns out my valves were all in need of adjustment. Since they had the motor out anyway I decided to get the timing belt and water pump changed to save on labor when I did need them done.
mwiener2
Valves being out of adjustment doesn't mean replace them.... unless they were damaged. But then why were they damaged? BAC5.2
Why did they put 1-step colder plugs in, also? Those are completely unnecessary. mwiener2
Why did they put 1-step colder plugs in, also? Those are completely unnecessary. On a stock setup, yes. On even a mildly upgraded setup running on gasoline, it is just a safety precaution and a good one at that. Sublimejoe
Valves being out of adjustment doesn't mean replace them.... unless they were damaged. But then why were they damaged? I guess they replaced the "buckets" whatever that is. On the itemized receipt I see eight lifter valves, four oil seals, six rocker covers and a ton of gaskets. mwiener2
Buckets make much more sense and they replaced a few leaky oil seals. Not sure what the rocker covers are cause we don't have rockers. BAC5.2
I disagree that they are a safety precaution. I'd say they are a safety precaution for a lazy tuner, though. The negatives outweigh the benefits for daily drivers. Even big power guys can run stock plugs without incident. It's likely they just replaced the buckets then. That's how you adjust the valves. The question is, why the clearances changed. Did the buckets wear? Were they loose from the factory? Valve's shouldn't need to be adjusted. I'm no pro or anything so takes this for what it is, Subaru recommends inspection and adjustment of valves at 105k miles. I am only at 82k miles so I guess my car is an overachiever. BAC5.2
Seems odd. Maybe they expect wear of the buckets or something. Do you know how much they were off? Sublimejoe
No, but I can find out pretty easily. The techs were saying some Subaru's don't need valve adjustment at all but 2.5 turbo models are particularly bad and mine was "the worst they have seen." LJH
I just have to say the BLQ's look great on your car. They are quite popular on Audi's and to be completely honest I really dislike them on Audi's.... With that said I would totally consider buying those for our '08 OBXT 5MT if I was not concerned about weight...they look absolutely fantastic. I am afraid our OB's are going to look similar in a couple months.....LOL Cheers, Jim
