toomanytoyz
Yup. I did it. I put the CXRacing catback on my LGT and it is now officially a drone machine! Dammit! It even had the resonator (if you'd call it that!) in the intermediate pipe... Oh but it sounds sooooooooooo nice! http://www.newenglandsubarus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif No raspyness. No tinny-ness. Just a nice bassy thrum with a couple healthy pops when you let off. Straight up killah! Just finished the install. Went nice and easy, maybe 45 minutes on my buddy's lift from start to finish. I think I'm going to get rid of the 4" tips and go dual 2" or something on each side, and lengthen them a bit to get at least even with the bumper cover cuz they are sunk in about 2". That should help with the drone and the looks... Pics to come tomorrow. I'm going to bed. http://www.newenglandsubarus.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif
toomanytoyz
Ok, here are your pics and vids! A couple sneaky shots of my sweet Perrin DP... http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/006.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/007.jpg And here's the box-inside-a-box-inside-a-box that it came in... http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/008.jpg And the goodies IN the box! http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/009.jpg And all the polished goody-ness! http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/010.jpg And... HOLY MUFFLERS, Batman! Zoinks! No WONDER they are so quiet! http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/011.jpg And installed... http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/012.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/013.jpg Yeah, it's off in the cutouts to the insides, but I knew that going in. cont'd... toomanytoyz
And here's a couple daytime pics from today... http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/015.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/016.jpg The tips hang pretty low, but that'll change tomorrow! I'm getting some nice looking dual tips that fit the cutout PERFECT installed! And here's the real deal. It sounds KILLER! Wear headphones or play through good speakers. You can't hear it at idle or most of it through laptops speakers. Through the phones though, it gives you a pretty accurate representation. I love it! http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/th_017.jpg Sorry for the background noise, I live on a busy road. Boo. And I gotta say, this was the EASIEST exhaust system I ever uninstalled/installed. I LOVE no over-the-axle pipes! We had the old exhaust off in like 10 minutes, and the new one took about 20 to install. Awesome. So there's my multimedia overload for the day. I will have some pics of the tips and maybe a new vid tomorrow.
gotsflat4love
Nice job. I just never liked the fact that they don't seem to fit the cut outs. Even if you tuck the exhaust it looks just off. But... you can't beat that deal.
snow05gtRI
that mini-resonator is probably more of a factor on the drone. make sure to add your video to the compilation thread at the top of the page!
toomanytoyz
I thought that, too. May have to change it out. And I will do that now.
jagcars26
You won't get rid of the drone,,it's a wagon. Believe me, I've tried numerous setups.
snow05gtRI
big muffler in place of the resonator?
toomanytoyz
You won't get rid of the drone,,it's a wagon. Believe me, I've tried numerous setups. So what did you end up with? I may try a loooooong resonator in the midpipe and see what happens if the tips don't tone it down some. Also might dynomat (Grace Ice Shield ) the rear of the car, couldn't hurt... StoplightAssassin
When I had my X02s I got two $3 exhaust clamps from pepboys and used them around the exhaust hanger rods to pull them in the right direction. It worked fairly well. You really needed a keen eye to see they were still misaligned.
scoobydoobie
Your license plates sure do a good job of summing up how those cans look.
toomanytoyz
Your license plates sure do a good job of summing up how those cans look. I lol'd. The plates fit better on the big ugly truck they were on before I transferred them to the leggy. I will change the plate come renewal time in July. Although, EYE am kinda big and ugly, so they do sorta still work...
toomanytoyz
Hey, so does anyone have any pics of the work shops have done to fix the fitment issues with this cbe? I took it to my shop for tips today, and he said he needed me to drop it so he could fix the fitment... I think he's going to cut the pipes mid-Y and extend them a lil and cut the hangers off the mufflers and re-do them. I told him I didn't want any crush bends. Is that what was done with yours? dftank2
i went to a shop and had them heat up the pipe and bend it, worked pretty good.
jagcars26
So what did you end up with? I may try a loooooong resonator in the midpipe and see what happens if the tips don't tone it down some. Also might dynomat (Grace Ice Shield ) the rear of the car, couldn't hurt... I'm running full catless with Prodrive cans,it drones. But when I wanna quiet it down to almost stock I throw the stock cans back on=no drone. I'm not trying to rain on your parade but I talked to a service tech at Magnaflow in California and he wasn't very optomistic about doing an aftermarket exhaust system on a wagon that doesn't drone. THe bottom line, it's all about harmonics in the wagon versus a sedan.
toomanytoyz
Bummer. Well, it's at the shop now and they are changing the tips to a much less megaphoney (?) type, so maybe getting rid of the amplifiers at the end and having the quad tips stick out past the bumper cover 1/2" will help it some... *crosses fingers* But I do not have any drone issues in my 95 Roadmaster wagon. Nor did I in my other 95 Roadie or 95 Caprice wagons and both those had HUGE 4"x24" slash-cut silly truck tips on them. I also had a 91 Custom Cruiser wagon with a big single exhaust and a dual 2.5" slash-cut tip with no drone whatsoever... Whereas I had a 95 Impala, Caprice, and 96 Fleetwood (sedans on same chassis) that I could NEVER chase the drone out of... Weird.
TRSCobra
You can also add resonated tips that may take a tiny bit of the drone away.
toomanytoyz
OK, so the tips helped... a lot... but didn't cure it completely. But at least noow it is tolerable. And they fit right. And look totally BADASS! So here's a couple shots of the in-progress adjustments. He cut the pipe right at the flange and added about an inch of pipe to the passenger side and about 3/4" to the driver's side. http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/exhausted4.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/exhausted3.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/exhausted2.jpg Getting better... http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/exhausted1.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/exhausted5.jpg And viola! http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/exhausted6.jpg OH, and did tints happen the SAME day???? http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/0407111803.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/0407111804a.jpg And with friends today... http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Scoobie/0407111805.jpg I diggit. The tips look like they were MADE for the cutouts! Dynotune at Kinetic TOMORROW!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOT!

TRSCobra
Those tips look great on the wagon! You might want to paint the pipes where they welded them though, to prevent rust next winter.
toomanytoyz
Thanks guys. And they were painted after the photos were taken. I snapped the pics beforehand so you could see the new welds and I wouldn't have to put arrows in the pics.
goneskiian
Those are great looking tips! Maybe it looks better in person but the tips look like they're sticking out a bit much. That's just my opinion.
toomanytoyz
They do stick out a bit, but it was intentional. I was trying to get them out past the bumper to reduce drone as much as possible. They do look better in person, I think. Here's a couple shots I took tonight... http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Night%20Shots/IMG_4015.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx30/toomanytoyz2/Night%20Shots/IMG_4026.jpg They are just a tad further out than I would have liked, but still look good in person. I've already gotten a few compliments on them, and no one said they were out too far. And I have some nitpicky friends... lol
goneskiian
Coolio. I love the staggered slant cut tips. I wish the the Strömung was offered with the slant cut tips. Oh well.
jagcars26
Lookin good ! Being a wagon owner I don't think they stick out too much. Getting rid of some of the drone is better then nothing.I may have to look into extending the tips on my Prodrive cans.
